Two hours to check a purchase is ridiculous. I'd probably go to those lengths if I was considering sinking £100k on an E-Type (can't see this happening) but a Volvo for a grand? Frankly, I'd just turn up, hand cash over and drive home. True, the last Volvo 740 I acquired broke down on the drive home, but hey, that's life.

He didn't need to as he'd taken a pack up in his best Tupperware.

Tbh if he took longer than 20 minutes I'd have gone back inside with the keys and told him to come get me when he'd done.

Go to look at a car either buy it and take it there and then or don't bother. If it needs trailering take one with you.

Well I told him it's all good (as it is) and he said it's still OK. Time will tell I suppose.

Three little words I make sure I mark clearly on every car receipt: Sold As Seen.

After all, enthusiast or not, no-one can say for sure whether he's going to rag the arse off it all the way home and then come crying because something's broken. It happened with a friend's very sound Alfa 147 2.0 - new owner blew the out clutch in the space of a day, then came back looking a full refund.

If he wants white-room condition and service, regretfully he'll have to be stumping up white-room prices...

As soon as it leaves the drive he's on his own. If he can't accept that I'd suggest he forks £400 a month out down at Volvo on renting a new one.

Yep, if he shows up, signs the new keeper slip and hands over folding it's caveat emptor, and not my problem any more. He was going over the car very thoroughly for the 2 hours. I'd have given up now but in spite of him being (on the face of it) a messer he's kept his word up to now. I have other options if he does bail. The price is agreed and I'm not moving on that.

Speaking of which I've not got the Prelude's V5 yet...

If he does turn up, PLEASE take two hours inspecting the money that he brings. Like check every note and pick as many faults as you can with any notes that arnt perfect.

A pal had this recently with an escort cabriolet he sold, to which his reply was its a 30 year old car that was running perfectly when you left, he managed to get out of the guy that he was doing 3 figure speeds when something broke

The Prime Minister's motorcade keeps passing my office. Why they have to take a route through Ealing is a mystery - it's not exactly a clear run here.

My Citroen mechanic has just called with news of a ‘56 traction normale possibly for sale ( owner testing water after not driving it for seven years). Arse biscuits ( to quote Tim Moore) just transferred money into the isa 30mins ago to take up this year’s allowance.

Not much news on the Mercedes front-absolutely no play at all in any suspension or steering joint or Bush, but still making an ominous groaning noise. Lee is apparently ringing round various places for prices. He says GSF will order in higher quality parts if requested. Eg lemforder which he says are good.

Have you seen the day of the jackal? Just a thought!

You've obviously tried paying cash into a Bulgarian bank before.......

Every note is fully inspected, and rejected for the slightest issue

Saved this from a skip a few weeks ago, a massive Dexion index rack come shelf. I'm now facing the invidious position of wondering what to put in the index boxes.

You forgot the £19,000 final payment!

To many including my eldest son that is cheap motoring as the final payment will never be in the equation....£5k down and £299 pcm is cheap.

Kids heh

Bugger about Earlpart.   One of the few suppliers who had anything for the Cowley.

On the more pleasant side of my motoring week I now have full house MoTs on all the fleet except the Fiesta which will probably have to go soon.   Nice to have a spare car but I keep wishing it was something else.

Only work needed on any of them was a rear wheel cylinder on the T25.   Yes, yes, I do MoT stuff that is exempt but my man charges £40 on the old stuff and I get the benefit of his wisdom and the chance to walk around underneath in the pit - money well spent in my book.

1965.  289.  Proper colour.

No final payment and you don't need another car to do the rest of your 12000 miles a year in.

Some might say if you are sticking 5 bar on a credit card as a down payment on a Mustang the 15mpg thirst might be killer.

6000 miles pa limits the fuel damage a bit, though!

Or

Old Mustang - appreciation

New Mustang - depreciation

The better mpg from the new one will certainly be more than offset by the fact it is losing hundreds every week

Plus the small matter of another 18K or give-it-back!

The new Mustang is lovely though. Saw a French blue one in Las Vegas and that, the new Corvette, and the Dodge Durango were the only new motors that caught my eye.

Not as much as a purple Plymouth Barracuda though. That's the sort of thing that can make a man buy Santa Pod tickets
