The new news 24 thread

Another Citroen GSA has floated into my peripheral at tempting money. But that's only any good if I sell something first, and the main issue there is that I don't want to sell anything. DILEMMA. I'm already two cars over the four car limit, and a looming tax bill means I can't really just go for it.

insured the galaxy today, £600 no claims but 10% discount due to using same insurer, me and the missus

What the fuck is going on with the grumpy and grin threads?

Obviously deemed too much none motoring related in them so off they went........ new ones for car related...... it looks like.

A warning or post inadvance 24hrs? would've made it a bit less 'disruptive' - but not too hard to grasp.

A decision was made years ago to keep the grin & grumpy threads on the main board - presumably because certain contributors with a weak constitution didn't want to sully themselves by going into the off-topic area.

This was a strange decision, but one we've all got used to.

I don't think anyone was expecting the threads to be duplicated for motoring / non-motoring in both boards though. It makes sod-all sense to me.

Tax bill paid, which has helped focus my mind. I shall be sensible.

SWMBO still uses Amway 'LOC' to get rid of stains on clothes - works surprisingly well.

Came up North last night as it's MOT time and I need to do a couple of bits of non testable welding for appearances sake and a few bits and bats. Not bad weather till junction 28 on the M1 then snow. Woke up feeling like it was going to be a British version of ice road truckers but there's only 1/2" or so.

Suns out now so I've swept my working area and I'm waiting for it to dry out.

I'm sick of January MOTs I'm going to test it again in September I think to avoid this crap.

Had the CB on all the way up seems much more chat up above maybe J15 on the M1. Thought I would mention that as someone asked if they were still used much recently

Looking like I may be able to rent a garage and not cost too much either. Going to have a quick view outside tonight and if it generally looks ok, I'll get the keys to have another look inside. I guess as long as its dry and reasonably secure it'll be a go'er. Its only a 10-15 minute walk from home too, so very practical and the garages are part of a retirement flat building - so I guess its hopefully less likely for trouble makers/kids wanting to have a bit of "fun" at my expense with my car + stuff.

Told Mrs SiC and her response was:

Oh thats handy! Give me my ring and you can have a car! X

Rolls eyes

Admittedly a ring is a bit cheaper (well what she wants is) than another car. :P

Phone her up, say you bought a car and she said to ring her...

No. It only seems cheaper to start with.

£65 for a set of hilux pads ! I don’t think so . Their sales are just bringing things down to normal prices

I took a trip across the bridge today, with the stripped C3 Pluriel body shell. Even with no engine, gearbox, interior or roof gubbins it still weighed in at 800 kilos. I was only expecting to get 40 or 50 quid, however I was pleased to have £112 transferred from EMR to my account.

Value of scrap has certainly increased, last time I weighed a car in was more than two years ago and I struggled to get 40 quid for a Metro.

So had a wander up to where it would be. Closed up so couldn't see inside but I can pay a £10 deposit and get keys to take a look. Only irritating thing is that it's in front of a parking area and there is a yellow cross hatched area. The garage next to it has a hand written sign saying it's in use, so I suspect people park in front when it's busy.

Even though that one was locked, a neighbouring one was open so I took a quick look inside.

Basically as you expect a garage! It backs onto a pile of soil, so I was worried about damp a bit. The asbestos roof had marks of where sealant was between the pieces. That wet looking mark at the back didn't feel wet, so not sure what could have caused it. I did wonder if it might have just something on a shelf back there that was spilt or even some car exhaust spewing out crap.

These sectional jobs that are backed onto earthbanks or soil accumulation will leech the water in through the joints and puddle on the floor.   Trouble is, you don't always see the water until a couple of days after a downpour.    Mine does this.   I blagged a massive PVC tarp from work and use it as a floor covering, pulling back the ends after any significant rainfall.   It dries out quite quickly....

I am an eBay twat !

I was idly looking at my watch list yesterday while waiting for a guy to turn up and collect a set of tyres, I shoved my phone in my pocket when he arrived. Five minutes later, I received an email advising me that I had successfully purchased and paid for an item and it is waiting to be despatched :(

Of all the items in my watch list, at least it chose something useful - an obd scanner - thank fuck it wasn't something more expensive - I must have fumbled the buttons in my pocket somehow :)
