Presumably hire vans are now ZOMG£££ because ZOMGPANDEMIC means everything white, cube-shaped and mobile is required for delivering 'essentials'. Before this nonsense shopping about could get you a days hire for less than £20.

Whatever it is, I need a van. I have a van. It's costing £67, but its usefulness in shifting what looks like a decent quantity of CX S2 spares is immeasurable......

Threw the truck in the workshop to be sorted out. New window reg, new sump, new engine and body mounts, major service including all belts and fluids, battery leaking, camber all out of whack too so that’s a block and tackle job on these.
Decided to get all the car park dings ironed out while its in - its not like i’m using it much right now after all so they can keep it a week or so.

You still have to maintain them properly!

Other than the window reg and the oil pan all this is just service stuff really. Big service stuff but still!

Since starting working for a Council a little further west, I have done the tech for a number of virtual planning and licensing committees. They are rather illuminating.

I get the feeling that developers propose a horrible and totally unworkable scheme (c.f. Finchley Central and High Barnet car parks), whip up a load of local anger, tie up council officers for a while and then, after the inevitable refusal, come back with a less intrusive scheme - which is probably what they wanted and what's viable in the first place - and get it approved as it's not as bad!

Not this one. The developer here keeps coming back with ever larger, more unwieldy schemes.

Aye, I know. Big miles or rough roads?

It’s got 140k km on it, mostly motorway, but it does a fair amount of off-road although nothing spectacularly gnarley. However there’s a lot of sand and high temps so i like to get things done ahead of schedule.

The sump was previously repaired after a spanner monkey span the plug threads so it was time for another when it started leaking again.

Started on clearing out my garage today, ready for painting.

First I needed to move the Corsa to a position where it was out of the way but all my other cars can be off street but not crammed together. My wife expressly said that I was not allowed to park a car on the stones out front. So I waited until she went to Aldi and now it's parked on the stones. Fits well.

Here are bits of the nearside strut tower.

Garage before: everything stored on the floor and dusty.

Pulled everything into the middle of the floor or binned stuff. There is a Corsa engine in there somewhere.

Having a break and going to sweep the floor and then start painting.

Taxed the 205 this morning so I'll take some exercise up to the garage this afternoon and give it a little run out for the first time since lockdown.

Enterprise are never the cheapest for van hire.  I always use them though as the vehicles I've had from them are always immaculate and the service has always been good.  Having been messed around by Buget Hertz and most recently Sixt (which sent me out in a van that was virtually undriveable) I've vowed to just stick with Enterprise...yes they're a bit dearer but you get what you pay for.

I imagine with the amount of places doing delivery only type services at the moment as folks have suggested there's probably been a big spike in demand for van rentals so it doesn't surprise me the price has gone up a bit.

A Scaglietti.

Thing that gets me about supercars is that they take up so much room on the road, yet have barely enough space to transport two people.

Came all the way from Buffalo in the US. Only ordered it on Friday.

Hopefully this and a regas will get the A/C on the Jag going again.  Not expecting miracles though and am fully expecting further leak fixes to be needed at the very least.  Though there is pressure in the system, albeit not much.

Here is where I got up to at close of play today.

It looks a bit shit because I have discovered that unless you spraypaint them, you'll never fill all the crevices in the surface of breeze blocks with paint. However it is functional insofar as it now reflects light coming in so I can see what I am doing as the one lightbulb doesn't do much.

Ceiling next when I have the right paint. Delivery of the shelving and my workbench is shit slow. Don't order anything from Bigdug if you are in a hurry.

When my stepdad went to get a van for their 2nd try at moving we were about 3 weeks into the 'proper' lockdown (probably the weekend cummins drove to durham whilst I felt like a criminal driving helping mum move, which was legal tenuously) they initially didnt have any. Then he spoke to the cap who sorted him out the week before on abortive move one who remembered him. Ended up in a van that came back 10 minutes before, signed the forms saying it wasn't washed or inspected, to waiver him from blame and got £40 knocked off for the privelidge. Think it still cost him £300 for the weekend though, as his sister lent it to him as his last roll of the dice before the move was cancelled and he went bankrupt as he couldn't afford the mortgage (which is why they moved, cheaper property for retirement etc)

When we dropped it back it went straight into the wash bay, I imagine then straight back out the door again.

I was more amazed that at 85mph we were doing 16mpg... never seen a modern derv so low, although we were fully loaded at the time. Even dropping the speed (once he realised the 85mph, was not a single other car on the road and the bit between oxford and bicester is boring as fuck and downhill) it was in the low 20's until we got off the motorway and back to 45mph in the b roads
