The dead 850 is getting taken away tomorrow morning. It's been sat going mossy outside my kitchen window for more than twice as long as I had it on the road.

Once it gets light today I have a couple of bits I need to get out of it, then I'll be done with it. I know I could sell bits off of it and make more than just scrap, but at this point I just need it gone, I need to move on from that chapter of my life.

I wish I'd done it last year, the scrap prices offered back then were far better. Best quote I could get this time was £165 with the caveat that they can reduce it based on whatever. Honestly at this point I'd be happy taking the plates off and rolling it down a hill.

Out and about in the E46 helping my mum this morning before work. After dropping her off I was pressing on, so to speak and the ABS, traction control and red brake light came on and hasn't cleared on restart. Doesn't seem to affect anything (apart from making it very easy to light up the rear without TC being on!) and importantly  the gearbox light remains off so that's good.

I may have to cave and order a code reader for this car as I'm actually quite enjoying it now!

Drove out the street and all the lights went off again. I'd say that confirms the theory that they only drift out when making satisfactory * progress on a private test track* above 70mph.

So under normal conditions it's never going to he an issue!

Treat it as an inbuilt speed limit warning 😂 "ooh lights come on, best dial it back a few"

I've been to this the last two years and its really good but the best part is , if you book into the pre 2000 classic car show display you get free entrance to the event, for either or even both days.  The car show bit is pretty decent on its own let alone the classic racing and display cars.   Some pictures of last year's show as temptation

28/29th June. You have to book in your car and wait for approval but last year I mailed them a week before to change from the Panda to the XM and they weren't bothered so long as its pre 2000

It would be interesting to see how these fit. I had a pair of Tom Hobbs ones fitted 3 years ago and they are generally regarded as the best in Rover circles, mine certainly fitted without needing bashed about. But, as they are hand made, you can't always get them, so it's great that someone else is making them. I'll share this link on the 75 FB page!

Well, as I expected, posting on Rover 75 pages generated replies from clueless and confused diddies who don't read or understand things properly before replying. Honestly, about 80% of 75 lickers must live in a world of shit.

Yep, I sold one a parking sensor ecu and loom and 4 sensors for cheaper than the cheapest lone ecu on ebay and the cheeky cunt still complained one of the sensors was faulty.  I'll skip the last lot of 75 bits if that's how it's going to go.  I only took £20 for the lot in the first place!

Bit of an odd theft, especially as its not been found after a few days. Hopefully it turns up.

I reckon the first time the thieves experience the lift-off oversteer they'll shit themselves and abandon it there and then.

This was a few days ago but stripped down the new project to figure out what the horrible rattle was on idle. New parts arrived today and this was the side by side shot

Popped over to see an old now-retired work colleague in Worcester, we popped to Evesham for a few games of pool. On the way back I decided to get the tracking on the Vectra looked at as one of the old tyres appeared to have scrubbed itself bald a few months ago, the tracking was fine, but the tie rods inners and outers in one side left one wheels with a bit of play. The Vectra is due for MoT next week so once that's done, I'll get the tie rods in and fitted.

I noticed that the front fog lights weren't working, it appears that the old garage that I no longer use when messing up the air-con pipework/rad hadn't re-plugged them back in. The tyre garage noticed the wire and asked me if I wanted it plugged back in which I did, but I'd forgot the other side. When I got home I checked them and one side worked, so I felt about for the other wire and tried to plug it back in by feel. I'm quite fat and unfit so rolling about on the road (well, my rubber floor mat) can quite uncomfortable, but with a reference point by taking a picture showed me how near the plug was and I managed to get it back in and both fog lights working again.

I'm going to back the cars to the end of the drive away from the area where roof tiles might fall, although given the wind strength, they'll probably be flying in all directions.

A Class 37 TRIPLE HEADER just rumbled past my back garden. Hearing one whilst sitting in my armchair on my lunch break and all I have to do is turn round to see it makes me glad I live where I live. I'll miss it when we move (hopefully this year).

This is the first time a price has given me anxiety by being too low, but the 4A-FE camshaft had way too much lift (7mm extra!) so I'm running out of options. 13502-15020 is the grind for the carb'd engine and 13502-15030 is the grind for the injected one with the extra lift.

I've ordered a few tins of paint with which to paint my kitchen. The walls are really quite grim as it stands, particularly in the corner where there used to be a boxed in hot water tank. When they took that out they just filled the holes in the wall and left it as is. The landlord doesn't seem to give a shit since it's safe and all that. He said I can do whatever decorating I want as long as I do it to a decent standard. I'll likely also do some tiling in there later this year, but painting is top priority. I also got a tin of blackboard paint so I can have a big chalkboard for scheduling and whatnot.

I'm borrowing brushes and rollers and whatnot from mum, so don't need to buy any of that. Total for the paint came to £50 including delivery, which I think is quite reasonable for massively cheering up the kitchen.

Somebody else mentioned the Bratislava Transport Museum a couple of months ago but I can't remember who it was now. Well I found myself in Bratislava last week so I thought it would be rude not to pop in.

A line of early Tatras

IMG_20250114_123831.thumb.jpg.dbf6bba197e8b0177665756e3e318c0e.jpg

And a Škoda IMG_20250114_123912.thumb.jpg.5461783601c34f3dbcece7192b646bd0.jpg

A nice collection of models, I think about 1/24 scale.

IMG_20250114_124143.thumb.jpg.0d28427dafdec21fcb30bc9aa8a67ee8.jpg

Including some proper Tatras

IMG_20250114_124212.thumb.jpg.fee5a42f99f5bf107b6886c29d422ce4.jpg

And even an Oltcit

IMG_20250114_124153.thumb.jpg.3aaf9443c5f9198a0ab5742cc00a625a.jpg

But on to the really good stuff.

Not many of these in museums yet.

IMG_20250114_130144.thumb.jpg.b3c789ef2a17e3fe82a0afc5844beca5.jpg

But then they had all these things from a company called BAZ, Bratislava Automobile Company. The highlights being these two.

I've seen lots of Škoda prototypes in various books but never this one. Okay so it looks like a Rapid with a revised front

IMG_20250114_130603.thumb.jpg.108a2649780c4c6c1a19edbbbf765185.jpg

But there's a bit more to it than that. I know Škoda themselves built a front engined Estelle using Renault 12 running gear, but this one had a Zastava set up (so Fiat really). One for @IronStar

IMG_20250114_130802.thumb.jpg.06606b3e982692b7532a9a3cc0023a4b.jpg

And round the back where there is no longer an engine, a proper hatchback!

IMG_20250114_130844.thumb.jpg.0b9f4e278680d1fd93547aeb777e7b43.jpg

But the one I most wanted to bring home. As soon as I saw it I could see the Favorit headlights.

IMG_20250114_131834.thumb.jpg.c1771a70ee5d607b1e1f7ae60b042363.jpg

But closer inspection also revealed Favorit seats, dashboard and mirrors. And underneath, a Favorit engine and gearbox. So basically a Favorit van. I never new anything about these and it made my day. Again made in Bratislava by BAZ. Now obviously the Fav mirrors have a Škoda logo embossed in them, so it looks like they just added a bit of filler and painted over them! Brilliant.

Long-time friend and Japanese car enthusiast Peter Hunter of the Toyota Enthusiasts' Club sadly passed away just after Christmas and it was his funeral.

1973 Toyota Crown Estate

Even if you didn't know him those of you who've attended shows at the NEC or in the North-West such as Tatton Park and Cholmondley will have seen this estate, his Crown coupe or the older saloon which was the original press car. He also had an early '70s Corona MkII and I believe an Avensis or two. I first met Peter back in 1993/94 and enjoyed many happy times talking cars, models and brochures with him. A number of other TEC people were at the funeral too, having travelled from as far afield as Scotland and Belgium. The cars were just a part of a long and fulfilling life, and the enthusiasm and energy he had was incredible (and something of an inspiration, on the journey home it made me rethink a few things which I've found challenging in recent times). A remarkable family too, apparently his sister still has an MG Midget and his older brother 37 motorbikes (and that's after some were sold). RIP Peter.

When 'Autoshambles' arrived at Chumley a few years back and some of the more uptight exhibitors didn't want us anywhere near them, it was Peter who cheerfully invited us to make camp alongside the Toyotas.

Top man.  Rest easy, Peter.

But then they had all these things from a company called BAZ, Bratislava Automobile Company. The highlights being these two.

I've seen lots of Škoda prototypes in various books but never this one. Okay so it looks like a Rapid with a revised front

But there's a bit more to it than that. I know Škoda themselves built a front engined Estelle using Renault 12 running gear, but this one had a Zastava set up (so Fiat really). One for @IronStar

And round the back where there is no longer an engine, a proper hatchback!

But the one I most wanted to bring home. As soon as I saw it I could see the Favorit headlights.

Brilliant.

Yes, the original plan was to get to Bratislava earlier, from where I was staying in Brno, then get a random train off in to the Slovakian countryside. But when trying to buy a ticket on the Czech Railways app over hotel breakfast it wouldn't let me. Turns out the bank had cancelled my card overnight. And my other card wouldn't work either.

By the time I'd rung the bank and not sorted things out at all it was two hours later, so I just bought a day return to Bratislava and did touristy things. My other card, which is actually a joint account with Mrs Yoss, would only work chip and pin, not contactless, despite me not having used it at all whilst over there. So I couldn't buy tickets on the go, I had to use ticket offices so it was best to stick to somewhere I had half a chance of finding English speakers.

Turned out better than hoped. As well as the museum I went in to Bratislava and had a mooch about. The old town was really nice. Would definitely go back.

Oh, same spec like my first C5 aside from RHD and blue leather (mine was vanilla, amazing spec). I really still love these.

Make sure to remove the foam block/filth right behind the top of each front wheel arch, they'll rot right through otherwise.
