Pre-7am car shenanigans this morning. The Camry has a sticky front brake caliper, little surprise after itâ€™s 3+ years of being laid-up. Rather than mess around with getting it freed-up or a repair kit fitted I thought Iâ€™d get a new one, but two are listed with the changeover being close to when mine was built.

At 6.30am I was removing a wheel to work out which one Iâ€™d got, luckily itâ€™s the cheaper of the two. Amazon were the only place where I could find a Blueprint caliper at sensible price, so now payday has come around thatâ€™s been ordered. Signing up to Blueprint Live has helped in checking the fitment of parts.

Itâ€™s a new item and doesnâ€™t appear to need the old one exchanging, so that gives me a spare for possible repair in the future.

A bit frustrating that I canâ€™t use the Camry until thatâ€™s sorted (last time I did only 10 miles and the brake on that corner got pretty hot and smelt grim), but as compensation I used the 1200 for the work commute. It was utterly charming on the country roads, genuinely brought a smile to my face.

Nautilus are still about! I think most car horn kits have relay etc included - you need the relay for the horn to go off as soon as you press the button, which is an MOT item IIRC.

That's not what the relay is for.

It's needed to reduce the amount of current travelling via the horn switch & associated wiring, which often causes a voltage drop & makes the normal horn crapper than it should be.

Remember to fuse your new live feed to the relay as near the battery as possible.

as compensation I used the 1200 for the work commute. It was utterly charming on the country roads, genuinely brought a smile to my face.

I'm very jealous that you can do this.

For me to jump into anything other than my Avensis needs mental preperation and quite a lot of bottle. I was 90% confident with the Sierra until it just decided not to start over the weekend, stranding me at a Kosovan car wash. I guess that's the difference between say a 10 mile commute and 160 miles (!)

I'll see how I feel on Friday. If all is going well, I'll take it.

Wish me luck - both in making the journey, and finding employment after the next breakdown!

Taken advantage of the nice weather to do another bsi reset on the c5. Seems to have cured it's aircon/antipollution warning gremlin for now.

Until it decides to throw something else my way, that is!

I wish i could bring my Dolomite to work more often when it's nice as it's only a 20 mile round trip but the bastard shitehawks here leave everything in the car park looking like it's been white washed, like this Mondeo the other day, the Nissan Juke behind was just as bad.

I went to install the horn just now, well, to look at doing so - I can't even find the old horn (?). There's nothing that resembles one in the engine bay, only thing I think it could have been was a funny translucent plastic cylinder thing down on the bottom on the nearside. The engine bay fuse box has a couple of spare slots because no ABS, and the battery is conveniently placed towards the front of the car.

The horns and compressor need some sort of mounting bracket too, and I can't work out anywhere I'd be able to fit one. Plenty of space inside the front bumper to fit them, but nothing to bolt to...

I might lob it in the car and bring it to Shitefest, something to play with if we're bored.

I was gonna say every car horn I've ever seen is tucked up under the front bumper, easily get-atable with that corner jacked up though.

I imagine the bubblecar museum owner will have a fit if she sees us jack a car up though...

Aye, even though they're a car museum... Probably have to farm it out to Old Man then (and he's in Colorado atm so that won't be for a while).

I must have had the horn placement of Old Man's old 190E in my head subconsciously when I was thinking of installation - on that it's just a piezoelectric circle one in front of the radiator and behind the grill, piece of piss to get to.

I thought the Rover had one the same to the right of the bonnet catch, but it didn't. No idea where I got that idea.

I went to look at a Z3 for swapsies with the Caddilac . Both of us where a bit meh about each others cars he thought the Cadillac was a diesel. The Z3 was a bit rough but the hood was good and it had the 16v engine so not totally dismal. Needs a bit of tidying though and not sure I can be bothered.

On the way back I spotted this Focus. I think it's been there a while.

When I was putting the car back in the garage the old boy who has a garage two down and has a 2.8i capri was putting it in the garage. He had it in at my mates getting new arches in it last week and was asking about my Cortina. He was saying "I think it's nearly time to to move it onto someone younger who can do the work". I think that may have been a hint but he knows their value and it'll be too rich for me. I also had a good look at it when it was getting the arches done and while it's pretty solid there's definitely some premium ford grot at working away in parts.

The car's a bit of a local legend he's had it for at least 20 years.

Have two of them and wire in series. More prosaically depending on how much current it draws you could get a DC-DC converter to drive it.

We 'accidentally forgot' and wired in one of those along with some conchshell ones when converting a 50s GMC to 12v.

Bastard loud they were. Until they died.
