The water pump for my S210 came via Evri earlier this week, and I was pleased* to see they're carrying on the Hermes tradition of jumping up and down on every package they deliver, the box was absolutely fucked 🤣

amazingly said lightbulb inside survived the ordealĀ

Currently having a royal battle with them over a package they've lost of mine.Ā  They're claiming it was delivered...and have photographic evidence of that.

Except the photograph is of the parcel being handed to a black guy next to a red front door...all of us in this house are white enough to pass as vampires, and nobody on our street has a red front door...however they are simply remaining adamant that "The parcel was delivered."

well while your there do you think you might be able to fish outĀ  the ThinkPad T43 and Coughtrie CPS16 of mine that they managed to vanish into the void, for me?

Ā

and if it makes you feel better DPD are currently fucking me about, twice now I have been at my computer when I suddenly get a "sorry we missed you" text from them

like fuck you did! no attempt to ring the bell/intercom at all, I get that its 30Kg of lightbulb control gear,Ā but you did accept it so please actually deliver it! and if you really cant get it up the stairs then at least call the intercom so I can comeĀ help or rope a neighbour into helping...

although when someones who's physically disabled has to help you get a parcel up the stairs at expense of their own health/well being thats not a very good showing, looking at you UPS! who tried to pull a similar stuntĀ when I bought the 25A Variac recently, did I mention I hate living 3 stories up in a building with no lift?

*grumble*

Must be a thing for ThinkPads, my parcel that went walkabout was a T460!

Watching an Invacar auction on e bay, very interesting. It’s at almost 5k Ā at the mo; I had noĀ idea what they were worth. Then again ā€˜microcars’ do goĀ for strong money, especially InĀ EuropeĀ so maybe I shouldn’t be suprised. Could be bound for the continent, orĀ maybe an AC completist?

Interesting article on the perils of electric cars. No chargers at holiday resorts which are quiet a lot of the year and then have peak demand over the summer.

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/feb/18/taking-tesla-to-truro-warnings-lack-of-electric-charging-points

Great way to make silly money - strap a big old diesel generator to a flatbed and tour Devon fleecing owners who can't find a charger this summer...

I'll stick to my diesel banger...

Exciting day... putting the mud flap on the dad wagon with next size up screws and some washers after council contractors mowed the grass and have no idea how it fell off

Not really car related, apart from a drive up to oxford and back, but my 10year old niece is impressed with my balancing skills. Obviously not a very productive day but did alowĀ my sister and brother in law to get on with their own stuff. Added bonus is take home madeleines and raspberry muffins!

Wasn’t sunny for me, windy, drizzle all day.

I did some car washing today, the Lada first as it’s not had a wash in my ownership:

With all the rust and chipped paint it’s hard to see an improvement, but at least you don’t get dirty hands from touching it now, just tetanus.

More satisfying was washing the E320 CDI, as it was plastered in general diesel filth and road dirt:

That should scare the neighbours a bit less now.

Best result of the day is that my partner has driven the E Class and has declared that she loves it! There’s still a few little bits to sort and more tidying to be done, but at least she can start using it now.

Last night I watched 22 miles with Mark Wahlberg on C4. He only tried to escape in a Rexton!

The ā€˜goona clocked up 170,000 miles yesterday. It got to 169,999 as I approached home so I drove around the block to round the number.

I do like this car.Ā

After the 940 let us down the day before the holiday we ended up taking the wife’s EV on holiday to Devon last summer.

Absolutely no problem at all, no issues chargingĀ and cost a quarter of the money it would have cost in petrol. Don’t believe every scaremongering article you read.Ā

The TransSport has been laid up since October as it started misfiring in September, and it was really too bad to attempt going far. Knowing it was coming off the road for winter anyway I didn’t bother investigating thinking I’d leave it til spring.

Today I put a few litres of fresh fuel and some injector cleaner in, and wondered if it would start… quick go of the boost pack and away he fired first time.Ā

No misfire when cold, but the warmer it gets the more it misfires. I’m guessing coil or leadsĀ Does the hive mind agree?

Its parked in the same spot as my old 900 was… and seems to have inherited the same furry friends…

They didn’t nibble anything in the engine bay last time… I hope that’s the case again this time!Ā

I guess heat indicates coils going bad? Plug wires are easily measured for differing resistance.

Spark would be my thought.Ā  A lean mixture needs a hotter spark to ignite, so if it's weak it will worsen as the engine warms up and the mixture is leaned out.

Mwuhahaha, they're everywhere!

I notice you said tried to escape. That would be correct, you aren't going anywhere fast in a Rexton.

Yes I suppose it depends on where you go and when -and the specific demand at that point.Ā It's certainly a possible challenge getting enough chargers to meet spikes in demand - but yes of course you are right, we'll see.

All this kit needs daily maintenance as well as initial capital cost on set-up - it depends where that comes from in the public demesne. Certainly a lot of councils will not be in a position to procure this unless through a third-party provider.

I think the country needs to get serious about charger installation. The article raises some interesting points about how disconnected (no pun intended) the process has been at the moment.Ā

Having been part of some major infrastructure delivery teams (both roads and railways) there are a lot of practical issues to resolve to get this roll-out. It appears some need planning permission which is often fraught.

I would expect some nasty situations at charge points if there are not enough at any given point - the sort of thing the tabloid press gleefully report.

Our local Tesco has gone over to majority self-service tills - half were not working today and massive queues. A very very ugly atmosphere at the check-out and almost a fight.
