Over 450 miles covered in the 2CV since Thursday. Starting to feel a bit knackered now. 2CV still fine.

especially as Aldi sell it in about 27* different colours

*may be an exageration but not by much!

To colour match Mondeo bumpers.

Looks like the one Marty McFly got at the end of BTTF

That was my first thought too!

New wheels for me too. Remarkably similar to the old ones but silverer and less corroded.

VW Taros keep popping into my head for some reason.

When was the last time you saw one. If you've ever seen one?

Piss.

Just pulled out of my gateway onto the road this morning in the P4 and the bastard stopped dead. My passenger helped me get a hernia pushing the lardy lump onto the verge and we made the journey to catch his flight in another vehicle. This is all it was.

I always soldier all my electricals as I hate those blue plastic crimp on terminals, but I've read that soldered joints can fracture and now one has. Mind you, I've been making joints like this since I were a boy and this is the first to go. What do you young 'uns say?

Strip the wire and wrap it round under the nut always works for me.

Or jam it in one of the other connectors, simples.

Who needs crimps or solder?

I'm 71, the wire in question looks about the same age.

Met two lovely people who have recently had their low mileage '75 Princess resprayed and needed a few parts for it.  Luckily, they're local and all the bits they needed I didn't.  They also brought their ancient german shepherd who was the softest dog and I wanted to steal her.

It's a very early car and, like others that have appeared, also in orangey-red (Flamenco) with a blue (vinyl) interior.  Should be lovely when it's finished.

^^

My brother had an early 1800 in that colour. The oil light came on and the engine rattled a bit but he drove around for five months like that until we put a replacement in.No power steering meant herculean effort to park but in fast bends it felt really secure.

Both my vans did 250 miles in convoy with no problems, the T25 was being driven my our lasses mate who usually drives brand new motors, he seemed pleased enough with it but the £35 of juice I put in only just managed to get us there, so that's probably about 17mpg on a steady 50-60mph run. The much bigger/heavier Talbot did about 26mpg.

Conclusions:

Four people and two whippets cannot sit around and play cards in the back of the Talbot in any comfort, despite it claiming to be 4 berth. There's no space and the dogs won't listen to the rules.

The T25 is even worse on fuel than I recall.

I can just fit diagonally laid across the floor in the T25, but I can't actually sleep cos the floor is a lot more lumpy than I recall, even after 7 pints.

Our lass was happy enough to sleep on top of the engine behind the back seats, with just two double quilts and two dogs for company.

I'm sticking to my guns and not going away with anyone else unless they've got their own bloody van or a tent or somert, it was a fuckin nightmare really.

I see no support/strain relief on that cable near the connector. Likely to have work-hardened over time, eventually fracturing and snapped off.

No no, its only 61, no age for a wire.

When I tidied up the car for regular use the wiring was in good condition, far betterer than you get on a Zafira's heater switch. Anything older than mid 50's has rubber covered stuff and it needs replacing. The good news is there's usually not much of it. I have a '33 Morris Commercial which needed rewiring but it boasts an ingenious light switch which controls all functions via long long rod keeping all that nasty electricity out of harm's way under the bonnet.

Sadly I've polluted this arrangement by adding indicators as these days waggling your hand up and down out of the window means 'wanker' and not 'I intend to turn left.'

This turned up at the end of our road last week one night. My neighbours and I had no idea who's or where it came from.

During my breakfast this morning I thought I'd check it's MOT and Tax status.

Oooh ok! I've never seen that before. Phoned the police up and reported it. 15p to call 101. Flipping swizz having to pay for the police to do their job. Gone now so must have been taken away and no doubt fingerprinted.

Took the LS to work today to give it a quick once over during brake...

post-19988-0-11959000-1502771106_thumb.jpg

Everything was fine enough, air was down a little on 3 of the tyres but other than that fine enough. The alloys are more corroded than I remember, giving me a good excuse to get a set of LS/SC430 alloys when funds allow. :)

That is a bloody racket. Next time Crimestoppers has(or used to have) an online thing for dobbing folk in with for free.

Company Aldi collected this morning, and it's replacement delivered. A Citroen Cactus, with the well thought of* 1.6 hdi engine, and equally critically acclaimed* robotic automatic gearbox. Win.

From new those 1.6HDis are fine. You'll get great economy and they can shift remarkably well for the economy they give.

Robotic gearbox, you're on your own though.

Probably on the hard shoulder waiting for the `AA.

Get it properly warmed through each trip and stick to the servicing intervals and the DV6 HDis are fine. I managed the former but not the latter with mine and it eventually shat itself.

Be better than me.

Had similar except they dumped it in my allocated parking space! 64 plate Citroen C4.

Bare in mind DSG boxes are effectively robo autos and they're (apart from the early ones) proving reasonably robust as long as its serviced to the book. Biggest problem with the robo autos seem to be once they start wearing and the computer isn't able to take the wear into account. Often a case of a diagnostic session can fix it. Some of the earlier robo autos have problems due to crappy actuators, etc - thinking Corsas/Clios/etc here.

Just been offered a Mini for £1200. Its on a H plate, not been used in 7 years but dry stored (barn). Only seen a few photos but its all there and running. Does the price seem fair? Don't really want it but if i could mot it and make a few quid i might be.
