Auto leccy man visited last night. We're up and running again...I missed an earth on the fuel pump circuit.

He's was really nice and very good, so if someone needs contacts for a guy in based in Lenzie, Kirky area let me know.

The clutch bites high but never slips, the rev limiter is just practice to know you can't use full throttle all the time!

To be fair, I also have a video of Chris driving it far harder than I did! He also proved that the clutch is not slipping...

Can't say that strikes me as an improvement. I think eye shadow looks better on human ladies.

I put the mx5 in for mot on thursday morning, the rules on catalysts and imports are as clear as mud so I took a chance but the man from delmonte was not going for it

I'm not planning on spending good money on buying a new one so posted a wanted ad on a couple of forums and found a very helpful chap in glasgow who will lend me his for a retest.

otherwise a pretty good result for the 24 year old mazda

I took the 250k BMW 530d to Scotland today on an errand, largely to see if it is still fit for a run to Germany in May. It's going, despite lying about its drinking habits. Dash said 53.3mpg, reality was 45.5mpg over 306 miles. It'll do.

Saw a lot of TVRs on the A69 today, anything to do with Horseless Carrige at Hexham? Good to see them out and about.

In an unexpected development the guy I bought my 1989 Mercedes S class from is interested in buying it back now it's a goer. When I got it it had been off the road for 8 years and he was on crutches and unable to work on it, now he is the Coranary Care Unit where my ex is the Sister. I can't imagine how my car came up in conversation between them!

Is it the one in your sig? A H plate? It shouldn't require a cat to pass the MOT no matter what end of the globe it came from.

Chuck some of this stuff in the tank for the emissions if there is any doubt:

Not a bad result at all really.

Quick question, what brake pads would you recommend for the front, it doesn't currently have a great deal of feel to the pedal and they are not very confidence inspiring.

I really should change that pic, the red one is now owned by Tickman, I replaced it with this 1993 1.8 model

which apparently now needs a catalyst since they changed the rules :(

I'll fling a bottle of that stuff in to make sure :)

If I remember correctly, your current brake pads are cheap motorfactor specials that have taken two hours of abuse at Knockhill, they will be well in need of replacement. I currently use Brembo pads from europarts, they perform well and have lasted two trackdays and are approx half worn. They come with all of the springs and clips included which usually cost extra, good value at around £30 front, £25 rear.

Make sure that you order for a 1.8 though, I upgraded the brakes from the smaller 1.6 set.

I have used ebc yellowstuff and axxis ultimates in the past which are both very good on track but were twice the cost of the brembos and didn't last very long either.

I think it was may '93 that Cats came in, but that is dregged from the bottom of my memory so don't trust it.

Import? If so, it was later before they needed cats. Can't remember the year that then required them.

It used to be 1995 for imports but they seem to have changed the rules recently, I questioned the tester and he checked his manual, I didn't want to argue too much as it's a good local garage that I use regularly.

Bought this.

Not really sure why. It goes very well and has a good bit of mot but bugger all history.

Anyone in need of a cheap low mileage auto?

So, not needing any more cars or projects, nor having the inclination to take any more on just now, I've taken ownership of a Citroen Picarsole in a beige hue of JRG.

It's the 1.6 hdi and runs badly, repair or bridge the verdict awaits.......

Had a look at the Picarsole today, which has the 1.6 HDi engine of doom. Fault codes present for each injector but that was where the dumbo AA bod disconnected them to see if the poor running could be attributed to a particular cylinder.

Turning the engine by hand resulted in an audible click, looking at the exhaust cam it would stop and then jump around when the click was heard (valve contact). Took the cam carrier off, looks like the tensioner has borked, allowing the chain to slacken and cam timing to skip.

You can see where the timing marks have ended up and where they are supposed to be. The chain is slack and the tensioner appears incomplete.

So, the question is will the parts bill subject this fine* specimen to the bridge?

The 156 is resting this weekend because it has been thrashed mercilessly by Wobbler.

On a little bit of an after work drive and and I came across a stricken fiesta, driver has no phone credit. Called his parents and breakdown for him. I've been sitting with him while he waits because I know what it's like to sit in a dead car waiting for help alone. Only two or three cars have passed and none have even slowed down. Scary to think how you could end up stuck in the middle of nowhere all night.
