Good news re the new/old job chief! Will you get redundancy as well?

Well I’m up early can’t sleep nothing new there! As the mrs daily has basically shit itself and I’m on call today also living on the gateway to wales so the roads will be bloody chocker it’s time the civic gets some loving! First up fix the speakers in the back this involves striping the interior out as I’ve got a dodgy wire!!! :(

Then order a parcel shelf as the one I have had some 6x9s in! Does anyone want these btw?

Then the front head light has a side light bulb that has shattered inside of it so I need to remove the remnants with out removing the headlight!

Let the fun commence!

Well that went to shit! (Literally) my darling son decided to shit the bed he is 5! And not very well! So a good bit of time spent cleaning that up! The mrs is taking me to weather spoons and my hot tub is calling me!

What a lovely way to start the long weekend!

Naturally, it's going to be pissing down in about five minutes...

In other news. Had a fight with the wiring loom on the Civic. Stupid design where it has to fit inside through the core metal structure of the bootlid.

Naturally the loom had all manor of barnicles coming off it.

Tried wire, string and alsorts. Nothing could grab enough. Ended up wrapping the rat's nest in tape, jabbing it through and using screwdrivers in the holes to help feed it up. Got there in the end by pure brute force and ignorance.

Had no plan on which connector went where, but luckily they all lined up with the necessary sockets. Very satisfying when it was finished.

Next up was to move the MGB finally into the garage. Ran rough when I started and struggled to accelerate. The pump busy clicking gave away that it ran out of fuel. Once refilled it ran fine.

Unfortunately had to go away wet. Really not happy about that but needs must. Also the roof on the garage looks like it's been letting some water in irritatingly. Might have to put some sealant in the gaps. Felt really guilty and odd leaving it there, away from home.

TT arrived. No pics as cba. I guess a car that doesn't interest anyone here one iota.

Started a snagging list: Nearside front clonking, thermostat (running at ~75c indicated), drivers door adjust (dropped - probably weight of the door), paddle shifters are jammed (they all do that) and fit cruise control.

Front end doesn't feel particularly planted. I reckon either alignment, or whatever is loose in the nearside. Maybe the cheap tyres that are on the front aren't helping either.

Poking the rear spoiler button got it to extend but pressing the button again it only retracted in increments to start with. Once retracted I pushed it again to extend and tried retracting again. This time it refused to do anything. That'll teach me for stabbing random buttons!

Looking online, it seems common. Might also explain why I often see TT with extended spoilers. I just thought it was people manually extending them to look cool*. In hindsight they're probably just broken and jammed. So it appears greasing the spoiler is another thing on my to-do list.

Car goes like shit off a stick though. Sounds crap at idle but when going for it, it sounds alright and makes cute parping noises.

I ashamed to admit I'm as much into my moderns as my shite, as kiltox says throw a thread up in the moderns section...

The threads in the modern section is hilarious though! Modern cars with a shiters viewpoint! I spend more time than I'll admit reading the threads!

Sat aboard a ferry to France. Have managed to talk my daughter into a 300 mile round trip to collect the xm next Friday. How did we cope before mobile phones? Shonky the bx made an impressive 65mpg tank to tank on the run from Coventry to Newhaven.

65? How did you manage that? I used to average 48mpg in my NA BX diesel 56 in the turbo diesel.

Also, is it marking its territory? ;-)

I saw this for sale at the side of the road this morning.

It's got rust this side, half a tide line the other side and three weeks of MOT left. There's no price on the note in the window, and why anyone would want this POS is beyond me.

"Hello mate, how much do you want for the white Honda?"

These have the best roofs ever.

Never had one but with my experience of Preludes, Civics and the 216/Concerto I'm sure it'd be an absolute hoot, short zippy gearing and proper chuckabout handling. Was considering one in auto flavour but I've got my Prelude now that does everything as well and is a bit more practical. 2.0 is better for motorways too, that's the one thing small Hondas struggle with - then again a 1.6 auto is going to have to work hard to keep up with a certain Isuzu! It did though, better than expected.

ST170 collection went well until we ran out of fuel. Now waiting for breakdown to remedy the situation, it didn't have enough in it to make it the four miles from the seller's workshop to the nearest open petrol station.

Fortunately it conked out by a picnic stop so it's parked up safely. Hardly ideal though and it's pouring with rain. Been having range anxiety fun in the Leaf which we left back at the seller's place but actually it's doing fine. Petrol is more of an issue!

I would be going back and having words with the cunt for that.

I dont expect a full tank and a bouquet of flowers, but not enough to get to the pez station is taking the piss.

Interests me - get a thread up in modanz section

Bet your arsey neighbour loves you atm!!

We did make up and I actually fell out with him again yesterday. Made up again now...

Anyway here are some pictures of it for you.

It's really quite amazing what you can get for not a lot. With a private plate on, I'd imagine most people would think it was worth 5 times more than I paid.

Don’t look much but there is a big old balloon sticking out from this slight wheel v curb incident. DOH!!!! Just gonna bang a linglong on there, sure they do 20’s.

Had one of these on demo all week. The vivaro that is. 1.6 twin turbo. Proper nice drive, was a billy basic one but cruised nice and is mega refined.

Felt mega pokey just using half throttle then after that no change in performance at all. Just more revs and noise. So no use at all really in thrashing it. You go no faster than half throttle which I thought was odd.

Also the clio is going in tomo to have all them bits fitted plus a full whack cambelt and dephaser kit. It’s booked in for two solid days. That’s also gonna be cheap. DOH!! Mainly it’s because I am lazy and can’t be arsed to do anything. Apart from binge watch the walking dead. I blame you fox....

I reckon that cost about 5 grand?

Close. I paid £4.5k.

Going to need a few bits to bring it up perfect but shouldn't be too much* hopefully.

I really like the look of them TT's and would have one, they are meant to be a pretty ace drive ain't they.

Posted

Potentially!

This one feels a bit loose on the front end and not very planted. Could be connected to the knocking on the nearside and/or the cheap tyres. But then it might be normal as I've never driven before.

today was the spring refurbishment of the anti snail/slug snotty things device for our favourite things snotty things like to eat pot ....

post-21637-0-89289900-1522438987_thumb.jpg

its a simple device , it persuades them to go else where by zapping them them with 4.5 volts ..

post-21637-0-06759700-1522438958_thumb.jpg

4.5 volts you ask , its easy to generate using 3 cheapo cells and a holder , and they dont like it , but it dont pain them to the point of "freezing"  ,   9 , 12 volts will cause snotty things to "freeze" with pain and in their pain "stumble" across the barrier .

post-21637-0-76456100-1522439092_thumb.jpg

the lower voltage does not "freeze" them and they  F off else where  .....to eat your neighbours nice things !

fleet status update......

little gay jeep has, we hope*, blown a wheel bearing. its making all manner of unusual noises fron the o/s/f wheel which was marked on the mot has having a grumbling wheel bearing.

marvin the metro is currently sat under its new waterproof cover, the battery is as flat as a witches tit after been on charge apparently for several days. it seems the £8 wilko charger has not made it through the winter. the battery charger has though made it into the dustbin. a new battery charger has been purchased, though i did't think to bring the battery back home with me, cos that is where the new battery charger is.

cocopop the orange mini has had its soft tire blown back up, but its battery too is flat, its not as flat as the metro's is (that one is so flat not even the dash lights will come on) its battery is still fitted in the back of the car, in the garage, and is also no where near where the battery charger actually is.

the rover 75 (elsie rova) continues to look like a mechanised skip provide sterling service inspite of the abuse and neglect that it routinely gets. its about due a service, so i've bought the filters and oil, and a local chap is going to fit it in sometime soon.

the black mini, (rodney) is going for an mot tomorrow. it will not pass, not a hope in hell but at least with a fail list i'll know what actually needs doing. been and bled the brakes again today, this time we've had help from someone who knows what they are doing..... result? same as before. soft pedal initially followed by pedle been much firmer when pressed again. we are agreed, that there is not any air in the system, and that the brakes are indeed working just without inspiring a lot of confidence. we now wonder if the shiney new master cylinder is af fault. we didn't fit that, the previous owner did, and while it says AP Lockheed on the side, we wonder if it is really what it says it is, and if its working as it should. tomorrow will tell...... oh and the petol gauge now works. we've run a replacement wire from the back of the gauge to the sender in the bottom of the petrol tank. and now the gauge works! thats right, sweet audience, we have actually managed to bodge fix something!!!! sort of anyway....

kerry also put all of the hubcaps on, well just to see what the looked like, and just because. kerry did this cos by now i was having a sense of humour failure full kinckin' stuff about type strop cos bloody car wasn't playing nice. bloody thing.

post-18270-0-54972200-1522443690_thumb.jpg

and then finally the lexus. i broke this today. i had to go and get some more brake fluid from the local motor factors. as the jeep is shagged, i took the lexus, i pulled up, and knocked off the engine. the steering wheel which is supposed to move away from you when turning off the engine didn't move. i couldn't get the key out of the ignition, and when turning it back on, all i got was the pretty lights on the dash, no engine....

shit, arse, fuck, shit, wank, what the fuck??

so i'm now stuck in norton with a 2 ton immobile car, no phone, nothing........

5 minutes of panicing later, i realised it was still in "drive", moving the gear selector to "park" it started straight back up.

oop!!! what a dipstick...........

we took that car down to the NEC last weekend. it managed 34mpg. which i thought was bloody amazing!

I collected my new Focus this afternoon

a83514572dd3b2f02334d55c17766985.jpg

And that's where my troubles started, once I got on to the busy A140 I noticed it kept spluttering under load and when i tried to get into the A14 it really struggled and even the EML kept flickering, once home I found the breather pipe had a hole in it from where it had been rubbing on the rad, I've taped it up and so far so good, the biggest problem though is that the front end it's really bouncy, to the point that the garage assistant at the petrol station I stopped at even commented at how much it bounced.

I can't believe it passed the mot yesterday being that bad, and it was done at the Ford dealers too, pricing up new struts and springs comes too £150, would it be fair to ring the dealer back up and see if he will fix it or compensate it for?

Update on this, I rang the garage up and they said to bring it back so I did on Wednesday and they have replaced the front shocks and springs as well as repaired the breather pipe and fitted new plugs and plug leads, it now drives miles nicer.

I'm pleased with that as it's only a 12 year old cheap car he could have told me it's not covered by the warranty. I've also sold the Fiesta almost straight away to the first viewer today for a good price so I'm happy with that too!

Home now with no further major incidents, just horrible weather and a malfunctioning charger at Bridgwater services which I managed to cut my hand on prior to phoning the operator and getting a free charge out of it, so that was good.

I would be going back and having words with the cunt for that.

I dont expect a full tank and a bouquet of flowers, but not enough to get to the pez station is taking the piss.

I did try calling him for help but he'd gone home by then, fortunately we were rescued by Green Flag within about 30 mins, rather oddly given that I called Autoaid, who tipped a can of petrol in and saw us 0.3 miles (!) to the petrol station where a full tank was procured and all drama ceased.

I could make a fuss but really it would achieve nothing and I believe it was just an accident, he was a decent chap otherwise with a lovely collection of old Fords, a proper enthusiast. Luckily it ran out in a remarkably convenient spot just before joining a large, busy roundabout.

The car is ace, I'll put up something tomorrow if I get around to it, main priority is it needs about a litre of oil draining out of it as its way overfilled and a general service wouldn't go amiss but for the money and overall condition it's pretty good.

Weather was awful today. Traffic too. Took 2.5hrs to go from Bristol to Sidmouth this morning. Then the way back tonight was throwing it down and huge puddles along the M5.

Watch out on the fuel pump on the Focus. Firstly they're weak anyway (pain to change too). Secondly running out of fuel often seems to bugger them up as they run dry and overheat. If old pumps it can be what kills them off.

So if you get intermittently cutting out, then restarting when cooled, etc it could well be the pump. Took a while to discover it happening to me. My profile picture of the Scenic II with the bonnet up is where I learnt the hard way about this...
