My local factor used to sell Fister blades, they were a right pain in the arse.

Hahaha

The metal parts had gone quite rusty after a year, but I do live in Wales.

I've had great results with this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Invisible-Glass-Premium-Windscreen-Repellent/dp/B001T95NLM

They also do a version without the repellent that i use inside.

My blades were juddering and now are not. Use on screen/wiper blades and as the directions say use a clean dry cloth. You must get it all off to prevent smearing. Added bonus you don't always need the wipers anymore. Anything above 40 and the repellent does the job. Came down the M11 one night at 70 in heavy rain with no reflection from the street lighting it was great.  :-D  I apply it about once a week your mileage may vary.

Scenic reminded me earlier that 2 trouble free weeks is pushing it - stalled immediately after starting the engine which is the dephaser pulley on the way out

Bastard.

Are you still running it on the same battery, or did you put a fresh(er) one in?

Got given another snow foam lance, a kosher Linntec one this time. Great job. I've washed the Jaaaag and Volvo, next door's 3 cars and the downstairs windows of my house.

Got any pics? How do you use it?

Audi?

Correct!.

I know very little about them but at the price agreed and listening to it's history it sounds like a lovely car. I'm picking it up from Nottingham in the morning, ROAD TRIP!

I'm with Cheggers on this one, I reckon he's going for the Audi ... Trigger still likes the manuels.

Excellent. I am very fond of these. Please Shiply it to Shitefest so we can drool over it in your absence.

Today I popped over to North Yorks (about an hour and a haffs journey on the motorways.  I saw the air ambulance on the other carriageway, dozens of police cars and what's left of a car? halfway up the concrete post of a flyover.

I got to my destination without incident, rifled through a load of panda spares and took a few things away with me that I've probably already got but forgotten about.

Gets into the orange 4x4, he turns over but won't fire.  After about ten minutes my mate has a look, adjusts choke to full and it fires.

There begins a 2 hour journey of no power, rotten b roads through admittedly lovely countryside but tedious in the extreme.  The last leg of the journey involves getting onto the m62 for ten minutes, just before the turn off monsoon hits, wipers make no difference and road markings are invisible.

Crawl up the hill to home in first gear and park the gittin machine on the garden.

I've been offered an 1108cc engine out of an early mk3 active panda (if it fails MOT), one way or another the bloody carb set up days are numbered.

On the plus side I may be going to Belfast to have a look at an interesting panda.

I'm even more gutted i can't make it now. :( Didn't you have one for these a few years back i seem to recall?. This is a 2.2 10v 5 Cyl which is meant to be a fantastic engine. the interior is like new considering it's done 150k, I'm really excited now!.

I had a 100 many years ago. Loved that five-pot warble. The 90 is like the same, but in a much neater package. Came very close to buying Keith Adams' 90 earlier this year, but lacked a vital ingredient. That money stuff.

Had that Audi in my watch list a few weeks ago. Looks like it got relisted.

Yes the bloke asked him to keep it until today and kept texting him to say he was still having it then late last night he got a ebay message saying transaction cancelled!, He was a bit pissed off, still his loss is my gain! I'm paying less than that price too. ;)

Nice numberplate on that Aldi as well Triggs, would be a DOOVLA select nowadays. Barnsley/Doncaster area issue by the looks, on other notes Mondeo had a minor FTP the other night, all down to a coolant leak, expansion tank had 2 very minor cracks in it, after doing a bit of googlification, turns out it happens on Mk3 Mondeos. Genuine Ford tank got from John Grose and fitted in 15 mins with minimum coolant loss. Done almost 300 miles in it today running back & forth, and it feels really nice to drive

Literally just north of the city on the outskirts, so that's nearly 3 hours away! Thanks for the offer but I'll want to get back. It was the sellers girlfriends great uncle's car then he gave it to his son (the girlfriend's uncle) but he's recently passed away, It sounds like it's been very well maintained.

It comes from Sheffield all it's life, supplied by Gilders of Sheffield.

To be honest, they can't have been very torn, but they certainly were once the tester was finished with them! I'd checked the washers, but not the blades...

Yeah, he's definitely NOT allowed to do that, if they cleared the screen adequately even if they were slights split, it's a pass and advise, you aren't supposed to pull them about.

Just behing a mazda 5 that smoked like a Kuwaiti oilfield after Saddam had been through.

Are all modern mazda's pish?

Can I remind you of the phrase "hey, this time we've fixed the Wankel engine and it won't drink its own oil and grenade turning an attractive sports cars into frag fodder about 5 minutes after the warranty runs out. Honest."

I'd trust the expenses claim of a tory MP who used to be an estate agent before I'd trust Mazda.

A quick question to the (un)wise, what a 1980's Audi 90 2.2 10v's like? Do they make good dailies? I'm guessing mpg will be around the 25-30 mark and do they have a cambelt?.

They're ace, do 30+mpg all the time and yes, they have a cambelt, but it's a doddle to change, but the bottom pulley  bolt is FT. Can't remember offhand about the Audi, but the old 5cyl Passat/Santana had a hole to access the bottom pulley bolt behind the number plate- I used to use an inch drive air gun...

Waiting at the junction nearest the unit I watched as a Vauxhall Astra literally disappeared in a big cloud of smoke or steam.  Rather than carry on and leave them stranded, I stopped and told them to follow me to the unit so we could find out what had happened.

Once at the unit we found, after some testing (but not much) that the head gasket had gone compression to coolant and it was just throwing all the water straight out the exhaust pipe.  Could the car be driven the 35 or so miles to Newcastle?  Well... it *could* but I didn't have enough containers to give the driver for the amount of water they'd need at the rate it was chucking the water out.  Could we fix it?  Not today, it's Easter Bank Holiday and everywhere else is shut.

After a bit of a natter and thankfully the driver and her daughter getting husband out to give them a lift home it was agreed we'd price up repairing the car for her and get it done.  Chap turns up in a Mazda 6 and asks if we can pull the undertray off because it's bouncing around.  Found it was attached with three tiewraps and two bolts (one of which sheared) and that was sorted.

All in all, they did seem like lovely people who had just had one of those days.  It looks like the damage to the Vauxhall will be minimal too, it must have happened at the moment the car stopped at the road end so it hadn't had chance to overheat or do serious damage, we hope.  Head gasket, new bolts, possibly belt and water pump and might even get away without a skim and it should be sorted.

Best of all, it got a bit of work in for the garage unexpectedly. Chompy reckoned the Gypsy Curse is now breaking strangers cars that happen to be near us because we're getting too good at fixing our own.

I commend your  throw back attitude to 'knight of the road' times of old, Vulgalour, but thread carefully; especially with HGF of a random strangers astra; very involved job, n you don't know who these folk are n what they are like...

I was once like you; offering to lend a hand; co'incidentally involves an astra - 01 1.4, where the bottom pulley  came off, along with its retaining bolt; electric steering inoperable n the car died - was a friend of my cousin, on the motorway; - went 50miles outta my way to rescue her - its a minimum of €120 to be recovered on a motorway here- A framed the astra back to hers, after dropping her to a bus stop to get to work...

I ended up 'fixing' the astra, - the key way /woodruff bit was shredded off the crank nose, but I bodged it back with a scrappy pulley n bolt along with some nails to hold it on - explained the now junk status of their crank/engine; despite goin very much outta my way to recover their car, save them the recovery fee; all they were prepared to pay for was the scrapyard bits plus some locktite - €37.50 most of it in loose change; - kept the receipts from the breakers - id even bought some 'outey' tork bits to do the job too... they refused to pay anymore, n I was outta pocket; her boyfriend offered 'some grass for a joint' on top, but even a joint couldn't supress my rage at that stage...never again!!

Well... the noble deed was done because that's how I am but it has the chance of earning Mike's garage a bit of cash.  Nothing ventured, nothing gained.  They seemed decent sorts in a bit of a bind, we were up front about everything and if they don't like any of it then they're welcome to jog on.  Gut feeling says it'll be okay whatever the outcome.
