Fiesta ST went in for its service this year. I'm sure they don't do anything but look at it wife still wants it done for a pointless stamp and the free* Ford recovery.

Anyway bloke in the service bit at the main dealers (Coopers of Oulton) is really good only have to say your name and he knows all about our cars. Says that ours is the only ST they get in now. It's only 10

Applied a fogger to the focus today as the smell wouldn't leave even after steam cleaning. Thought it would be cheaper option than new carpet.

So far so good, it smells OK inside.

Saab decided to throw its toys out the pram today and make funny grating noises. When I got a chance to check the front brake shield had rusted through and dropped off rubbing inside the wheel. Just need to clean it and get it up for sale.

Missus Moog has decreed that the merc and Saab have to go, and the stickers on back of focus need to be removed.

I used something similar on the civic that stunk of cigarettes whenever it got warm in the sun - it never smelled like a new car but it did clear the honk of stale ciggies. Hope you are not planning to use the car for a few days though :)

If you're going for realism all that needs to be blathered in oil... :-)

Yep planning to drive to Scotland in it tomorrow!

Your right that it bears no relation to new car smell

The Plymouth has been annoying me intensely recently. I started with 3 problems; the brakes, the transmission and cooling system. I've bled them and bled the the brakes and get a good hard pedal but when I started the car the pedal drops almost to the floor and I get virtually zero brakes. I decided to disconnect the power brake booster and run them as manual brakes. I also made a bracket to attach the pedals more firmly to the firewall. I've yet to test out this new configuration due to the next problem

The transmission has been leaking from the pan ever since I changed the fluid and filter. I hammered the pan as flat and level as I can get it, tried 2 different gaskets and finally resorted to using RTV but it still leaked. In the end I broke down and bought a new pan from Chrysler (actually it's for a Dodge Ram 1500 truck) and a new 1/4" torque wrench and so far it's not leaked in 5 days. Still I've not driven the car due to the final reason.

Cooling system. The car has a '75 440 fitted but with the original 1950 radiator and a measly 4lb pressure cap. Driving the car (what little I have) and the temperature seems to hold ok at around 210F but when I stop the car it rises and eventually boils over. I figured I needed a higher pressure cap to increase the boiling temp but didn't want to stick a 14lb cap on a 65 year old radiator that was designed to run at much lower temperatures.

I decided to buy a shiny new 3 core aluminium one from Champion radiator for just over $220. They're Chinese made but about 1/3 price of US made ones.

Any how took the old one out and put the new one in and noticed 2 problems, Firstly the filler neck on new rad is about 1" taller than the old one and the hood doesn't shut. Secondly the lower coolant connection is in a slightly different place than the old one and the fan on the engine hits it.

In order to make the hood close I decided that I could drop the radiator down about an 1" by cutting away some of the radiator support frame and relocating the transmission cooler lines. Now here's my tip of the week DON'T go to the bar to watch a football game, drink 6 pints then decide to use an angle grinder when you get home. I ended up slicing through the front brake pipe and p1ssing brake fluid everywhere.

I decided to ditch the mechanical fan and install an electric one. Beginning of last week I scored a bargain used Spal brand 16" fan on fleabay for $30 including shipping but as of yet it's not arrived (despite being sold for expedited shipping)

I've got tomorrow off work and if the fan turns up I hope to get the cooling system fulling installed and tested.

Beer and angle grinders!  You're lucky to have got away with just cutting through a bit of car.  I can hear the nuns and kittens exploding from all the way over here.

Just won a 2000 civic 5dr ( rover shape) on eBay for 84 quid ! Mot til July but needs a clutch . Looks tidy with alloys etc . Could well replace the starely as the loan car as its starting to looks a bit scruffy to send customers out in .

I've been looking at old holiday snaps. Do you reckon this would still have lifted up if started? I was dying to try it.

I decided I needed a winter hack, so I bought the rustiest Rover 25 I've seen in a while, for a whopping £132. I cured the shite running that made it cheap by replacing a ruined intercooler pipe. Total cost £34. Just hoping it doesnt dissolve before spring arrives.

(fruit machine) Wedge it in the back of a SE6 scimitar and go for a brisk drive.

Sellotape a Disney frozen sign on the top. Then claim it is a multifunctional edutainment toy.

Not only does it improve hand eye coordination it works at key skills such as maths (odds) and reading (the not to be used by anyone under 18 sign).

Add in the IT skills reprogramming it and effectively it is better than going to school and is definitely* suitable for the kids corner.

As said by and education professional.

The kids will love that, flashing lights and buttons to press without a pub landlord getting shirty.

Can teach them about losing money in bandits too!

Tell them it's a savings bank. If she continues to be unimpressed, I'll send you my eBay purchased while pissed list. She'll see it could have been much worse.

John, make sure you do the fluids on the Sierra before she gets home, ok? I can't estimate how long you may be in hospital for.
