The Panda has a big dent in the passenger side door and after spending ages looking for a replacement black door (looking on eBay twice) I decided to take matters into my own hands.

I cut a slit along the bottom and down the side of the door then slid a metal bar in down the back and knocked the shit out of it with a hammer. Not perfect but a bit of wob and I recon it'll look okay.

A few years ago I won a ton of 3m clay bars off eBay for £1.99. I'm not convinced it's 3m and is more likely grade 3 blue tac, which is the stuff that gets cornflakes stuck in it.

The Paint on the Panda is grim so I clay barred in a semi half arse manner but by fuck it made a big difference. No 2 bucket wanker here just an old washing up bottle with some soap ywater in it. I recon with a quick polish it'll come up a treat.

Induction air leak?Ben

If all else fails

It's also worth taking off the idle control valve and giving it a blast with some carb cleaner as they stick a bit and I now do mine every time I service my BMW.

Scary old cortina saved the day for me though as when my 3 series was doing similar and no one could find the fault he told me to get a new CCV valve and it cured it instantly

I think it looks something like this on the E46 on my E36 it's just a plastic disc so it might be different I think the part was less than a tenner new on eBay .

It'll still fail the MOT as insecure if you don't have an alternative way of holding it down - "unlikely to move much" isn't really acceptable.

It isn't; a lot of testers do that bit incorrectly, in this instance "insecure" means that it is likely to fall off or out of it's tray.

However arguing the toss with an MOT tester rarely bares fruit.

I'm not a fan of Jeremy Clarkson but was idly reading his weekly half page of thoughts in the Sunday Times arsepaper the other day. Apparently he dislikes farting and people who derive pleasure from breaking wind. He then went on to complain about smokers being required to leave restaurants to have a cigarette, so I expect there'll soon be chuffing areas outside the sort of knobby joints he frequents.

Tickets booked for the collection of ROFFLEZX on Friday. A 2.5hr drive to just north of Birmingham in the RAV, then a couple of trains down to Reading - another two hours. Then a ride in a shambolic BX. Then a four-hour drive home back to Wales, hopefully in time for a party at the hotel. I'll hopefully find time for a post-caper report on the Saturday.

Free charging points should only be funding by the purchase of the car, otherwise I should get free petrol.

not sure which model this is but it's outside at the moment.

You realise that oil industry is receiving trillions in subsidies on a global scale don't you?

You're actually paying for that petrol twice.

Three times if you count the cost of healthcare.

Four if you include the effect on the environment.

I think it probably disintegrated from the weight of expectations placed on it by EV fantasists.

As an exercise in hitting a nail on the head the above statement hits the nail on the head.

A debate would be cool; we're gonna have to give up ICEs eventually.

No way are they stopping me having a wireless in my car....

First ever mpg check on the Mondeo shows almost 38 mpg over 400 miles or so. Pretty good going!

Dreadfully boring car is going back, it's dreadful, boring and it doesn't actually start very well.

I can't say I'm upset, perhaps a little dissappointed as it might have been useful.

That's the new tyre and one really good one swapped from the spares 406 to the daily, plus the electric window switch console. Next stop the bridge.

Corsa work continued, changed o/s/f ABS wire (we were told that was the faulty one) and it still shows the light on the dash.

May need to do a few miles to confirm signal is now right from the sensor?

I drove the P4 yesterday for its first outing on only 4 cylinders. Being a slave to fashion I wanted to make this move before Porsche got their 718 Cayman out.

The steering is lighter, it pulls a 3.54 diff happily and is just as flexible and a lot spritelier than the 6 cylinder. As always there are lots of small things to do- the second new thermostat still has a much lower opening temp than written on the side so the newly rebuilt heater is feeble. Ive found ancient heaters usually perform badly because the internal seals dissolve letting cold air get in around the matrix, time spent with modern sealants and making some thin foam gaskets works wonders. It helps to put warm water through them though, Mr Chinese Thermostat manufacturer.

I now have to tidy up the pipework, make up HT leads that are about half the length of those that came with the engine. I have a smaller stream mixer for the LPG coming from Poland which is why it has the nasty old inlet pipe at present. What an achievement, performance must now be on a par with a base model Matiz.

The backbox I bought had better turn up today, I'm not at work tomorrow!

Also fucked up with the exhaust rubbers, hit buy on a listing that had 4 on the picture... yep, you guessed it, only one turned up, reading the listing only one was for the price... FFS. Hoping there's one or two rubbers under the car, otherwise I'll have to either get some, or borrow 2 from the meriva then replace with cable ties after the test or something!

That really gets to me on eBay listings.  I felt really stupid asking a vendor if the brake pads listed were priced individually or for a set but it turns out it wasn't so stupid a question since a lot of eBay vendors pull this crap to make sure their listing shows as cheapest.

Another ploy that stops me buying from eBay is that the built in postal charges are usually second class with no options so that for a one off low value item delivery to Lincs will be at least 3 days and more if the horse loses a shoe. If I need a fan belt it's because the old one is fucked, not to add to my fan belt collection.

It depends more on the seller actually posting stuff. I ordered a load of bits for the Horizon on Tuesday none of which have arrived. I then ordered a radiator for a saxo yesterday that was here first thing this morning. Postal services can only deliver stuff if the muppets actually get off their arses and post it out. 2 of the parts ordered on Tuesday are still showing as not dispatched.

I'm more annoyed at myself I suppose because, as you say I know this shit happens alot! Shame because at £5 for 4 it was a bargain, but now I have a bloody poly exhaust hanger that I paid a bastard fiver for and can do nothing about it because it does state in the listing that only 1 was going to arrive.

Can you return it as unwanted? Might be worth looking into

ECP will have standard rubber hangers in stock for pennies

I'd be tempted to submit a eBay claim that it's not as described, if the picture clearly shows 4. Can always say you bought based on the picture and heading. Normally eBay are pretty good on such things.

Make a note of the number plates, in case they wheel in replacements in the same colour.

I saw something suggesting they had a Triumph Fury on the other night! Sorry, THE Triumph Fury.
