This'll be here for the long run I think - it came to a tossup between this and the 205 recently and the Pride won. Wife likes it, I bloody love it, without doubt one of the best cars I've ever owned. Need to do a shootout with the Shuma... ;)

Yes, well up for a Pride/Shuma shootout  :-D

Poorly Fiesta having a rest in town. Good job the driver was carrying a fat permanent marker and a large sheet of paper. #beprepared

Didn't Leroy the owner of the autoshite Base used to park where he wanted because of his hand written car broken down sign which he plonked in the window?

That's the density mine blew the black smoke out on the snap acceleration test on the first MOT...

As it's you I presume that'll be fixed by 3.30 today?

Yet again I forgot to roll the Insight half a wheel-rev before putting the jet washer away. Spats!

Can't you just pop that panel out to clean the wheels? Hydro cits are ace for washing the wheels and arch liners... pop it into high for that bit. Then back to low to help clean the roof!

The panel is removable but it involves two small and easily dropped 1/4 turn fasteners and kneeling in the wet. Yet another reason why this car needs Hydro-pneumatics.

The 205 picked up a screw in a rear tyre a couple of days ago, too close to the sidewall to repair.  Due to availability issues of 14" rubber and the need to get mobile rapidly (Blingo's having its rear end torn off tomorrow), it no longer has matching Barums.

No, my friends - one corner is now held off the ground by that shiters' Chinese vinyl deathring of choice, the Landsail Foo Kyu Ditchfinder.  A full report will follow, should I live long enough.

It's been nice knowing you...

Daughters battery on the jazz started playing up so I went got her a new one. Told her to stand back because I was going to fit and mechanics are no place for a girl with her nails. So fits it and dead as a dodo. So bonnet back up can't see anything wrong. Then daughter points out that the earth terminal has a.little plastic cover on. I thought it was tight fitting it. So remove cover and away she goes. Now you understand why I don't offer advice on mechanical matters.

My regrets of not buying this have evaporated faster than the coolant of an elderly Suzuki in a warm exhaust...

I have done something today that is so NOT Autoshite I am ashamed. No, I haven't bought anything on PCP but I have paid a small fortune for a totally pointless modification for the BGBM that will take a week to be made and then has to be fitted and painted etc.

It's another one of those things that I really wanted (regardless of the cost... well, not regardless but you know what I mean) but have been trying to avoid for a year as I didn't want to spend the money. But I really DID want the mod...

So what is it I have done?

Bought 'Mulliner Wing Vents' for the front wings. Specialist cars are going to fit them for me as I trust them to get them in the right place and not upside down on the bootlid and then I have to start the trawl for a decent person to paint them. I am such a fucking idiot, I can't afford them, the fitting will hurt as well but I still did it.

There is no hope for me.

So, in the New Year, I am going t sort out my motoring. I will sell the Kia, get the Mazda back on the road and use it and the dollop/BGBM  LOT more.

Didn't get a chance to do much fettling this weekend, although I did give the Toyota a wash and hoover ready for the drive down to Somerset at Christmas (when no doubt it'll be pissing with rain and the car will get filthy again).

I also scored two batteries off Gumtree for a tenner each - an 075 which has gone on the red Rover, and an 063 which has gone on the Innocenti, whose battery I'd nicked for the Mazda.  So all the fleet has working batteries now apart from the Volvo and the A35, neither of which move very much.

I also picked up this:

post-190-0-71909900-1482177211_thumb.jpg

Drove it back from near Peatboghorror this afternoon.  The bastard cock mong sat nav spat me onto the A1M and like a twat I didn't realise what it was doing until it was too late, so the journey home ended up being 20 miles longer than it should have as I went via the A14 and A11.  Van never missed a beat though.  It's a 2-litre twin cam petrol so it doesn't hang about - coming off the roundabouts on the A11 I was pissing off some much newer vans.  Doesn't seem that much thirstier than a DI either - the fuel gauge is woefully inaccurate as per usual on Transits, but as far as I can make out it seems to have done about 25mpg, which isn't too bad considering I never manage to get more than about 30 out of a DI and I was driving in a manner which a DI would have been incapable of.

It has some grot round the arches which will need looking at for the ticket in a month's time, but the chassis doesn't look bad from a quick glance.  Everything seems to work apart from the stereo which needs a code (I got hopeful when I found the audio manual in the paperwork, but some fecker has torn out the code card), and it has PAS which is a vast improvement on my last petrol Transit, which was like opening a sluice gate - not ideal when you've overdone it on a wet roundabout and the rear is in the process of overtaking the front.

It has seats in the back at the moment but I reckon I'll probably rip most of those out and just use it as a van.  If it doesn't need too much for its test I might keep it for a while - it's even LEZ compliant.

Oh, and I might shortly be becoming the proud* owner of a three-headed monster, although probably not until after Christmas.

Having owned 2cvs and Cxs for 25 years I leave the handbrake off when washing and push the damned Things a metre each way.

Edit. When washing the cxs I remember I put them in high mode to start. The 2cv still gets pushed around.

Will they make it run cooler or is it just a Christmas present excuse? No problems either way :-)

In a moment or two or alcoholic stupidity I have just bid a fiat X1/9 press pack to £70! Luckily I was out bid.

eBay then offered an alternative buy for £19.75 for a more period correct (for my1988) pack. Hooray. Seller sounds great too- it was a buy it now thing, which I did and so paid. Immediate reply thanking me for paying instantly.

Anyway, conversation goes on and I say that I actually have the car and am not a brochure collector. He replies that he mostly sells to car owners as brochure collectors mainly are interested in free stuff from dealers.

I am ON TOUR in Scotland.

I've been keeping an eye out for scotchoshiters and reckon I saw Barry Cade/Taff plucking some unfortunate off the side of the M90 this morning!! A 4x4 electric co Sprinter went past me in Dundee and I thought of LP, and just up from the DC Thompson building coming round the roundabout was a scruffy silver N reg V8 Lexus with a blowing exhaust, anyone on here?!

But you will be buying the car from him that was outside the garage the other day won't you, so you are only actually worried about buying more than that one?
