wrenchvolt Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 I have a thing for V8 engines, although never owned a car with one. My dad had an SD1 back in the day and a bloke in our village had a pearlescent white Pontiac Firebird, the sound has just stuck with me ever since I was a kid. I just think a V8 is one of those truly awesome things. RobT 1
Guest Hooli Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 The only one I've owned was in a Lt/Wt Landy, I will own another. wrenchvolt 1
wrenchvolt Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 It's got to be done. Insane amounts of fun to be had with something like that.
richardmorris Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 Aye as Davenumbers says they mix fine. Dot4 has a higher boiling point but that's unlikely to be important with a clutch. Thanks. I’ve been LHM up until now! Tadhg Tiogar 1

Lord Sterling Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 [V8 Merc]Nice car Rob, very nice. I'm sure it'll be sold/roffled before I can muster some money together but I hope I can buy this someday and own some V8 chod for once. Anyway, in own car news, for the first time in my life, ever, I own a car that actually has working aircon. BMW got its aircon topped up today so now I can travel in comfort on the way home without having warm wind blowing at the side if my face. I've owned many cars with aircon but thier systems are too old and have run out of gas. SiC and RobT 2

fordperv Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 Phew... Today, I agreed with an old lady who is a neighbour that I'd shove her Fiesta out from its 5-year slumber spot and down the driveway which would act as a deterrent from people using her driveway to turn around in. 20180706_193850.jpg As the Fiesta had been sitting there for around 5 years (she gave up driving after a stroke) I thought I had my work cut out. So after a couple of aborted attempts (family etc...) I went down to have a look and see how 'stuck' the Fiesta was. Amazingly, it wasn't stuck at all. The handbrake was off and with bit of minor rocking the Fiesta was moving out of its spot where it had been in slumber. I wasn't expecting to move it then. The old lady had offered me the space if I needed it as changes to free parking might be coming. The council are trying to rent the spaces out at £800+ per year. Soon, the Fiesta, complete with cobwebs and the like was on the move. 20180706_194329.jpg I was manoeuvring the Fiesta in a parallel-parking way, the drivers-side window was almost stuck but I managed with a bit of persuasion to free it so I could steer the car. I got it into position and got it parked in front of the van. The old lady was very happy and so was I as I have somewhere to put my car. The Fiesta is solid, I reckon a some minor recomissioning work would easily see it back on the road.Ooohhh a stoke registered fester, by any chance does it have its dealer plates? I can't see a sticker in the window, I want to know if it was from king ford, I've got a thing for local to me registered shite What's its fate, is she looking to sell or just happy to have it as a garden ornament to look at reminiscing? richardmorris Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 It is stonkingly quick in a straight line, less so round bends, but it's a land yacht innit! Traffic was busier than I anticipated, but it didn't help I came home a different route via Hampton Court. Like a dork I'd forgotten the flower show was on...My merc is similar. It will steam away from the lights if I want faster than almost anything else if I stomp the pedal, but heaves like the queen Mary round tight bends. But it’s not a sports car- the fiat isn’t nearly as fast but handles a lot better. RobT 1
Talbot Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 An E-class merc was never meant to really handle. They're a big heavy cruiser. That said, if you ignore the initial bodyroll, they corner faster than many people are expecting!

Guest Hooli Posted July 8, 2018 Posted July 8, 2018 Thanks. I’ve been LHM up until now! It goes odd on higher numbers though. I'm not sure on it but I think Dot5 doesn't mix with lower numbers but Dot5.1 does... Any time you mix them treat it as the lower spec used, so a mix of Dot3 & Dot4 or just Dot4 is fine in a Dot3 system but might boil to easy in a Dot4 system. richardmorris 1
dollywobbler Posted July 8, 2018 Posted July 8, 2018 Dragged myself under the 2CV to drop the fuel tank again. New sender seal, a new bit of pipe to go from tank to main fuel line and bingo! No more fuel leak. Phew. It's not really what I should have been doing - I should be checking the Invacar over ahead of the roadtrip - but I'm glad it's done. catsinthewelder, GrumpiusMaximus, adw1977 and 6 others 9
