drum Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Round lights were the poverty pack on transits of that era. Virtually none have survivedThat escort survived till December 1990 though!I had it from '86 to early '89. 1.3 popular plus with a third gear that screamed at you.Travelled up and down to a Reading in it a few times though, over 500 miles each way. I once got back to the car park in Reading to an empty space. It was found by the police later that night on the other side of town, none the worse for wear. Looked like someone couldn't be bothered with the bus so jumped in the easiest car to rob of all time. I took the rotor arm off every morning after that.
Vince70 Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Today I've had two new Toyo Proxy tyres fitted to the E36 and the garage told me the front pads are getting low but I've already got a new set of disks and pads sitting on top of the wardrobe waiting to go on once the weather improves. Also I ordered a new camshaft sensor today for the car as I'm getting an error code on my cheap code reader and I've also got to paint the inside of the new wing with some red lead plus schutz before giving it a coat of black eggshell spray which I got free the other week before I fit it on the motor not that anyone would notice the one small rust bubble which is smaller than a quarter of my little fingernail on the original wing.Hopefully then I think the car is then back to as new again till I find something else to do on it. Also I had an all day appointment yesterday at the hospital which was about a 90 mile round trip and seeing I had a dodgy tyre I was given the keys to my fathers 2005 A class Merc and have to say I was more than impressed with it and it has buttons on the steering wheel and a stereo plus heater I couldn't work out. I hope by driving a modern doesn't make me sell my Chod collection and come over all lease hire. Bear 1
andy18s Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 I imagine a 55 plate Merc is vastly different to 1 you'd get on a pcp....

Noel Tidybeard Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 If you've got normal mirrors you could stick heating pads on the back of the glass if its practical. These would do: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-Universal-Motorcycle-Motorbike-Handlebar-Warm-Heated-Grip-Kit-Pads-ZY-/131992733079?hash=item1ebb614597:g:fMgAAOSwcUBYHAD4 stick these to your washer bottle for heated washers
vulgalour Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 picture of R8 Just been offered this cheap, 1.6 auto with possible hgf/water leak. Should I bother taking it? If cheap, yes. I advise caution. I bought mine with a possible hgf/water leak and initially it did only have a water leak, which then became OMGHGF. So... could get pricey. Remember these are still worth fuck all too. Make sure you don't A-frame it with a HAPPYJOYWAGON in the rain. The Moog, DodgyBastard, beko1987 and 4 others 7

alcyonecorporation Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Parkers which is a good guide for real world fuel consumption reckons 30MPG average for an automatic Omega 2.5TD estate. Jesus fuck, the petrol ex SVM split arse plated 960 24v does 27 mpg in mythical 'long run' mode.
beko1987 Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 My 2.2 auto goona is saying it's doing 37.something,and that's with a goosed thermostat a d possibly needing an oil change... I'd look for fuel leaks! Can you spend an afternoon tracing the pipe work and hoping it's blatent?
Chris2cv Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Yesterday my brother bought a new motorbike. He had been saving for months to replace his knackered one and had picked one with the best economy to try to save, as cash is always tight. He picked it up at 5pm, drove over to show me, on his way home. We chatted for about half an hour, then he headed home, stopping at waitrose for some bread. He emerged 3 minutes later (7:15pm) to find some bastard had stolen it! Apparently cameras caught them doing it, but wearing helmets. Several people saw it going up and down the road without a number plate. He was then stuck at Waitrose and has now lost his work transport as he traded the old one in. He will presumably eventually get an insurance payout, but has to pay £600 excess and is now in quite a hole. I have lent him the Clio, as I have the stepway coming imminently. We then spent several hours searching the area, as it is probably kids and dumped somewhere when it ran out of fuel. Sadly it is probably burned by now or on the local camp site, where no laws apply. Really winds me up how we all have to work so hard to get things, but scum can just take them and leave us with nothing. Surely 2 and a quarter hours is the shortest ownership of a motorbike?
alcyonecorporation Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 2 and a quarter hours is the shortest ownership of a motorbike? Mate of mine bought a second hand Transalp and wrote it off on a diesel spill 5 minutes after picking it up. What a shit situation, otherwise. Sorry to hear it. Chris2cv 1
twosmoke300 Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 DW-,I seem to remember those beemer diesels were never very good on fuel but very refined and powerful for their time - can't have it all ways I don't suppose
DodgeRover Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Finally managed to do a brim to brim calculation on the Omega. 32mpg. That's rubbish! I'm pretty sure there's still a fuel leak, possibly on the return line near the tank. I think I need to get that sorted. Computer reckons 39mpg.I used to average 18mpg from the V6 running about if that makes you feel better, the petrol computer lies as well. dollywobbler 1
Bren Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Our vectra will do 40 on a run but round the doors it's high 20's. Not sure it's economical enough to justify having over a petrol.

Chris2cv Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Sorry to hear about your bro's woes. Was it locked to an immovable object? Shopping in Waitrose? Mibbie that's why the cash is always tight? He goes in Waitrose half a mile from his house regularly, and buys all the bargains at the end of the day (they close at 8pm) as they are much cheaper than the nearby Tesco! I didn't believe him, but have seen it myself when he comes out with a big basket full of fruit for 50p ! Unfortunately, that loaf of bread ended up a lot dearer! He did say that the staff were very helpful and checked CCTV etc, , the manager even gave him a 4 pack of beer as he "looked like he needed it"! BorniteIdentity, Eddie Honda, oldcars and 5 others 8

I think I need to get that sorted. Computer reckons 39mpg. On a run that involves no braking, and only dual carriageway or motorway, and the cruise control set at either 70 mph or 50 mph (road works) I achieve 31 MPG. in a petrol 3.2 V6 ohmegawd. At one point on Monday I managed to get the trip distance plus the range to add up to 520 miles, Unfortunately as soon as you add in the warm up cycle, some roundabouts, some traffic lights, a little stop start jam, acceleration from rest, it struggles above 26 MPG. which is about 19p a mile. And the combined range and trip distances plummet about 30 mile every cold start you do. Such that I filled up on Tuesday showing a range of 450 miles, and having done 5 journeys of 15 miles each (75 Miles) the range is now showing at 230 Miles. I've taken to using the Mx5 around town.
Ghosty Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Just been offered this cheap, 1.6 auto with possible hgf/water leak. Should I bother taking it? Isn't this the same as Ghosty's? Yeah, except mine has a grille stuck on. HGF is an easy job on these and gasket sets are about £30. They're pretty decent things - I paid £300 for one with HGF so if it's less than that I'd say go for it.I like the look of that better than my one, tbh, I'd quite like a white one, prefacelift too.... If the head gasket was OK and I knew some more details about condition, I'd consider offering a swap.
xtriple Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Went out earlier and there by my bin was a big black plastic case. 'How odd' I quothe! So I took it inside and had a look and it's a 24v cordless drill with all the bits. Charged it as it was a bit flat and it seems to work fine. Anyone want it? I just bought a new cordless drill and don't use one enough let alone two! oldcars 1

HMC Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Remember that rover 800 ad where the slick haired, pinstripe suited German executives were subtitled being ever so slightly impressed on first sight of the fastback? Well SWMBO ( German and basically the CEO of our family) had a few choice German words when she saw it for the first time this morning. No subtitles needed shall we say! trigger, RobT, mercrocker and 1 other 4

Eddie Honda Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Following knee issues (see grump thread), I had to sack off the idea of getting the 0730 Belfast - Cairnryan boat this morning. €47 down on the deal.[Just to rub it in, Stena Line text has just come through "We Hope you enjoyed your sailing". No I fucking didn't/couldn't.]So will venture outside and see if the bike is still an option or whether I'm going SailRail to Carlisle.

That's someones new car actually, she was telling us about it the other day. I'll pap a better picture, it looks green in the flesh.
