Mechanics notes to me.

1. I reckon your transfer box is a bit iffy.

2. Your elec parking brake sounds noisy, usually a sign there on the brink.

Oh good, thanks.

Do you still have the Vi? I have been half thinking about a 200 BRM as next track car thingy. Vi is pretty similar isnt it?

VI is very similar to the BRM, but no limited slip diff, orange grille or pimptastic red leather interior.

I still have it, but the water pump is borked - it still starts on the button and still pulls as well as ever but it's pissing out water.  If you wanted it you could have it for 100 quid but you'd have to drag it away.  Also the tyres are pretty well shagged.

Those DAF XFs seem to be a bit notorious for that.  Something about the depth of the windscreen and the driving position being a long way back meaning it's difficult to see what's directly in front of you.

Audi is due an oil change. Anybody know of any offers? I need 8 L of fully synth.

Tesco have fully synth for £6 for 2 litres at the moment (or at least my local one does).

I decided to take the Carina in for a test today instead of the Rover of Doom.  It failed.  Nothing major, except that one of the fails was a cut in a tyre, which I can't currently get off because I can't find the fugging wheelnut key.  Pissflaps.

Took my Saab into the dealer for some work on the brakes. Owner mentioned he had a 2002 9-5 Aero he took in as a PX that would be good for spares for mine, and wanted £250 for it. Said it ran ok and was MOT'D - lack of space more than anything made me turn it down, but mentioned it to my nephew as his Galaxy is on the way out

He rang me tonight to say he went to see it, and bought it. Said it drives great, no bumps or rattles, auto box is very smooth, paintwork is good, no rust evident, heated and ventilated leather seats, and a quality sat nav fitted. Even has the service book stamped up to date, and MOT until Feb. Bloody typical - he'll give it a wash and polish and quadruple his money, then he'll buy another shitty Galaxy!

You should be celebrating in the Karma that's bound to come your way. I hope my Nephews know that I would happily help them double their money on a Saab if I could.

Locking nuts really are a pain in the arse. Why are they even on there?

Who is likely to be nicking the wheels off old Toyotas anyway?

If memory serves they were put on by my uncle about 15 years ago when there was a spate of wheel thefts in his area of Oxford.

Is it still all good when it's up to temp? If it's the 5spd AW55 box, it won't bang into gears until the ATF has got hot enough - usually after about half hour to an hour's running.

Not just wheels. 16 years ago when I lived in Oxford some fugger prised open the fuel filler on my Mk2 Fiesta and siphoned out a full tank of pez. I normally ran it on fumes so sods law they chose a day when I was flush!

FTFY.

To be fair, if you've not driven a truck, you have no idea what the blind spots are like.

You can get fully synthetic oil at Home Bargains, it's £15.99 for 4.5l. Asda's own brand oil was on offer recently too

Work is now progressing on the 1991 Oldsmobile thanks to the recent birthday present of a pair of jack ramps. It seems to be mostly solid underneath apart from some light rust scale that requires knocking off and treating with Dynax UB. The rear silencer was toast and was thrown away but a replacement is tucked away awaiting fitting. New fuel filter fitted without trauma and the old stale petrol drained and replaced with a few gallons of new stuff.

Starts on the button now. The interior needs work still. A lot of work actually, but nothing that will bother the MOT tester. I am amazed how tough the car is having survived so long with the massive amount of neglect inflicted over the years prior to my tenure. Having owned a 1990's Mercury last year I reckon that American cars from that era were solidly built.

The Oldsmobile was basically at 'the end of it's useful life' when I got it (AKA scrap, as repairs not financially viable ) but I persisted. Well over a year since I got it, and well over it's value spent on eBay USA and Rock Auto. The 3.1 V6 engine seems in good order despite the previous neglect and oil that was black and thick. New oil and filter now.

A roller coaster with the car really. I got it, looked it over, decided it was basically junk, parked it up and got on with the other cars. Mojo returned and have been busy. I now am bonding with the car. The more I see the things I expected to be broken or rusty are not broken or rusty at all.

I'll find out tonight when I see him-his first real drive would be the 250 miles he is doing today (He drove it 30 odd miles yesterday). If good he has a bargain, if bad he has the room to break it or punt it on with probably no money lost.

I do satisfy the conditional *if*. I also satisfy the *driven an DAF XF* conditon. I found it to have plenty of mirrors available for use.

What I do find odd is, what appears to be a RHD lorry having a tangle with car. (I'm not saying it's impossible, just that 19 times out of 20, it's a left-hooker.)

I was just listening to the Simon Mayo Radio 2 show. A guy came on from the 'Vanden Plas Owner's Club'. It was quite interesting. He owns one of the Allegro models and says he will be at the NEC Classic Car show in November.

He says that you pronounce the 's' in 'Plas' as it's Belgian Flemish rather than French. I've been pronouncing it 'Vanden Plarrrrr' over the years. My dad's been pronouncing it correctly.

The Simon Mayo confession the previous day involved a couple of blue rinses arriving at an accident in a Metro Vanden Plas in 1982.

I miss my sister's old post facelifted SD3 Vanden Plas with it's slippery leather seats. :-(

The Blingo's developed an engine rattle somewhere fairly deep inside.

And he is indeed correct.  But this is AS.
