These generally go together and have ruined many an organisation....

Here's a nice juxtaposition...

Same location, same manufacturer. Different model, different season.

Fitted a new coil pack and leads to the roffle win golf today, hoping it solves the rough idle when it's hot as my account is now £140 lighter.

Also found a blow in the centre section of the exhaust so that'll be next on the list 😞

I then fixed an intermittent airbag light on my daughters civic by removing the bulb, it'll do for now :D

I can now has work bench.

Admittedly it needs a big fuck off vice, and it's in the cellar.

End of an era for me today.

Last day at my current job, after nearly 16 years doing it. Went in this morning and met up with the rest of the team (socially distant of course!) at a good burger van for a final chat, cup of tea and a massive bacon and sausage roll! Then said our farewells and I took my van back to the depot to hand it, my company phone and tools back.
Bit of a weird experience really after so long.
I’ll certainly miss the other guys and much of the hands on job itself, but I just can not stand the management and bullshit side of it any more so it’s all done without any regrets. Which I suppose proves I was right to go.

Taking a few months off to get some stuff sorted and relax a bit, but after that? Fuck knows what I’m going do!

All the best with ventures new Dan!

Honestly, I properly hate my job, I've been doing it for 20 years now and in all likelihood I'll still be doing it in 20 years time, basically because mortgage/family/responsibilities makes it genuinely very difficult to do anything else.

The last job I left by choice was my apprenticeship with Layland-Daf in 1999- I remember it being a genuinely liberating/exciting time.

If it's in the cellar all you need now is a big fuck-off wine rack...

Although  it was only an advisory, the Corsa was leaking a little more oil than I was comfortable with. Spotting on the drive in a random pattern indicated that it was probably the rocker cover gasket. New one arrived quickly and I fitted it yesterday. Hopefully  it works, haven't had the chance to go for a drive yet.

Treated it to a polish and wax also.

Not much progress on the Cavalier. The garage have done nothing more than has already been tried. They fitted new spark plugs which weren't needed and of course made no difference to the emissions.

So the plan is, they do the bit that they can do and which I cannot, which is the welding. Some investment in the car will pique my own motivation to complete the project also.

I will then take it back and do the rest. I now have a methodical list of things to work through with my new multimeter. I'm going to start off by checking the timing, if its out that may explain a few of the issues and I will be replacing the belt anyway as its well overdue. I also want to test the resistance at the multiplugs for some of the sensors in case there is a brittle wire somewhere. I have a spare pair of good headlights to resolve the beam pattern issue as well.

Thank goodness the lighter nights are coming in!

DIY'ing the belt? No idea on complexity but I imagine it's pretty simple on them.

Clocks change next weekend, so an extra hour of day light in the evenings. Getting a lot warmer too!

That's sad to hear, but a familiar experience.

It only took me 10 months with a certain large telecomms provider to jack it in for the same reasons. I loved being out and about in the van, but didn't love being actively harassed by managers for absolutely nothing!

Numerous times I'd be in an active set of roadworks at the side of the road and get a phonecall just for my manager to shout at me for not participating enough in a meeting a fortnight ago. That's a genuine example! Not answering just angered them even more.

What the fuck's happened to management in companies the past few years?

Progressive mismanagement. Been going on a lot longer than the last few years.

Passat servicing day. I've even bought a pollen cabin filter for the first time ever.

Wish me luck...

Thinking about it. Just as long as the waterpump isn't seized on the block or the tensioner bolt hasn't been horsed up to 1000000nm. If that's the case I'll just whack a belt on and get the rest done later.

This idea of filling the fuel filter didn't really work, I spilled loads and maybe got the filter half full.

Nevermind. Service done, just got the track rod end to do now another day.

I woke the BX from its winter slumbers today and took it for a run. I stopped for petrol and when I went in to pay the cashier greeted me like a long lost brother. "Hey, good to see you! How's the car? I've been hoping you'd come in again, we did a stock take a few months ago and found an old bottle of LHM which I've kept for you."

Been investigating rust on the nearside of the Jag. Found some! I'm hoping this is the worst side😂IMG_20210320_150329367.thumb.jpg.c9896ac9c3bfc73ee7d4441d4fd0160b.jpgIMG_20210320_143618701.thumb.jpg.cc2eca7151271484bf954c0975f51f96.jpgIMG-20210320-WA0011.thumb.jpeg.cb4a47c24d2c1f872f31fc0c3ac8d20a.jpegIMG_20210320_135413728.thumb.jpg.6e0cd4a01d27512de42b1ed85e24d08b.jpg

Fitted new brake pads to the C180 this morning. Sadly the new ones didn't come with the wear sensor, so I still have the annoying 'Brake Wear - Visit Workshop' when I fire it up.

A new sensor has been ordered, as the MOT is due at the end of the month.

The last pads I fitted were on the Jazz and Focus, both of which had seized parts, especially the Jazz, with bolts rounding off etc. That was a newer car with half the miles.

The Mercedes looks pretty healthy underneath, although after a wash, the rear aches are suffering after a very salty winter.

got a rubbing squealing sound from the front offside on full left lock ...  ????????

the flexi brake pipe had popped out of its holder and was rubbing its protection ring on the tyre .

got home and stripped it down and a corresponding rub mark was found around the inside of the tyre ..pipe was ok

glued pipe back into its holder with some silicon , and waved the underseal brush at the front end ......

fingers crossed .....

kerry took the softtail motorcycle off for its mot. it started straight up, no messing, and passed with no issues.

which is nice for a 30-something year old motorcycle.

the other bike, the sportster, behaved just how we expected it to, by not starting at all.

it did at least turn over, which is more  than i was expecting out of it!

then with the bikes out, we turnedour attention to Marvin the Metro, which has not been touched since its test in september 2019.

i reconnected the battery, gave the key a turn, and bugger me, the car started!!

wasn't expecting that. still i did back the car out, and its nose is on the floor, the front axel is on the bump stops.

shit. i mean i knew it was low, but not that low its in the weeds!

so, i have done the only "sensible" thing, and arranged for someone to come and replace the displacers and rear link pipe with refurbished, regassed ones.

this is going to cost more than the car is worth..... cos i iz idiot!

but at least then, i can think about getting it tested, and then either use it, maybe.

Just over an hour ago I saw MrsR off in an ambulance with chest pain.  In another hour or so I can phone the hospital and see how she's doing.

I'm bricking.

Went with my friends at college to go on a walk. Took the car as it's cold and the location is 15 minutes away. After a few junctions and slowing from 40 to 0 a couple of times, the car then stank of brake material like never before. I have a sneaking suspicion that means I should probably replace the front brake pads as they're almost definitely the original ones from when the car was sold. So long as I don't do many more journeys in the next week or so, I think I'll be fine.

I've phoned the hospital.  She's had some tests and is awaiting the results, ring again in about an hour.  Thanks for the reactions, everyone.
