Either replacing the head gasket, or swapping the engine for another D7F. When I think about it an engine swap seems like an awful lot of work. Anyone who has swapped a Clio engine and has the experience to just do it, rather than my staring at it in a mild state of confusion, would probably be able to help me get this thing running again in a weekend!

I'm on a car fixing roll, well , for me anyway.

Replaced the alternator on the Arosa, apparently if you've got a big enough hammer there's no need to drop the engine a bit for bolt to clear chassis rail. They don't mention that on ClubLupo!

Cleaned the V70, chuffed to find no damage or evidence of previous repair, always a bonus the first time you clean a new car.

 

Just need to replace a headlamp bulb on both Gaylander and Fiat 500, both probably need the bumper,grille and roof removing first.

Also adjust the handbrake on the Gaylander, in theory just remove the stereo controls in the back of the console and tweak a nut- we'll see.

I took the Metro out for a run since its nice weather. Did about 120km in it no problems. The suspension is weird - it has definitely sunk a little over winter, but somehow rides a lot better for it now. 

 

It still guffs a wee bit of coolant out of the header cap.....just enough to leave a damp puddle on the top of the tank when I checked it once I got back home -, the level hasnt dropped by a noticeable amount. I think I will have to bite the bullet and get a new header tank for it as the cap doesnt tighten very well. 

Obviously the proper tanks are NLA, but apparently an injection Mini tank will do the job. I just hope that once its sealed it doesnt start over-pressuring again. I might get one of those cheapo sniff-test kits from ebay just in case.

Mirror arrived for the Rover yesterday, it's easier to change the whole mirror than just the glass. Pop off the inside trim, unplug wiring, and three screws, that's it. I now have a functioning passenger wing mirror!

Put the BGD away while it's still clean and had fun (briefly) burbling around in MX5 with roof down.... had to get home for racing! Typical that the first really nice, warm day is the day I have to be inside. I've waited all winter for the racing to start again, not sodding missing it!

I had a few hours on the cortina today. One of the chassis legs is horribly mangled and it looked worse once I'd cleaned all the debris out of it. I made up a section to go over it out of box but when I tacked it on today highlights how badly deformed the chassis rail is to the point I'm not sure I can weld this new section in. I just went home.

 

The gear linkage on the Panda is broken. The bush at the end of the linkage has come out of the metal bracket it's held in. The bush itself was still attached to ball on the back of the gearbox and I couldn't get it come off. Over 5 visits I've tried various methods but its in a totally shite position. I eventually managed to get it off today with a super long crow bar. I have a plan to fix it (it involves cable ties) but I not can't get the bush back into the bracket. I think I'll have to take the wheel and arch liner out and attach it from that end. Replacing the whole thing is not only pretty expensive it looks like a ball ache so I want to make it work. Mot is up in June so once I fix this I may retest it and make another attempt at selling it.

 

Cadillac, is now on the road. It's really nice to drive and pretty quick.  The speedo goes up to 260mph. Not sure that's achievable. 

I've used it for my commute 3-4 times and its very comfy and handles nice although I do miss the iPhone and DAB in my Juke on the daily slog. 

It's not shown up any real issue an has behaved well other than the alarm going off for no reason now and again although sometimes on the motorway you get that feeling you;ve been hit by a gust of wind but when you look at the tree's they're not moving.  That could point to something wayward in the suspensions. MPG's are course shite. I recon it's getting 20mpg on my commute.

I tried to find one of these cheat devices that tricks the system into thinking the airbag is okay but can't find one for the model. The other option is the airbag ecu of which there are loads on eBay use for about 60 quid.

I think I need to get it plugged into a decent diagnostics machine as my diddy bluetooth reader isn't really giving any useful information.

Someone was asking about the value of small brown Japanese saloons, possibly FOAD with his 120.  I only mention this because a small brown Japanese saloon popped up, allbeit it a 140, which might help.  Tiger print seat covers and rusty chrome starmags may increase or decrease the value, depending on current trends.

Does anyone fancy going to Le Mans for the 24hr in June. My mate was supposed to be coming, but has now sold his Chevy. So we have one spare campsite pass for Chateau du Houx. (It is a quiet little site right next to Houx and a short walk to the Start line / village) What you get is a space big enough for a car and caravan/tent. There is no limit to the amount of people you can cram into the car but a mini bus would be frowned upon. This site sold out instantly as usual and there is a good chance you could get an electric hook up. I will be there from the Sunday before the race until the Monday after so could save you a spot if you are coming late. I am after £150 for the ticket which believe me is cheap for a campsite that is even remotely near the circuit. You will need entrance tickets (Which you can buy on the gate or I can order for you 82 euro for the whole race) and to sort your own ferry on top.

I NEED to do this sometime. No idea what I'm doing in June at the moment.

I used a slightly different emulator from this seller on my e39 a couple of years ago with success. I had to delete the code with a scanner and it came back once a week later then stayed off. I think you need a scanner, not a code reader.

Bulb needed replaced on the rev counter. How hard can that be. Tried to plunk bulb holder out with a screwdriver as it was too tight to get fingers in. Shorted something out, lots of sparks. Now still need to fix bulb and rev counter and oil pressure gauge not working now.

Seriously, not done the head on a Clio/Twingo but done a few others. IIRC the Clio is just tedious with having to remove lots of bits, there's not anything especially tricky about it. You also start to get to a "how far do I go" situation with water pump, cambelt etc.

Prepping for the Capri bodyshell to come home, I've bought one of these http://www.tigersheds.com/product/the-malayan-garage-44mm-log-cabin/ to store it in.

 

Looks nice and should keep the car in good dry condition once it's all been sorted too.

I'm going to sit it on top of one single brick course, bolted down into the bricks and concrete base just to keep the wood off the ground, should stop any future rot issues.

The speedo on my STS was the same.  It used the same markings for mph and km/h, all it did when you pressed the button for km/h was to move the needle round the dial quicker.

That's where I'm at. Cambelt and water pump for sure, it's done 127,000km. The inlet manifold studs are being annoying. It's getting there a little bit of a time, though.

 

It's lovely underneath. I'll sort out a new foglight as the red paint has vanished from this one.

Well the Wuvvum fleet is going just GR9.  The Mondeo is stuck in limp mode, the Rover of Doom is running OK but the tuning box appears to have died, the Picasso now has a BFO hole in the driver's sill where I made the mistake of poking at a bubble in the underseal with a screwdriver, the DAF has two smaller holes in the sills, the Innocenti's headlight glass has broken again (and it has at least one knackered engine mount), the CX's nearside headlight is corroded tae feck, the 218 still has major cooling system issues, the 121 is still languishing in the corner of the car park after the brief flash of mojo I had to get it back on the road was dashed when the new exhaust section I bought it turned out to be wrong (and the right ones don't appear to be available), and the Spacy has leaked all its oil out and both the original and the spare exhausts are blowing badly from the down pipes (and I'm not sure there's enough metal left to weld them up).  The Trafic's gear change has gone all floppy again so the bush has either come out or fallen to bits.  Oh, and my lawnmower died on Saturday after almost 9 years of loyal service - I think the motor's burned out (not surprising given the amount of dead grass in the windings...).  I bought another mower this afternoon, petrol powered this time, so it's a lot heavier and it scares the cat but it has a wider cut and there's no danger of me mowing through the cable like a twat.

 

On a more positive note, the Toyota is continuing to give boringly reliable service - it's even stopped flattening its battery every few days since I fitted a fancy RAC one.  I treated it to a jet wash today to get the winter muck off it.  That's about the most successful car-related thing I managed to do this weekend.

Don't forget a damp proof membrane between the bricks and wood to keep the wood in as good a condition as possible for as long as possible.

iirc roland garos should be white half leather with grey inserts with red & green stipes for a 205 and green inserts with red & grey stripes for 106

Picked my Stepway up on Saturday!  Will do a bit on Modern thread when I get time. Nearly 200 miles done so far and am getting used to it. All rather similar to my 2002 Clio, but that is fine by me as mine has been a great car. I did get a bit excited with the spec, but the last car has done me for 14 years, and I have had the 2cv since 1994, so why not get what I want!
