We witnessed an accident today. I was giving reb a driving lesson and we were a few cars back at a red light waiting to turn right here https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@56.479842,-2.9522693,3a,75y,14.46h,75.35t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1spSh-qW-zfxTJpVRaBzR7UA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Just as I was explaining what a badly designed junction it is a Focus travelling from east to west collected a van that was travelling from north to south and buried itself in a pedestrian island. Nobody injured but it would have been a different story if any pedestrians had been waiting to cross.

Good work Ed. Did you also get that BG 323?

Yeah and as you might expect I have secured some appropriate wheels for it already ;) Bizarrely, another one that's almost identical is on Gumtree at the moment in Notts. Better condition by the look but more money...

Due to various clunks and whines and the imminent MOT I have just ordered lower arms, track rod ends, anti-roll bar bushes and wheel bearings for the PT. Less than £150 for everything seemed cheap enough and should stop the car feeling like a pedalo in a force 9 off the Bay of Biscay...... I just hope it will be dry next weekend as the spares PT is blocking the garage which itself is full of partly dismantled Allegro VDP and I am a bit old to be crawling under cars with spanners in the rain...

Well yesterday the black panda needed a large top up of water in the radiator and dripped it out immediately.

I filled the radiator with about a pint and it was full today and no leaks!

Had a faultless test drive to leeds and back ( 3 police cars overtook me - were just being delivered somewhere and had tape covering the police - all Hyundai!) 3 up and smooth pulled well.  No overheating issues either!

Been in contact with my Panda guy who did the resto of the red one, I'll be taking him the 4x4 for an engine upgrade soon, (fuel injection for teh win!), the maestro for rust treatment and paint and possibly the uno for the door.  Oh and the Y10 for earthing issues which cause the car to loose power erratically.

If the Black and white ones go this year and the donor car is stripped I can get the drive widened and get all my chod on my property.

Well that's the plan.

Quite why you would choose to neglect a vehicle like that and be proud of it is beyond me

That's not all !!  At one year old and just out of warranty , one of the injectors split . Ringing around , VW didn't have one , Lucas didn't have one , and i was stuck at work with 3 cylinders and a hole . How to get home??   Injectors i knew were nano critical,  aren't they ?  So i jammed it back together and put the bugger in the vice tight , and arc welded the top bit to the bottom bit ,right the way round ,with a 3.2   .. quenched it out ,re fitted the used fire ring and put the injector back in . And its been like that ever since !!! Not a murmur !

Vdub innit ..go on for ever  :-D

1.9td's blow up at 150k anyway..Pulley bolt comes loose or something..

Lidls have cheap oil tomorrow... I'll change it..maybe  :-D

I've been offered an 1108cc engine out of an early mk3 active panda (if it fails MOT), one way or another the bloody carb set up days are numbered.

On the plus side I may be going to Belfast to have a look at an interesting panda.

How about a FREE 1108 engine from a similar Panda that just* needs a head gasket / cylinder head rebuild if that falls through?

It was so much better as roundabouts before they 'improved' things! I live about 500 meters from here so know it well.

Don't you just hate it when a seller accepts a really cheeky offer that you don't think he will consider at all?!

Week off work, I'd already sorted myself one project to work on (more on that later), looks as though I need to get my arse into gear for a 2nd collection this week too.

Might've just bought a Citroën Xantia 1.8 Pez...

Anyone fancy a scruffy but sound AX?

Just heard from Xantia chap who is away for two weeks, which is ideal actually as it gives me a chance to sell Les Tin des Bisquites.

Excited!

Today is the day!

Yes, I get the keys to my new garage. Of course, I don't have a car to put in there as it's away at the bodyshop, but hey, it's progress! Got a mate to give me a hand to start moving shit out of the storage unit and up to its new home.

I am strangely excited!

Hmmm... If I had applied myself more at school I might now live in a HOUSE >> With a GARAGE :(

* ok - A double garage, to accomodate a partially dismantled Hillman IMP.

I feel your pain M8

Just waved goodbye to my Range Rover - off to be restored by the new owner down in Dorset.

This now leaves us with a Clio III for the wife and a 58 year old Austin A35 for me  8)

Time to sod the Clio off and get an estate methinks. Thankfully the clio owes us a lot less than it's market value.

Ed, what are the plans for the Cherry? shell donor for the europe?

Posted

Sold the Disco 3 over the weekend to pay for a Mega vets bill we have incoming, and picked up an 06 Volvo V70 D5 sport for the better half...

1st impressions are good.

Fsh upto 90k and it's at 106 now so due a look over

Only issue is the park assist is shouting it needs a service..not a clue how to do that on a set of sensors but we can let it off that little grumble

Goes very well and has that 5 cylinder grumble when you clog it past 3.5k rpm

The Rover seems to be staying as no one wants it

And finally I've had a letter from the Dvla asking to confirm the id of the Cupra, including pics if all vin plates.....

I'm guessing it'll turn out to be insurance claim that the po didn't tell me about, despite me asking several times.....time will tell

However, there is a kit available to slip the Cupra 1.8t into a Rover 25/MG ...........

That's the plan in the long term. Then I can have a Cherry Europe to play with. A 1.7 16v boxer would be a lot of fun in one!

Fuel pump has ceased to live on the 360. This leaves me with one working car again - a Hillman Imp.

I'm not having the best of luck in general at the minute, so this is not welcomed at all.

Went in my Grandads lag II 1.8 auto today. A Shite tastic car. Lilac exterior with light blue interior! Cracked left front bumper after catching it many times on the front when parking in the garage and a scuffs on the right where he hits the car that parks opposite the part of his drive he gets out on when they park too close...

Interior on the phase 1 reminds me that I really want a phase 2.

Cleaned up the crank sensor as getting occasional non starts. Also fixed a banging over speed bumps - washer bottle retaining nut was loose??

Looked up on the MOT history. 2 years ago this was the fail list:

Reason(s) for failure

Front Headlamp cleaning device inoperative (1.7.2)

Drivers door catch insecure (6.2.B.2)

Nearside Front Tyre tread depth below requirements of 1.6mm (4.1.E.1)

Offside Front Tyre tread depth below requirements of 1.6mm (4.1.E.1)

Nearside Rear Sub-frame rubber bush deteriorated resulting in excessive movement (2.4.G.2)

Offside Rear Sub-frame rubber bush deteriorated resulting in excessive movement (2.4.G.2)

Offside Front Lower Ball joint dust cover excessively damaged so that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt (2.2.C.1c)

Front Windscreen wiper does not clear the windscreen effectively (8.2.2)

Rear Brake pad(s) less than 1.5 mm thick (3.5.1g)

Rear brake disc in such a condition that it is seriously weakened (3.5.1i)

Service brake: efficiency below requirements (3.7.B.7)

Parking brake: efficiency below requirements (3.7.B.7)

70k on the clock and despite being garaged its whole life, serviced on the dot, it feels rather shagged.

Being 93 this week, also means it's a matter of time he'll have to stop driving it.

Oh and it's pretty damn slow.

Sitting in the back of the A4 today, I've clocked that a) it needs a door seal, 2) mystery clonk is still coming from the wheelarch, and c) I regret the lowering springs, but it's either that, £90 a corner for the correct springs from Audi, or standard springs and the car sits way, way too high.

Car shopping with the parents..

could be mildly interesting:)

so far we know the maw likes driving the merc c180 but hates the foothaunbrake setup..

that rules out the e500 that was lined up:(

and no, she wont just leave it in park:)

Just driven back from n Wales in the merc. Interior fan motor blew its fuse, but otherwise fine.

Heh, I could never trace the mystery clonk from the front left of mine. The price of the springs got too much for me and I ended up selling it.

I have a slight hankering for a hot hatch now... as nice as the Omega is, it's just... meh. *shrugs shoulders*

Knowing me, I'll probably trundle about in the Omega for months / years before doing anything though.

Managed to get a couple of colour coats onto my Panda engine today (rocker cover and sump to be painted later)

Wifes Fiesta passed it's MOT just needed a trackrod end, bloody ace car we've had from new, now 12 yrs old, 104k and it's on it's original suspension, exhaust and rear brakes. I got to play MOT tester helper too doing all the fast idle and light flashing :)

Did you distract him by bibbing the horn when he got his plastic hammer on the sills ?

Undercarriage is solid as a rock baby :) He even remarked how clean she was , I don't normally take the wife with me but a compliments a compliment

SWMBO is making noises about putting her MPV up for sale as we are after a 7-seater (ideally a Zafira) for either a direct swap or with a little money on top.

It's an '06-plate Hyundai Matrix 1.6 GSi, M.o.T'd until end of June - last one needed a brake light switch, which went kaput as it was driven to the test centre (!), will have a new timing belt fitted and a full valet before sale. It has a dent on the passenger rear door and a small dent on the tailgate. Towbar fitted for shite collectioning but in reality has only towed a small box trailer once.

It has been looked after all it's life and is a very very good car for what it is. I'm not expecting a lot of response from this, just thinking out loud in a way but if anyone does need a roomy 5-seater then they would do a lot worse than this.
