I appear to have bought a widescreen BMW E46 sat nav head unit, for less than the cheapest small-screen Rover unit on the Bay.  I'm assuming it'll fit the 75...

Some need the eyebrow bit taken off the dash i think.

Yesterday, after a dozen years in the lock up, the orange MGB was fired up, extracted and given a quick wash.

Then it was off to her new home. I'm sure she'll like her new flatmate.

Thing was she drove better than the roadster I usually use. Her departure has though given me the incentive to get the other GT done. Even Mrs BMH agrees, so once I get some spare time I'll fire up the mig. Mind you, been saying that for the last 6 years!

Thought I'd have a look at the 75's drivers window today to see why it only went up a cm at a time. Which was an annoying trait as being of the fatter persuasion I like a breeze as I drive.

I knew it would be something to do with the anti-trap wiring, hopefully just a bad connection!

Door card off. No wires to be seen, Bugger!! Robbed one off another door I had lying around. OK where does this plug into? Christ knows! No corresponding wires in the loom (pink with green stripe).

Bugger it'll I just change the loom as well. So ripped the old one out which led to the discovery the bloody door had to come off to get the main plug out!! Any way 20 minute job was 2 hours of swearing and door balancing on top of an old army ammo box :?

End result was extremely pleasing though!!

Any tips please on getting the door cards back on. Mine both lift at the corners from time to time. One is hanging off most of the time.

The autoshite bike rover 220 is going to be in an episode of "Still game"

They contacted me looking for an old car with wind down windows in the rear and want the windows tinted for a scene which involves dogging...255aa12f5a9a5e45dd9fb0c2e31cfbeb.jpg

This morning, the Volvo made a "SPANG" noise from somewhere under my feet that I didn't like. I pulled over and looked underneath and the engine undertray seems to be sagging more than I feel is sensible. So I drove it back home and took the Mazda to work instead. Hoping there's enough light when I get home to get it up on the ramps and make sure nothing critical is broken.

Despite aborting the MoT last week due to stalling issues, I thought I'd risk putting the Rover in for a test today.  I'd cleaned up some contacts at the weekend and knocked the idle up a touch, and I made it there and back.  I was also rewarded with a clean sheet!  Bit surprised, but I won't argue.

This Astra was also in and didn't fare so well.  Needs welding.  Registered within 3 months of each other, he's definitely had the harder life.  Rear arches were wobbed up a treat too.

There's still something amiss though, and I reckon it needs a new alternator.  Fortunately this NOS one arrived in the post today.  £38 delivered which I thought was good value, and I'll have a crack at doing it this weekend.  I also bought the holy grail for R8 owners, a NOS main relay.  I found it on eBay Germany and it wasn't cheap at £25, plus I probably don't need it now but never mind.

Once that's sorted I'll probably sell it, as my Dad no longer needs a second car (he's had it for the last 3 years as a runabout) and nice though it is I think I'm done with it.  I paid £650 for it four years ago and they still seem to be worth nowt.

Edit: something to note if you're nervously checking whether your car has passed the MoT.  Use the check MoT history service as opposed to the vehicle enquiry one.  The latter can't be live as it's still showing the Rover as out of MoT, 2 hours after the test.

I like my MINI, in fact I like it so much I've bought another, fancier, one today:

That means the current ex-JJ0063 Cooper is for sale.  Will do a proper FS thread later but in short it's MOT'd until April, has new disks/pads/exhaust, but is sometimes difficult to get into reverse because MIDLAND GEARBOX.  £500 to shitters.

If I were in Trigger's shoes I'd sack off the Rover.

The Marina seems ideal for economical, regular family use.

I may be biased due to not really being into SD1s and finding Marina estates to be WAY PAST COOL.

i would concure with this,i would be keeping hold of the Ital and Marina, and letting the Rover go to pastures new.

and here is my thinkng-

Mr Trigger is going to move house, a new house means renovations, which means a small van will be a godsend to move stuff about.

now the Rover is a lovely thing, but its more expensive to tax, uses more fuel, and is worth the most.

so, sell the Rover, put monies into new house and/or putting Marina back on the road, and use and enjoy it and the Ital!

Congrats on the clean sheet Rob, it looks a tidy example :)

Thanks! I was expecting a bit of welding as the near side rear sill end looks a bit crusty. Maybe he didn't tap too hard...

20quid grinder. I wonder how long this will last?

Not long when you start cutting all that grot out.  One of my cheap grinders became rather hopeless when the lock button broke so I attached a knot brush which stayed on it for the next 3 years till it burnt out.

Finally have my Mk2 Golf on the road after a 4 year resto.

If you buy two, use one for cutting and the other for flap disc/wire brush, they will last ages.

Gives them time to cool down, its the heat that kills them.

Cheers, I’ve just helped my best mate put his mk2 8v back on the road too.

It’s unbelievable how capable these things are, for 30 year old hatchbacks.

Sat waiting to board the ferry to Dunkerque. The old BX managed 59mpg on the 200 Mile trip to Dover at a steady 70mph. Bloody fantastic

I am super Stressy McStressypants at the moment, I don't feel like I've had much opportunity to unstress since last December.  However, I've been channeling my stress into mission Get Shit Done, and it's working.  I've been desperately plugging away at Princess and Rover to get all the things done that I need Mike's help, experience, tools, and space with.  Once I move it'll be a lot harder to do certain jobs as I'll be back to working outdoors and axle stands, at least for a while.  Current status is thus:

Rover

Replace rear suspension bushes - not vital, but loads easier while I still have access to a press and a lift

Fit door cards

MoT

Strip trim, seals, and glass off spare set of doors

Princess

Weld in new light buckets

Wire up new lights (a Mike job)

Remove rear screen to repair surround (it's been waiting 6 years for me to do this)

Fit new windscreen seal

Fit new windscreen and rear screen stainless over-trims

I feel like I'm winning.  It is a strange feeling.  I'm fucking exhausted mind.
