Just turned down a free car. Feels strange.

Weirdo! :)

This is for real and only yesterday!BUT I was on a train between Reading and Slough.

The reason for that speed is obvious. It's because I don't signal the trains on that line anymore :)

Haha - it was a stinker of a mk4 1.4 Golf, 130k on the clock and needing a complete exhaust system inc cat, brake pipes and a few other bits to have any hope of the man from the ministry writing a ticket for it

Could have weighed it in for a very slight profit and satisfaction of sending a mk 4 Golf to be fragged.

1.4 is the 75hp 90s Polo engine, misery spec Golf, they're best avoided.

True but it wasn't really worth the couple of hours of my time plus the risk of driving it with a capped off brake pipe and 3 almost functioning brakes for £30 :)

Legendary VW build quality - the glovebox was held shut using two self tapping screws

I stuck the OMGa on gumtree back on Saturday, no bites yet. Philistines, don't know a fine motor car when they see it. Pah!

I really want a 306 HDi estate again. Even worse, RantingYoof found my old one's brother in Birmingham. It's the exact same colour, spec, trim colour, and even the number plate is exceedingly similar! Even better, it has 20k miles less than my old one had in 2014 and is in much tidier condition (and has a sunroof! mine didn't). Chances of me being able to shift the OMGa before this 306 sells? Probably very slim. :(

My reason for selling the OMGa is thus: It's a nice car in a lot of ways, but it's not 'me'. I want a mad little French turbo diesel to chuck about the place instead of a living room on wheels with an auto box that belms at the sight of twisty Scottish back roads.

So, there I am sitting roadside in Ludlow munching on a bacon sarnie purchased from a high quality* burger van when I spy an early Disco. Oooh, same colour as my old one. Oooh, same graphics as my old one! Oh. It is my old one! Hello Catsinthewelder!

Was nice to see it again, and now I know where Mr Cats works.

Also, the XM has now covered 1000 miles in two weeks. The windscreen washers have gone to shit again.

Had some Scouse scally eyeballing the car this afternoon (it was outside here) and asking odd questions about it. I am 'slightly' spooked by this so I have turned the battery off and dead locked it. Watch for a thread tomorrow moaning and whinging that the car is electrically dead and it's a new battery and everything is shit...

He was probably a very nice chap, but....

Just been offered an Allegro very cheap just needs a gearbox (or gearbox repair) anyone have one for a 1500? It looks like I'll be committing to buy it and as a consequence ill need to sell my mk3 Marina. Anyone interested in a very easy and mega rare project. Needs small amount of welding and clutch freeing off. (Can weld it for the right price) and have a replacement clutch and various spares including 2 wings.

Any help on Allegro gearbox appreciated. ....

Due to some monumental dvla fuckuppery I had to phone the dvla today and pretend to be a dead man to get a log book for a car i've sold. I feel really bad about it but weirdly it seem's dead people get a better and faster service :-D.  I'm gonna burn in hell for this one I just know it

I've had a jolly nice* drive to Henley and back today. Rather spiffing SD1 passed me in the opposite direction on my way home between Bledlow and Chinnor. Could it have been a certain lawyer of this parish?

Chaps...

Need a bit of help please. Need a lift from Portsmouth to near or around Uxbridge if anyone is going that way. I have just had to borrow some money from family to get me around and eat.

The job is rather expensive for getting from job to job and I haven't even been paid my first pay packet yet. Sigh... :(

Having a bit of culture shock with having to unsure a 2nd non classic car. I've got used to paying 100 quid a year for classic insurance and my Juke is 170 quid a year because I'm old but they want an extra 300 to add the Panda to my policy.

I guess I need to do a bit of shopping around but I flipping hate dealing with insurance companies.

Have been shopping around today for similar reasons - Premiums on my two 'daily drivers' are almost the same as yours (separate policies), but this year's renewal on my 1961 Reliant Regal has gone up to £100 and the mileage limit down to 500 miles.  Tried an insurer recommended by the Reliant Owners Club.  They did not have a 1961 Regal on their database and started questioning me as if they thought I'd cocked up on the details.  Said they'd 'phone back, but didn't.

Other news.  My Stellar's front wheel bearing was replaced by the garage today for a fairly painless £60.  I picked the car up this evening and, instead of going straight home, drove through the lanes to Daventry to get a MacDonalds, then returned home via more single track lanes in the moonlight.  I had to thread the car very slowly along one stretch because sheep and lambs had settled for the night on the (presumably) warm tarmac.  Why do I love this car so much?

Cheers man, unfortunately it's gotta be tomorrow. The other problem with this job is that you only know of the job the day before. You can reject the job but I've got a back up, I can get to the next job but means wasting nearly 3 hours on a train and possibly picking up the car late and not getting to destination on time in Wales. If push comes to shove I'll talk to the office about advancing me a small bit of cash.

I've heard of stories of people quitting this job because they couldn't even afford a local bus fare. I shan't but it's just a bit tough as well seeing as I have a general time frame I like to keep to.

When do you need it? I live in Pompey and my office is in Feltham

Is it bad that I'm regretting turning down that Golf and now thinking about whether I could turn a few quid by OMG RAT LUK YO-ing it and selling it to a dubmong ?

Posted

the best thing that could happen to that golf besides been turned into frag would be burning it with real fire.

not even the dubmongers are that stupid as to have wanted that thing.

Allitalia came yesterday to replace the starter motor. About thirty minutes to remove the old one. Then the opened the box and found they'd been sent the wrong one. Back again later with the correct one hopefully.
