I'm in Dublin, we all know they love a hatch based saloon.

But what's this? 4 Reno Influenzas in 5 minutes? That's who bought them all.

I don't think they were ever imported to the UK,but are fairly common here, they are quite attractive, especially in the higher trim levels. They are reasonably popular as taxis.791161471_MjRiMzcyOWE2MWExZWI5ZjNiYTFmZmYzM2JhMDdlZDLtl-_W4T074JUVuSuohNg2aHR0cDovL3MzLWV1LXdlc3QtMS-vcy9waG90b18xNDI0NjY1NDh8fHwxMjAweDEyMDB8fHx8fHx8fA.thumb.jpeg.c7b5e3ddaad7bd62752ee1958232fdc0.jpeg

It wouldn't be surprising if a few got to the UK,as they are made in rhd,and wouldn't be much of a risk for an Irish resident to bring with them if they moved over. They were built in Turkey. There is a saloon Mégane lV as well, but it is called a Mégane Grand Coupé rather than being given a separate model name.l wouldn't mind one myself in a few years.1419309674_OTRkZTM3ZDFkODNkY2ViOTNiZTgzMWQwOWZhMWZmMGWkF0XMqloQDKtGmvvkap3LaHR0cDovL3MzLWV1LXdlc3QtM-vcy9waG90b18xNDI1ODA0NzJ8fHwxMjAweDEyMDB8fHx8fHx8fA.thumb.jpeg.693c9f79f071ba9b9c9568ab8da8e65a.jpeg

According to HML there are 61 electric Fluences in the UK and 1 diesel.

If you had that single UK registered diesel Fleunce you could show up and win any of those rare car shows and look down your nose at anyone in Italian exotica.

I didn't realise they were that rare. I know where one lives, so I'd better pap it for the Lazy spotters thread.

The electric Fluences proved to be a bit of a turkey here, come to think of it.

talking of Italian exotica, this looks rather good in black.

No rapid charging, crap range and a small boot.

The one I know of is always parked in the same place, probably reflecting the above. Also seems to belong to someone without a driveway....(how do they charge it I wonder). They've had it a few years, it's in Faversham that has no public chargers (still - town of 30,000 odd souls)

Also you have to rent the batteries from Renault.  I had a look at the Fluence which was on eBay recently - seller said he was on the cheapest lease deal, which is £77 a month for 6K miles a year.  I bashed some numbers into my calculator and that makes it roughly equivalent to a diesel car averaging 36mpg - and that's before you've taken into account the cost of the electric to charge the thing.  With all the other limitations it has I can see absolutely no reason why anybody would want to own one.

The Renault mandatory battery lease thing is absolutely bonkers. It’s the only thing stopping me buying a Twizy.

It's amazing how many people at work tell me they'd have bought a leaf if it were battery lease, because cheaper and batteries are scary

Yeah, not so common though

I guess the fact a Twizy is now £10685 instead of £5995 suggests this is now actually the case?!

I know someone who wanted a Zoe but got a Leaf because the monthly payments on the Zoe were so high (i3 level) owing to the GFV being thrupence hapenny and a packet of broken biscuits.

I never realized that the Fluence ZE was intended for battery swapping.

If the lease cost can equate to 36mpg I'm surprised they sold any.The 1.5dci 110 eco equivalent averages 53-58 mpg and a full tank gives a range of 6-700 miles.

As much as that? Fuck me, thru pence hapenny I could believe but a pack of broken biscuits too?  ?

Hey... I have a packet of biscuits, some of them are NOT broken though, is that a deal breaker?

Cup of tea so I can dunk?  :)  Think I'd rather the tea and (dunked) biscuits than the car to be honest, I am very partial to a dunked digestive :)

At the end of the day, you choose electric because you want to save money or save the planet.  I guess it's fairly easy to work out the cost per mile if you know how many miles you are going to do and compare lease vs own vs ICE

If you want to.save the planet, buy a fucking bicycle and use pubic trainsport.

In Halfords yesterday I was looking at bicycles ( I do odd things sometimes) and they had several different versions of electric bikes - £8 - £900 though which I thought was a lot for an old upright bicycle with a battery on the back.

I borrowed the Mrs’ C5 to nip out, booted it to overtake a pensioner doing 28 in a 60. The C5 bogged down went bing bong and threw this up. I had hoped a restart might clear it but no...

Wish I’d taken the Saab now...

It's entirely this; because of the shitty lease deal Fluences are about as attractive as a dose of Ebola, whereas if Renault released the batteries from the lease deals(they are well beyond the pay back period anyway and are deep into Kerching! territory) or if they must have a further suck on the teat sell them on a pro-rata depreciation basis, then Fluences would become solid gold electroshite. There's also the issue that you would be waiting until after the heat death of the universe before Renault UK responded to to a warranty claim for a replacement battery.
