Toyota Corolla Verso, and it has the worst auto gearbox of any car

the one where you still have too move the gearstick?

I have the day off tomorrow.

But can't decide if I should spend the rest of the day either:

 - welding up the Midget

 - visiting Moretonhampstead Motor Museum

First option gets on with a job that needs doing (nearly finished now!) but it's going to be hitting 28c here.

Second option is because the museum is closing at the end August but I have been before.

Decision decision.

What would you choose?

Sounds a bit hot for welding.

I've got quite a few jobs to do this coming week...

I went and visited the MMM for the first time a couple of weeks ago, as like you I had heard it was closing. I certainly enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The weather forecast is good for tomorrow and probably too hot to be working in PPE inside a garage so take the Spitfire, drop the roof and have a leisurely cross country drive down to Moretonhampstead.

TBF there is a lot of alignment and cutting to do first before I get the back panel on. Some grinding too. But wearing a fire resistant boiler suit in this weather is quite unpleasant.

I guess my aim wasn't to weld it on completely but at least get it tacked into place.

It's this back panel.

I think I've welded in hotter weather and of course there are people out there doing it for a living this whole week without much choice.

I really want to make progress on it. But I don't want to bugger it up from not concentrating.

I tried a 0-60 run in the Merc.  Just flooring it in Drive (without holding it on the brakes or anything fancy like that) it did it in 7.5 seconds.  Given that the "official" time is 6.9 I think it's safe to say that the majority of the original horses are still present and correct, which is reassuring.

Saw what I think was a Talbot Solara this morning at BP in Bagshot. B reg HAW possibly.  Golden brown colour naturally.

My first car was a red Solara Minx. My girlfriend's dad sold it to me (this would be about 98). I never got to drive it because I hadn't passed my test. In the end it went to the Taronis. Pretty sad

It's one of those auto manual things. I don't mind it when it works properly, but it has a horrible habit of jumping out of gear. At which point you have to pull over, shut the whole car off, wait an amount of time that could be anything from 30 seconds to two hours on one memorable occasion and then restart and it might go back into gear.

Not ideal on a fast A road with no shoulder

Sounds almost as good as the Citroën Sensodrive gearbox I've had the misfortune to experience a few times.

Don't you need something a bit bigger than a Verso anyway to accommodate your 87 children?

Two of em have flown the nest. One of them can even drive (got their first car off this here parish). And I've still got my Leaf

No collection thread as @aldo135kindly dropped it off for me.

A big thank you to @RetroShitefor being an unexpected angel investor in the transaction!

We can have a reverse thread. My Volvo has literally “gone to live on a farm”IMG_1678.jpeg.84e3911f8325f48077d316cba17f1e2d.jpeg

@reb took me on the bus back to Cupar where I got the train I’m still on!

Now crossing the Forth bridge looking at the other 2. Been a lovely day for a drive to Fife and train ride back to Edinburgh!

As Robin said thanks to @RetroShite Scott for his help in getting this deal done 👍 a lovely gesture.

Ok, now the universe is just fucking with me.

I thought I'd completely lost the retention certificate for the M plate, but here it is in the place I thought the one for the N plate was.

No physical plates for this one, and I want to put it on the 205 anyway...

Back to raking through paperwork I suppose!

Plates fitted.

The drill I keep in the house decided it didn't want to work anymore, so precision application of a lump hammer and pointy screws made the holes in the cheap ally plates.

It's so nice to see one of these in a nice color and not the usal gray and black.

I seem to have accidentally got one with the same paint code as my friend's P2!

I got bored of the internet for a moment, so decided to do something useful.

Before:

Car interiors can be absolutely disgusting places...

No detergent, just 4l of water run through a vax on two front seats and the driver's side carpet.

Absolutely black water, with about an egg-cup full of mud/sludge at the bottom.

Ewwwww.

Carpet juice, an aquired taste. The sediment dried resembles a truffle.
