Have you checked the underside of the fuse box cover for some of those little plastic plier type things? I always forget...

There should be one of the wee tools there but looks like the previous owner kept it :D ill try with pliers

Without looking i couldnt tell you what model, whether it went while she was driving was going to be the next question with her I just got told it wouldn't start, I'm literally in the job as far as replacing the belt for her so it starts, anything from there ahhhhmmmm ooottttt I don't fancy sorting head gaskets or at worst engine replacement

Spoke to her last night and she drove it a couple of miles home after the belt had gone, Ive prepared her for the worst

££!

I’ve never spent on a taxi in my life , and don’t intent to start now.

You've got a merc in a body shop and you wont pay for a taxi, you'd rather walk for 90 mins!

Does not compute.

Swapped a few fuses over this morning and have a few things I fucked back running, but cannot get into these two surrounded by this plastic yellow thing out. As my expertise ends basically here , anyone any ideas :D I can't get a proper grip on the fuses as they're embedded in this thing and it won't pop out itself

That looks like what’s known as a Transit fuse, one which can be pulled to cut power to various circuits which would otherwise drain a battery over an extended period of time, but can be reinstated by simply pushing the yellow assembly back into the board.

It should come out as a complete unit then the fuses can be replaced independently if needed.

Edit, when Gareth arrived he said Sally at the Funeral Directors described me as a blunt Yorkshire man.

Which is a fair description except I'm a mile and a half on the Lancashire side.

I get this all the time myself. Must be our proximity to t'other side.

Well I did the car collection, it’s sleeting here at the moment so I didn’t walk. I drove down in the 2cv, picked up the Mercedes drove home and then cycled back to pick up the 2cv.

Car looks very shiny ( full machine polish and wax £225), and the nearside wing looks new ( repair and paint £325).

^^

Is that an E or S-class? Difficult to tell from this angle.

E ( which was being glued back as I arrived as the da polished had snagged it). The SEC were already out of budget when I bought this one nearly 7 years ago. I do like it which is why I’m happy to pay to keep it smart.

This morning they had a w126 s class outside having a new rear window fitted, two w123 estates in the middle of being painted and an Aston Martin vantage having a bumper painted. Inside was a Rover p5b coupe having a full repaint alongside w111 SEb coupe. They know their stuff and are booked up for two months.

I’m mean! My wallet is also empty of cash, although the moths seem ok!

Watching Some Like It Hot on Netflix.

That car chase scene at the beginning!  It's a health and safety nightmare.  Brilliantly brave.

That looks great. If I'd seen this post earlier, I would have come over and run you there in my 2CV. I took mine for a spin earlier, just to make sure it's OK. Of course, it's now sitting outside in the pouring rain :(

I got told the only thing tighter than a Scotsman was a Yorkshireman (whilst I was attempting to get a better discount). It was a proud moment :)

Thanks, I managed although I can’t say I like cycling in sleet!

My 2cv is in the barn drying. We’ve just got power back after being off three hours which was getting a tad annoying.

In 2cv repair news, I’ve fitted a new indicator relay from ecas. The old one had been sticking on until tapped. New one fine, but modern and works differently- original flashed the lights on instantly then off etc, this new one starts with the off then on.

I wear glasses to drive at night, I have forgotten to bring them with me, I'm on my way home from Pembrokeshire, progress has been slow. Fortunately I have now reached civilisation and a lit road, but probably won't be able to speed up as the cross winds are chucking the Micra hire car about there's also a lot of standing water on the roads. Just stopped for something to eat and drink, but the closest I could get to food has been an horrendously expensive sandwich at Swansea services. I should really have broken into what I am sure is a food hamper in my Christmas presents in the car.

That's exactly what I thought, I have prepared her with the thought of further damage due to lack of water flow which she has accepted

Cheers mate that's pretty much telling me what I already know about them

If this one turns out to be too costly to repair and she has her heart set on another Smart then I'd suggest going for the 84hp model. They're an absolute riot to drive as 84hp in something that weighs as much as a carrier bag can fairly shift. Plus, they have none of the stop start gubbins.

Actual FTP!

I cleaned out the carb, there was plenty of sediment in the bowl, made sure all was working, tested it at home on the drive to make sure all was well and then went for a little test drive.  Just coming off a roundabout the car just died.  Got it started again, popped the bonnet, and fuel was just coming out of every part of the carb it could.  Typically, I'd left stuff at home because I didn't think I'd need it on the short run and then had to do a partial strip and rebuild of the carb at the side of the road.  So walked home to get the stuff I needed and let Mike know what was going on.  I walked back to the car while he was sorting stuff out before heading over.  The Princess wasn't left in a dangerous spot, it had chosen its FTP point moderately well.

Mike turned up during this and helped save me traffic dodge while starting the car and checking for leaks simultaneously.  Got the car running, set off to go back home and it would try and die with any acceleration so crept it into a church car park to spin around and headed home.  The same roundabout it died on it suddenly came back to life and all systems normal.

It's now running fine again.  Absolutely no idea what was wrong, nothing was obviously amiss, but whatever it was isn't wrong any more.  For now.  I suspect the carb is simply knackered so the rebuilt one will hopefully resolve all these issues when I get hold of it.

Met up at lunchtime for a pint with an old friend and neighbour. £4.29 ! a bottle for wainwright which was the most drinkable of the offerings my next door beefeater offered.

Anyway, as he mentioned he’s selling his flat to buy a house with his girlfriend and I’m now thinking of buying it a little. He’s offered a decent discount on the current price, and it turns out the mortgage wouldn’t be totally unrealistic either.

Positives - 2bed flat with parking and 1 ( maybe two with a neighbourly arrangement) garages with power.

Negatives - no outdoor space at all, just communal shrubbery.

Cons - we could all be living in a post apocalyptic nuclear wasteland next year, in which case my armed security and steel gates could be useful where I am.
