SiC Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 OH MY GOD! After the MGB incident I took the Civic into work. Serviced just yesterday and it never lets me down. Got past Colston School, exactly where the MGB started playing up, a scraping noise came from the nearside wheel on the Civic. Pulled over, had a quick look (I'd just changed after getting dirty earlier too) and couldn't see anything. Set off again and it got louder and louder. Pulled in again, couldn't see anything. Gave a wiggle of the disc brake shields just in case. Annoyed at this point I pulled off aggressively. *PING* Scraping noise gone. I suspect it was a stone. At least I hope it was. I was almost at the point of dumping the car by the side of the road and ordering an Uber in. Stanky, Shep Shepherd and clayts450 3
JeeExEll Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 Autoshite enthusiast formerly known as Capree reporting under new name. No real reason for name change, just fancied a change. My Capri days are in the distant past (V6s in the late 80s and early 90s) and that's not likely to change soon now. Prefer now to leave the name for those who currently own Capris. Still have a strong interest in the 70s Fords, hence GXL reference. All the best for 2018. catsinthewelder, Shep Shepherd, clayts450 and 6 others 9
puddlethumper Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 I had what could be the shortest meeting with an Autoshiter today. Sitting in a queue at a red light and the driver of the chod behind leaped out and legged it round to my door."Hi, I saw the autoshite sticker, you must be Puddlejumper"."Yep, that's me"."I'm Heidelkakao"Then he was gone coz the lights changed.Good to meet you HD. Hopefully next time we might progress further. Angrydicky, Skizzer, Noel Tidybeard and 31 others 34
taxi paul Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 Went to Tesco in st Helens today. Police everywhere. It seems that some chap gave his Bentley to the east European valeting chaps. Upon finishing said Bentley and while parking it back up the cleaner pressed the wrong pedal and crashed into seven cars. Also knocked over an old chap putting his shopping in boot. He is ill in hospital. Hope he recovers. But insurance nightmare ensuing I think. billyboy406v6 1

richardmorris Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 Good news is that the woodlands lane bridge over the m3 is now finished and open after 14months! I felt like driving back and forth over it to make a point. The bad news is I came home from work at lunchtime as I was feeling sick and dizzy. Have had a cold all week with a temperature and now I seem to have flu. Just got up from 9hours in bed and do feel better. I wouldn’t mind feeling rotten after partying at Christmas, but the last drink was a sole pint on Monday.

oldcars Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 Not really autoshite at all but i have just been a run in a Tesla model X. That thing is quick off the mark in ludicrous mode. You can move it with your iphone. Open and close doors from the tablet thing in the dash. Back to reality in a bit away out in the Reliant. dome, egg and DeeJay 3
wuvvum Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 The Audi made it the 250 miles to Somerset yesterday. It didn't do its weird throttle thing until I was climbing the long hill to my parents' place, despite getting stuck in an almighty traffic jam near Oxford when the M40 was closed so all the traffic coming from Bucks and Northants got directed down the B something-or-other through Middleton Stoney, which has as its only apparent interesting feature a set of traffic lights which let through half a dozen cars at a time. The M5 was clear though, greatly to my surprise given the omgtrafficchaos everyone was predicting yesterday. BorniteIdentity 1
tooSavvy Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 ...which has as its only apparent interesting feature a set of traffic lights which let through half a dozen cars at a time.We used to have a magnificent* roundabout, at the bottom [coast end] of the Coast road - here on North Tyneside. The Coast rd is a dual carriage/expressway (Mway straight & fast!) and traffic piled into this roundabout like a RealWorld braketest!! After much consideration [*rounds of golf freebies from Lodge M8s] an assessment came up with LIGHTS!! of course TBH joining from 'other' access roads [with rushhour flow priority around the old rbt] was 'life in your hands' diving in. NOW.. otoh.. Everyone sits for like hours whilst a 'one side at a time' lights routine works through + Green Man for prams/bikes/horses Progress TS

It’s not too bad usually and a good way up to the m40 from oxford avoiding the a34/m40 roundabout.

The backplates seem to be a kinda 2 part thing with a flimsy dust sheild spot welded onto a stronger inner section the handbrake shoes mount on. At £196 a pair they're not getting replaced anytime soon.

Asimo Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 xmas present for black mini arrived. its a period bit of tat suitable for a 1974 car. DSCN6841.JPGDSCN6840.JPGDSCN6843.JPG never seen one of these before, Kerry remembers them from back in the day. I was a pump boy back in '74 and I HATED those damn things. The keys and cylinders seize, they would get fitted on the piss and jam, refuse to refit at all: "you took it off so you put it back", the tabs get razor sharp and cut my freezing cold, petrol dissolved fingers. etc etc etc They actually worked better on Minis than most because a Mini's fuel filler is at the perfect height and angle. But when they were used on Marinas down inside that stupid little hand hole....... Keep the key and cylinder well lubed and always put it on square! MarvinsMom and mercrocker 2

New POD Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 I can't wait until my wife opens her present on Christmas day. She keeps going on about how we should go away more. So: I've booked 2 nights in Loft apartment in Cardiff (over our Birthday weekend in Feb) via airBnB and to balance the decadence I've bought her 2 nights in a homeless shelter, over Christmas. I've also bought her sloe gin, and bubble bath, and booked 2 trips to the Theatre. Bill Bailey and Early Doors, the Stage Show. puddlethumper 1
