Worse than creepy Crawley.

I'm going to - *sharp intake of breath* - Gipsy Hill.

Within walking distance but safer in a van, get in and out as quickly as possible, sounds just like Crawley

..... I'd need to make sure the auto 'box isn't borked first obviously.  It still shifts fine so must be something stupid, I hope.

If it's beginning to slip, this might help keep it going for a little while - it worked on my CX before the gearbox finally gave up, so long as it was gently driven; flooring the throttle and engaging kick-down destroyed any benefit of using it.

Alternatively, if it's only the fluid that needs to be kept in reasonable order, I had reasonable results with this stuff

That is the whole point of the exercise: get in, fling two big boxes of random leftover CX S2 parts in the back, and leave really quite quickly. At sixty-seven quid for 24 hours' smoll Kangoo van rental, can't afford to hang about.

Having a laugh ain't they £67, probably cheaper in a taxi or don't they do 4 hour rentals? At that price might as well make a day of it and go car spotting and fish n chips in Whitstable

Quite likely.

Never mind Whitstable, I could end up doing a Shitely run with other people's parts....

Insured the 205 by transferring what's left of the Jag policy over.
Was going to ask the boss for a day off to collect it but he beat me to it with a case of the Mondays so it'll probably be Saturday.

When I spotted a picture @Slowsilver in the April 2020 Car magazine I was sure they were asking his views on the Maclaren 765LT v the Lamborghini Aventador S he had driven recently!

But no, he was turning his head away in disgust from the crude Marina when the Maxi is transverse engine, FWD, 5 speed,  independent rear suspension hatchback with a modern OHC engine!

I left the Bluebird parked in the sun we had a couple of weeks ago with a few tapes on the dash. Yesterday I had Now 4 on, but it didn't want to eject for some reason. And having stripped the cassette player apart... Oh, that's not straight. (it's far more deformed than the picture suggests)

Nice to have a simple fix- slightly tappety cold start/running, on the 216sorted by an oil and filter change. Used millers nanodrive ee 10w40 which is a fave of mine.

Currently voicing objections online at a Council Planning Committee meeting, against a proposal for a nightmare flats development next door.

Presumably hire vans are now ZOMG£££ because ZOMGPANDEMIC means everything white, cube-shaped and mobile is required for delivering 'essentials'. Before this nonsense shopping about could get you a days hire for less than £20.

Whatever it is, I need a van. I have a van. It's costing £67, but its usefulness in shifting what looks like a decent quantity of CX S2 spares is immeasurable......

Threw the truck in the workshop to be sorted out. New window reg, new sump, new engine and body mounts, major service including all belts and fluids, battery leaking, camber all out of whack too so that’s a block and tackle job on these.
Decided to get all the car park dings ironed out while its in - its not like i’m using it much right now after all so they can keep it a week or so.

You still have to maintain them properly!

Other than the window reg and the oil pan all this is just service stuff really. Big service stuff but still!

Since starting working for a Council a little further west, I have done the tech for a number of virtual planning and licensing committees. They are rather illuminating.

I get the feeling that developers propose a horrible and totally unworkable scheme (c.f. Finchley Central and High Barnet car parks), whip up a load of local anger, tie up council officers for a while and then, after the inevitable refusal, come back with a less intrusive scheme - which is probably what they wanted and what's viable in the first place - and get it approved as it's not as bad!

Not this one. The developer here keeps coming back with ever larger, more unwieldy schemes.

Aye, I know. Big miles or rough roads?

It’s got 140k km on it, mostly motorway, but it does a fair amount of off-road although nothing spectacularly gnarley. However there’s a lot of sand and high temps so i like to get things done ahead of schedule.

The sump was previously repaired after a spanner monkey span the plug threads so it was time for another when it started leaking again.

Started on clearing out my garage today, ready for painting.

First I needed to move the Corsa to a position where it was out of the way but all my other cars can be off street but not crammed together. My wife expressly said that I was not allowed to park a car on the stones out front. So I waited until she went to Aldi and now it's parked on the stones. Fits well.

Here are bits of the nearside strut tower.

Garage before: everything stored on the floor and dusty.

Pulled everything into the middle of the floor or binned stuff. There is a Corsa engine in there somewhere.

Having a break and going to sweep the floor and then start painting.

Taxed the 205 this morning so I'll take some exercise up to the garage this afternoon and give it a little run out for the first time since lockdown.

Enterprise are never the cheapest for van hire.  I always use them though as the vehicles I've had from them are always immaculate and the service has always been good.  Having been messed around by Buget Hertz and most recently Sixt (which sent me out in a van that was virtually undriveable) I've vowed to just stick with Enterprise...yes they're a bit dearer but you get what you pay for.

I imagine with the amount of places doing delivery only type services at the moment as folks have suggested there's probably been a big spike in demand for van rentals so it doesn't surprise me the price has gone up a bit.

A Scaglietti.

Thing that gets me about supercars is that they take up so much room on the road, yet have barely enough space to transport two people.
