If its the same as the convertible, theres a module under the passenger seat that can get wet if there's water ingress.

Got collared by a colleague at work this morning (the one with the doom blue 1.6 pez Zafira).

Its shit it's coilpack or a spark plug on him on the way in this morning. Eml light flashing and mega misfiring.

I don't have a code reader, so couldn't immediately help bar send him an ebay link to a £25 coilpack. I've had it happen on the meriva we had with the same engine and my mate with the mondeo had identical issue when one of hi plugs worked loose. He said he would phone the aa and get them to come out but (luckily) I was in all day meetings and left for the car from a meeting room so forgot to ask him how he got on.

I did tell him to order it and a set of plugs and if the car survives until Friday fit them in the car park. Might teams him and see how he got on now I'm safely at home far away 😂

He did have the aa out to the office. It was the coil pack. His next message was that they changed it for a new Delphi one and charged him for it 😬 I was braced for a big figure but he said he's found the same Delphi one for £106 online and the Aa charged him £160 all in, I dont think that's too awful. It's not the £25 used ones I was sending him links for but also he wouldn't have had it fixed ready to drive home 🤷

Aa chap pulled the plugs too and said they were fucked. Colleague declined those from him but on my direction is picking up 4 tomorrow from the gsf around the corner from his house and I'll fit them Thursday for him at lunch. If the plugs are fucked that won't be helping the coil pack at all

@paulplom some neighbours have this at £2500

Low mileage but I suspect due a cambelt so the price will have some movement.

They're really nice little cars, my missus is very pleased with hers despite hers being a later one with all the MHEV crap which has gone wrong

Ah so this is why the road to Loosdrecht was closed this afternoon! Someone had a bit too much fun and not enough skill, and redecorated a front garden.

Scirocco passed its MOT today - and they tweaked up the rattling back box that I asked them to do ages ago, and which recently started rattling again.

More MOT fun looming - MrsDC's Yaris is due to go through tonight at 7pm.

Unlike previous years where I've suddenly decided to rebuild the front suspension two hours before testing time, MrsDC has been busy over the past few weeks methodically replacing the broken arch liners and undertrays, renewing the tired old braking components, and giving the cloudy headlights a good going-over with that Meguiars stuff.

The fun* thing about a test in the evening is being able to see your noble chariot passing along the production line, as it were...

Just about, anyway.

Poking and prodding time. This is the bit we're most concerned about. 😬

Now's about the time that I feel it ought to have emerged at the other end, and the fact it hasn't is because they must be inputting 117 separate fail points before coming to tell me I'll be walking home.

Catastrophising, moi?

Ladies and gentlefolx, we have a pass!

IMG-20251015-WA00012.jpeg.dcf21e9b83cba95e28860a6a1064fac7.jpeg

A mere 2% handbrake imbalance, after all the faffing about in previous years, is a particularly sweet victory - last year it scraped a pass the second time round with a 29% handbrake imbalance, even after a garage had a go at sorting it.

In fact, looking at all its previous fail sheets and pass certificates, these are far and away the best recorded figures for service brake and handbrake efficiency and balance we've ever had.

Another year out of the clutches of T-Met, hopefully.... and now into its third decade.

Good result for the little cockroach.

Whew!

Well, that would be last years advisories not done by previous owner despite me finding a receipt for them. That or really cheap and nasty parts used.

£675 later the Renault was done yesterday. There's 5mm of tread across the centre 3/4 of the rear tyres, I think they were on the front at some point. Turns out steering rack boots are a PITA to find, not even the nearest Renault dealer had one in stock. They tried about 5 suppliers until they found an equivalent. So for a bottom arm, inner and outer track rods changed, both front wheel bearings, 4 wheel alignment I don't think that was too steep.

Most of this I could have done except I'm in the middle of a bout of dreadful flu. Wheel bearings could have been one of 4 O/Ds, the balljoint is available separately but the one of the car was riveted on (as is the current nearside one).

I'm hoping to get the most out of this car, I still think we got a bargain at £1200 with plenty of them on forecourts for £2k+. Just hoping it doesn't do a French and shit its electrics.

No I had no chest pain and the last LF test we had showed negative. It's probably 'Freshers flu'. The new term at the uni where my wife works started a couple of weeks back, a few thousand students from all over the place bring a plethora of germs and nasties with them.

Either that or, or I picked it up in the theatre last weekend.

I remember freshers flu, had it really bad. Fortunately I'd made friends by then who looked after me

I was very generous - I caught Freshers Chickenpox.
Gave it to my room mate (who ended up in hospital with it).
Got send home.
Dad picked me up in his Toledo.
Gave him chickenpox too.

Talking of chickens @dozeydustman - chicken soup and a couple of DVD box sets (or whatever they have these days) recommended - get well soon.

Replaced the battery in the Superb today. Far more of a faff than it should be. Remember when a battery change took 5 minutes? Now it’s remove two parts of a three part casing, then disconnect a breather and sensor, so you can get to the clamp, with 2 extensions, then remove its cozy foam jacket. Then, once replaced, try and get the three part casing back together, with the foam body warmer back in place, clear all the fault codes thrown up by flat battery and take it down the road to clear the warning lights. Not as bad as a late model Ford Galaxy maybe, or an R56 Bini but still a bit of a ball ache. Anyway, normal service now resumed. Glad it wasn’t pissing down!

Doesn't look like good news on the Delta.

Screenshot_20251016-082700.png.37e8ae358180719299758a7eefa4fcf3.png

And they say it needs an £1800 gearbox rebuild too.

Hmmm, probably won't do that.
