I must admit the zaf B is growing on me. I liked zaf a for a while and was tempted but found gear lever very low down.

Likely to be heavier on the ol' jungle juice though.

Firey nature is due to the resistor pack for the fan being replaced with a cheap Chinese one when it's breaks.

This is the 1.6 that goes like cold snot. Zafira is a 1.8sri though, so may have some forward momentum. Of course now we need to see if Amy wants it for £250, pay whenever... Sometimes I forget real life isn't autoshite

Just let Amy know the amount of work the Meriva actually needs, financially you could end up with a known good car for nothing once the Meriva is sold on.

one minor fly-in-the-ointment they got that wierd handbrake

It's family rates I think. Amys sis and hubby both have company vehicles now (him a bt van, her a car) so the zaf has been used on the odd rare occasion since november. That's why he said take it and pay later, it's costing them insurance sat there, as they can cancel their policy and not have one, plus tax. He fired it up after not starting it since mid december and it fired straight up and sounds smoother than the meriva...

It's also partly because he is 'one of those' car owners (BFG's Focus for £1500 thread, to him that would be reasonable). It's done 113k, to him high mileage. He says I could get the original alloy fixed so they match, erm nah, he wanted to put the broken bumper through the insurance, meh, no point...

So that, combined with it costing them money to not drive it, and they want it to go to a good home = bargain for us! Amy's not dead against it either, will get her to take it up the road asap to check she likes it

point out the boloxd bumper will get her space on the roads- PHAKT

That's my justification. Flog meriva on here for £300 with mot until nov, needing the rear calipers tickled/hit with a hammer and the interior shampooed, £50 up for a better* car!

MOT does run out in Feb for the zafira though, and already I would need to ask the AS MOT Massiv wether seatbelt buckles with no outercase on are legal, but small details... (wont get rid of the meriva until the zafira is ticketed)

I got on fine with that when I drove my stepdads 60 plate one a few times

I'm leaving it until she's got used to the size. ASM will have loads in, and I imagine loads are up for breaking on ebay. I'll just put tidier gaffa tape/cableties on

It's not had any of that touched, so hopefully it will be ok, there's a recall out anyway which we could take advantage of.

Apparently 330 miles to a tank (50 odd litres). And as I don't know how it's driven, and we all know about my fantastic MPG calculating skills...

faded quickly for me with brothers, rear windows no longer elektrical, rear screen just visual feature and drivers mirror burnt out the mirror glass.

Sound joyous...... I like electronics to work if fitted. Great thing about the van, nothing fitted so nothing to stop working!

Just get the thing then I can lust after it and keep checking the virtual piggybank.......

I’ve just spent a long weekend in France visiting family.  Spotted some tat but not huge amounts.

No pics of the Cavalier/Opel Vectra or phase 2 Safrane I saw, wasn’t quick enough as it was on the autoroute.

We did some skiing (my first time) so have a gratuitous snow shot.  There are cars in the pic albeit buried under snow!

Then on Monday after flying back from Geneva we had to drive up to Worcester on an unscheduled trip, as father-in-law is very ill at the moment and has been placed in a nursing home (fingers crossed he’s improving).  Driving home yesterday was a chore, not made any easier by all the twats on the M4, but a stop at the superb Gloucester services provided a pleasant break.  Pez station shot at the free air which is a novelty these days, especially at M-way services.

The Cavalier keeps plodding on, although the driver’s door lock is playing up again and it keeps losing coolant.  But the main thing is it works consistently, unlike the other two.

Probably the best car I've ever had in cold hard financial terms.

Purchased 1/9/2015 £5,000 with 112,000 miles

Sold Today £2,500 with 246,000 miles

Earned a living from it and only spent about £1200 all told on it including tyres and brakes.

All moderns are shit, obviously.

I think I'll tell the kids it's gone to live on a farm, not that it's destined to be broken for parts in Tirana

And it's away!

Is it now safe to say the fleet reduction was a massive* success?

Isn't SRi just a trim level now? I'm pretty sure you could spec a Corsa 1.0 SRi if you wanted.
Posted

Wasn't in the early 2000s at least, the Corsa C SRi was a 1.8 Ecotec, where as SXi was just the "sporty" top trim level with standard 1.4, and Design was the top "plush" one.

Now, it seems like SRi is what SXi used to be. You can spec a new one on VX's site with various connotations of 1.4 with 75-100bhp. Zzzz.

Apologies if I've missed it, but what have you replaced it with?

I think you might be right, Doovla says the engine is a 1798cc, I've not lifted the bonne but I imagine it will display ECOTECH on the plastic cover, well, until I remove it and not refit it anyway (must dig the merivas engine cover out from the side of the shed actually if we do sell it). It does have mahoosive alloys with low profile tyres (and no spare either, as in no provision for one). Everything else seems standard/on par with the meriva, but it's a, Enjoy model too so not the bottom of the range.

It does have the inbuilt tyre compressor though, that will be handy to have!

If we go for it, need to progress discussion about it later as her sister wants it gone asap so she can cancel the insurance and claim the tax back, and I'll want to have a crawl around it before the MOT is due in exactly 1 months time

A slightly newer (2011) E class Merc, it's even a similar colour, Cuprite Brown according to Mercedes.

I started a thread on the Open Forum when searching for a replacement, because of offensive modern content.

Some compensation after the self destructing BMW dissapointment.

You could get a 1.4,1.8 and a 1.7 turbo diesel Sri. You could only get the 1.2 petrol and 1.3cdti I think in the sxi.

Holy moly. I thought I was bananas doing 42,000 miles a year.  That is an incredible effort.  Over 7,000 miles a month!  What do you do (if it's not rude to ask?!)

Posted

AH, right.  Just seen that other thread.  I wish you'd put your Merc up for sale here.  I do stupid miles and would have been up for a 'known' modern.

Enjoy the new (same) one.

Posted

Yeh that Merc looks really nice and I bet its far more reliable than the last one.

Is that all it was really worth? Seemed pretty cheep to me even with the miles.

Bad news from my colleague, the ex-SiC Astra is unwell.  The oil pressure warning light came on earlier despite having been serviced a month ago.  A topup put it out but now it's misfiring and has been deposited at a garage for further investigation.  I do hope he hasn't killed it.

Posted

Oh noes! :?:(

How much oil went in to top it up? Those engines (I think/hope I said at the time) always use a bit of oil (Z16XE) despite passing emissions just fine and suffering no ills - unless they run out of oil.

Fingers crossed it's not totally dead! Misfire caused by a sticking valve/hydraulic valve lifter?

Edit: just re-read that it was serviced a month ago. It shouldn't have used that much oil in a month unless doing massive miles in that month. Or it's leaking out of the filter/sump plug.
