I doubt you would drive it if were actually dangerous but the mot has to draw lines somewhere ( in yellow chalk usually ) as well as catering for idiots that would drive with major dangerous issues

Well, I was driving it until the MOT ran out, even though I knew the floor had holes in it.

A traffic cop could still condemn an MOT exempt car, just the same as an MOTed car.

Given that I've not been stopped by a copper since about 1997, the chances would seem remote.

And all coppers check are lights and tyres . Dad got pulled over once in my old chevette and the copper started looking at tyres etc . Dad said that there is a jack in the boot if you want to check any safety stuff like bearings and brakes etc . That went down like a dose of clap I can tell you

Thinking man's R8. I think they were even built at Longbridge.

Yup. Oddly, French got a Honda Concerto diesel which was just a Rover R8 bar the badges.

My sister's W reg fiesta is going to the bridge, despite only having 71 k on the clock and a very good body.

The clutch has gone and it has a misfire.

Shame, but such is life.

Went to a local car meet with Mike today and did that thing where I took far too many photographs.  I SAW A PRINCESS.  It gave me a sad because it was so lovely and mine isn't.

It's a 4 speed auto 1.6 16v. Drives lovely box is super smooth however the change to 3rd the revs rise ever so slightly. But only for about 0.2 secs and it does the same on every upshift to 3rd. All gears engage lovely no thuds or anything.

Don't know if it's just cos I have not driven a old school auto for a while.

The bodywork is pretty much immaculate. 4 good Michelin tyres and has been garaged all its life.

Interior is the same, original stereo, they had a new halfords battery fitted last month and couldn't find the code, so that's on the list of jobs.

That Rhonda looks bloody lovely and would be worth hanging on to for its mintyness.

Good news; ECP supplied the CORRECT caliper slider pins. Done one side and it was lovely.

Bad news; sound proofing foam is trying to murder the bottom of the wing so today will be spent rust proofing.

Can you not sell one of your other cars instead, or maybe hide one of your cars inside another car and tell the management that you sold one?

You've got proper floor mats in yours in all! I iz WELL JEL.

I love these old giffer/gifferess cars that are kept clean, tidy with all the extras and kept garaged/cleaned.

Got bored. Bought a broken car. I now own a Ford Fusion 1.4tdci with a fooked turbo. At keast I knew this one was broken...

Hopefully will get it fixed up and sold on to make a few quid, we shall see.

It drove OK on the way home bar the lack of boost and smokiness.

Sensible opton is Upullit for a new turbo. I quite fancy trying a rebuild though-kits are available on ebay.

Behold the majesty

Today I have been taking a wall to the tip, there seems to have been some sort of Classic car run/rally on around here so have seen lots of MGs, a Gilbern, a Cobra, a Stag, a DB5 (in blue not Bond silver) and several E types (pale yellow seemed the favourite colour).  When I came home I went in the garage to have sit in the A35, as nobody seems to want to buy it I shall try to get the brakes sorted and hopefully sort out somewhere to keep it.

Drive it day trip to Basildon Park with the Citroen Traction Owners club. I was allowed in too (they told the gate my traction wouldn't go this morning so came in the 2CV). We were allowed to park on the front lawn in front of the house.

The adult visitors liked the tractions, but the children liked the 2CV better!

NB. for film fans, it is the location of pride and prejudice (and the new pride, prejudice and zombies), downton abbey interior shots and adverts like privelige insurance with nigel havers and Joanna Lumley.

I'll check the model of the turbo and get a kit ordered up.

By the way, this is what passes for a turbo these days. I'll need to do a side by side comparison with the Mercs one...

In a further bid to own at least every barge I clap eyes on, today has saw the demise of the SportKa from the fleet and the reintroduction of another German.

I enquired about this car at the beginning of the month but the seller said he had just filled it up with pez, it was his only taxed and insured motor and he didn't wanna take the hit losing a months tax by selling. Fair enough.

We made contact with each other again yesterday and conveniently me and the missus were passing the guys home on a return trip from our day out. A plan was hatched.

It's very technologically advanced ... For 1995...

Yes that is a genuine 54k miles. Pretty much a new car in my book

The car itself is a 1995, 730i Auto. V8 engines im these and very nice it is too. It drives superb and I'm now debating whether I really need this AND the XJ8. My head says I do need both.

Although think the 5 series definitely had a few too many pies as well

Car count as of today-

5 x BMWs

2 x Vauxhalls

2 x Mercs

1 x Volvo

1 x Jaguar

5x bmws? I don't think your signature has kept up! That's a really low miler, one owner from new?

Posted

Signature mended 8)

Unfortunately it's not a 1 owner car, but it is indeed a very very low miler. It's in pretty good nick throughout, interior needs some cleaning up simply due to the colour but it is immaculate and still smells fairly new as well. Definitely a keeper this one, its just a debate whether I can justify keeping the Jag as well - it would be nice to have both...

Had a bit of a rubbish weekend from a shite-fettling perspective.  Did some more paint stripping on the A35, and fitted the replacement boot lid that Angrydicky gave me and which is somewhat straighter than the one that was on there.  I didn't get far fitting the doors as the door hinge screws seemed rather more reluctant to come out than the boot hinge ones, and being Philips I didn't want to chew them up, so might need a rethink (or a better fitting screwdriver).

This afternoon I finished sanding down the arches on the Perodua, and went over one of them in primer.  It quickly became apparent that there's no way I'm going to get anything approaching a decent finish using normal primer, so I'm going to have to fork out for a can of high-build stuff.  Of course by then all the motor factors were closed, so that'll have to be put off until next weekend.

Next job was to investigate why the nearside sidelights (front & rear) on the Volvo have stopped working.  Bulbs were fine, couldn't see any loose wiring or dodgy-looking contacts on the switch side or on the light units themselves, so I'm a bit stumped for now.  Might have to bodge them by running a wire across from the offside.  Unfortunately, while playing around with the lights and indicators, I managed to break off the left column stalk, which I wasn't best pleased about.  There's a couple of 164s being broken on eBay so I might send a couple of emails and see if I can bag a second hand one.

The Spacy has decided that its headlight motor is going to work.  Once.  So the light is now retracted, which makes it look a lot better in daylight but renders it utterly useless at night.  I haven't had a chance to dismantle the front end to get at the motor - it's rather more awkward with the headlight down - so that'll be another job for next weekend.

I took the MG for a brief spin in honour of Drive It Day.  I also went for a longer drive in the Subaru van, which is sort of a classic in its own way.  Didn't see a huge amount of old stuff out and about, but probably more than last year - 1x Moggy van, 2x Mk2 Jags and 2x Volvos (one Amazon and one 1800ES).  Oh, and two Minis.

Maybe stating the bleeding obvious but have you checked the fuse? It's likely to have a separate fuse for each side.

^^

The benefit of only having three cars is that it's only ever possible for three cars to be broken!

I have not seen a single classic car today, other than a C-reg Brazilian VW Type 2 that's always in town. Bit depressing. Did have a nice run out in the XM this evening though. Overall, a bit meh.
