So it turns out, all my insurance policy's have jumped up silly amounts...

The Lexus has gone up £150, the Cappuccino £200.

4 years NCB with them and im a year older....

How does this happen, I though it was meant to get cheaper?

Mother_Peel bought a new Civic 1.4 recently. It actually seems like quite a pleasant car, comfy and doesn't ride like the wheels are square as I'd expected.

However it has a bloody HDMI port and what amounts to an Android tablet in the dash. What is point! My mum won't even use a home computer or smartphone.

Quite useful for some phones to get your Google Maps on the big screen, since most in-car nav is limited to the apps they give you which vary between awful and really awful. As a bonus, HDMI doesn't let you interact with your phone via the screen so you could argue it's safer than having a phone on the dash.

Having said that, HDMI over USB was only ever adopted by a handful of devices and hardly any new ones do it. I don't think the Honda does MHL which is the standard that took over a few years ago - and these days, everything is done wirelessly. The new Astras my old colleagues have are pretty sweet in getting your navigation app on the big screen.

As for why your mum bought one, who knows? ;) Mind you, my car has loads of features I don't use, like indicators and a rear seat.

Choose your favourite reason from the following list

1. Value of the pound

2. Insurance Tax has increased

3. Uninsured drivers

4. They aren't making enough profit

1-3 are the ones they'll tell you if you ask; 4 is the real one.

Do you still have 14 days to cancel if its an automatic renewal?

Sounds like they have pulled your pants down.

You just let it renew. They got you good, son.

I don't think I've ever got a renewal price that was lower than what I paid the previous year... Every year is a new company, sometimes I go back to the first one a couple of years later when they decide to be competitive!

I have from Direct Line - but only if I've asked them not to auto-renew on policy end. My wife's policy renewal was by far the cheapest I could find. On my policy I forgot to ask to have auto renewal disabled and they put it up £80.

When I said I was going to cancel it and go somewhere else, they offered to require it. Low and behold it dropped quite a bit.

You will have 14days cooling off period, but be aware that most insurance companies charge ridiculous cancellation fees still in that period.

Just spent an enjoyable hour poking around the Favorit and giving it a bit of an interior clean and making a mental list of (non-mechanical) jobs.

First 'issue' there is a water leak and it is coming in through the aftermarket aerial (previously giffer sealed with clear sealant) and dripping through the interior light. I think I will just re-seal for now.

How easy is it to remove the tow bar? I can't obviously see how it is screwed on but seems connected to the bumper.

Update:

The Crappuccino is off the insurance. Netting me back £500.

So the insurance premium's have gone up across the board, I do mind reading that a few months ago. But changing cars often on the policy up's the premium. Also because someone twatted my dad's 406 last November, I've been shafted because of the claim, and his policy is part of my policy.Oh, and it's costing me £1000 to insure the Abarth because all "Moderns are shit"...

Worst part is the price of the BMW, So Think I'll see if Supernaut will be the new provider of Insurance for it.

Oh well, lesson learned.

I saw this tweeted from Surrey Police this morning. Scary, is that the engine from the car up the road in the photo? I wonder what the other car was!

Looks like there was no other car...

From Favorit manual 'oil consumption in un-favourable driving conditions (e.g. frequently driving in towns) may be as much as 1 litre over 60 miles'

Blimey! Off to get some 10w40 in stock!

Popped along to Donnington this morn in the trophy.

It's only 15 mins away so thought I would give it a go.

Was a performance French car thing. Wasn't the best.

These are the only things I bothered snapping.

Says a lot for modern car safety that driver walked away. Well probably staggered

I didn't even know the Laguna Owners Club was a thing!

EDIT: Facearse thing, never mind.

It's world famous. I hovered around while a Eastern European fella I think I tried to tell them his engine cover melted.

I can't tell what the car is ( or used to be) - anyone?

140bhp, I thought it was a "bit flat" performance-wise.

I had a 140. You really should try it with a caravan on the back. Hopeless.

Didn't notice overly light steering, overly inflated tyres?

I am desperately trying to get hold of a rear bulb holder for my Visa.

I ordered one from Germany but it arrived and the same friggin light that was knackered on mine was fooked on this one.......

There is one on Ebay here but I flatly refuse to pay £109 for it FFS.

Surely I can get one cheaper than that? I need all my pennies to replace the clutch.

I managed to find my way onto a website the other week where there were several of them but now I cant find it again as I am a chump.

Does anyone have any good suggestions of where to looks for parts for relatively obscure French cars?

What's broken on it? Not possible to glue it back together with some plastic solvent glue? Like what is used with air fix kits.

Jumbuck didn't make it's "reserve" I don't really know what to do with it now.

Which side?

O/S in the UK.

Have asked how much it would be to deliver these to the UK and the ones that Wuvvum found on Ebay.

Ta for your help chaps.

I had been looking for about an hour and had found nowt. Took 6 minutes of asking on here.....Should've done that first.

I mended it a couple of years ago and it worked for a bit but seems to have deteriorated over time so I decided to simply replace it.

It was this that was the problem:

I patched it together with some circuit board repair fluid.

Worked for about 6 months and then the brake bulbs kept blowing.

I replaced them with LED bulbs but they were really dim so decided to replace it rather than try and fix it again.

VX2300S . . . Carb-Tickling Sunday

Well that went predictably badly.

Went to the shed, started up the Vauxhall, it ran like shit and died when I took my foot off the gas, as usual.

Removed the airbox so I could get to the fast idle screw, turned it a bit one way.  Car wouldn't start at all.  Turned it a bit the other way, car started and ran maybe a bit better.  After filling the shed with a good amount of carbon monoxide, I felt brave enough to go for a drive.

Happy days, drove home fine and gave the Victor a light shampoo and wax as it was a little dusty.  Celebrated with a cup of tea.

Then went to drive it back to the shed.  It started, eventually, but was back to running as badly as ever.  It won't idle without a load of throttle, misfires horribly and the exhaust tries to smash itself to bits on the towbar mounting.  No amount of sitting and trying to warm it up helps any.  Limped back to the shed like that.

I'm sick of this now.  It's consumed two of the three waking hours this weekend I'm not spending working (again).  It's already had an entirely new HT-side ignition system, points gapped, new condenser, coil rewired.  The carburettor is clean and there's no sign of a blockage.  Please don't bother suggesting how to fix it, I don't have time and don't care (although thanks anyway).  I'm away working 6 days a week until Christmas so I can't take it to a garage, either.

If somebody wants to make me a ridiculously low offer to come and take this car away I'll almost certainly say yes.
