2018 Project Resolutions

And I should probably start making enquiries about the Spartan that lives in someone's garage near me, that I've never seen outside in the five years I've been here...

So said I just now in the Merry Christmas thread, and it made me think, we probably all have things we "intend" to do over the next year or so, so let's gather them together here.

I can even offer up a project if anyone wants it!  A banger-boy friend was going to use it as his yard hack, but it needs a new (or otherwise substitute) fuel tank at the very least: it's a 1998 Daihatsu Hi-Jet van, with windows (and may or may not have rear seats to go with them).  It's been laid-up for some time but I'm told it runs.  Not sure if it has keys; it definitely has no papers.  The price will be right, as long as you can collect from Barrow.

The trick with the Spartan will be to walk past casually with my dog at the right time...  Who wouldn't want a beige kitcar with unknown spec and history!

I want the Capri on the road this year, the paint may not be done but as long as it’s up and running I will be happy.

I want my capri on road too theres not much left to do on it to be fair, also my 3 door sierra painted but I won't even get started

Tamworth I still have that steering column for you if you still need it

I A-framed a 1987 Fiat Panda back from the Midlands somewhere nearly 2 years ago and pushed it into my garage...

It hasn't seen the light of day since. I need to crack on with that!

Get the Spitfire in the road (was running this summer but not turned a wheel under its own smoke cloud since 2003).

Get the Cosworth fixed and sold. Or at least driven and decide to keep.

Oh and Mr. Muscle the turbo on the Galaxy.

None of these have happened in the last 5 years, so I don't see why 2018 should turn out any different.

Somebody say Spitfire on the road!

Investigate the fuelling problem on my boggo spec '96 Laguna RN, and get it running again with a view to getting it MOT'd and rehomed - before I pull off so many bits to keep my other Laguna going that there's nowt left of it... I'm guessing it's probably something quite basic like a clogged filter or kinked fuel line, but I just haven't had the chance to have a proper hoke since the weather turned.

1: get Capri on road and finished.

2: finish Transit camper conversion.

3: don't fuck it up.

Should do me I think. I'll revisit this thread in a year...

TR Toledo: swap the headlights out, remove most of the interior, fit 12v power supply, relocate the fan switch to the dash. Throw some paint of the non-painted bits. Source some posher shocks for it. Fit Alfa 156 front seats.

Dolly 1850 auto: fix the blowing exhaust, fit a new lower valance, get the rusty bits welded up.

R75: tidy up the one rusty wheel arch.

Verdict: hahahahahahhahahahahahahahahaha

Having exhumed my Mini from darkness in August this year I really need to get cracking with it. It will be 50 years old in 2018 and Minis celebrate 60 years in ‘19. What better incentive?

There is also another Kallista on the go as well as helping a friend with his Stag, some resolutions to go into 2019 there too.

Tidy up the MG Express now it's back on the road.I've had it 10 years today  :-D

Buy some shocks & springs for the Volvo to give it some kind of handling,or buy an Alfa GT?

Decide whether to keep the Rover 25 or sell it on?

Where to begin?

The Vauxhall 2300S is by no means a project but it needs the poor running to be sorted - following Stanky's Jago Geep and SiC's MGB travails I've been researching carb refurbs and electronic ignition options, and will probably enlist the help of Southern Carburettors with both as they're not a million miles away from one of my workplaces. Then I'll run around in it for a bit and probably sell it to someone who will treasure it more than I.

Breadvan's tame mechanic will sort the Granada, then that will come home, at which point I'll probably move the Discovery on as I don't need both.

I'll have another go at sourcing a windscreen for the Audi 80, which is what stands between it and an MOT. It also needs a good service now. Will probably pass that on to a friend or may just use it for motorway work.

Renault 16 needs transporting from its lockup to my shed, which is only a couple of miles but it lacks MOT and a brake light switch so requires either a trailer (which I have) or bravery and an escort. Also overdue a service. Service parts will be easy to find though, right?

Lotus will go for its next phase of work, probably in the spring. May come back repainted; will certainly get a new diff and some wiring and heater plumbing.

Rancho needs some creative metalwork (see photo below). Welding is the least of it. Should I get some tools and cornflakes packets and learn fabrication skills? Is that realistic? We'll see.

post-4091-0-92173600-1514293932_thumb.jpg

Lancia shouldn't be a project, it just needs persuading to run, by someone with more skills than me. I will put an auto electrician on it for a day, otherwise it's going on a trailer to a Lancia specialist for open-wallet surgery.

The Rover needs bodywork as it's full of wob, but I suspect that'll have to wait another year given all of the above.

Golf will get dragged into the shed at some point. Needs quite a bit of work, though it's mostly meccano stuff rather than welding; might benefit from a rotisserie. Rancho first though.

Finally, once I've sold something(s) I'll drag the XJ6 back from Sussex and get work started on that - I had the brakes and running gear done ages ago but it needs a bit of welding for MOT and then some use.

Chances of doing all this in 2018? Slim. But it's something to aim for.

^^ GT!!!!!

Tempting, but after the Volvo I reckon I would be disappointed by the performance from a 2.0 petrol or a diesel,& I can't really afford to buy or run another V6  :-(

Get my Bonnie built & on the road.

Maybe fix the Saab gearbox, front subframe bushes & waterpump area leaks.

Lovely Herald too! :)

The Herald should have been a simple project to get it usable again but when I jacked it up this year to change a wheel the jack went though the n-s front out rigger. I would still like to get it back on the road but it is going to need weld now. We also know the engine is tired but we have a spare.

I have always wanted a Herald, them seem great cars. I keep my eye open for a cheap project but they always seem to be in Scotland or Penzance.

Definitely going to have this thing back on the road in 2018. Finally managed to get hold of a 2.6 twin fuel pump set up and it seems a shame to just have it sitting doing nothing. Ive been very lucky with this one body-wise, jacking points, rear screen surround and front wings are all solid, considering it's spending it's second Winter on the drive. It drove very nicely as well, having the 2.6 six pot motor and the uprated sportline suspension option.

And I could do with a spare as I only have the Octy doing frontline service at the mo...

I did some rough maths earlier to see how much getting all (three) project cars to a level I'd be happy with would cost.

I came to approx £5000.

Ah crud.

So to avoid going bankrupt, I am going to do one car at a time. Tempra first methinks, which needs an absolutely stonking clean first. The previous owner seemed to not own any vacuum cleaner, wet wipes, sponges, running water, etc, bin bags etc. The only saving grace is that the rear seats seem to have not been used very much, although the rear ashtrays are both full. Gross.

Weld and tidy up near side of Transit and sign it up in a period way.

Fit megajolt ignition system.

Try out the Janspeed turbo whilst spending minimal money.

Rebuild and fit new engine and a 5 speed or o/d box.

Learn how to re spoke a motorcycle wheel, get a load of stainless butted spokes made and rebuild at least 6 wheels while getting the chrome liners machined out and new ones fitted.

Ride at least one of my bikes on the road further than the MOT station.

Buy an Aussie Valiant preferably a charger.

Buy a house with space for a workshop or some land I can build on.

Clear my garage out so I can actually move around the car (Triumph vitesse), then a new gas regulator that doesn't leak.

get this finished and put back on the road - this was a couple of years ago when the previous owner got really close to finishing it, i cannot wait to get this back on the road,

while with this one i'm planning to get the body work tidied up, and the new n/s door put on and painted, plus change that back subframe so that i'll get the new one out of the spare room and out of the way, i'm fed up of trippin' up over the bloody thing and once its done and on the car then we can use it and enjoy it. once of course that the black one is back on the road

post-18270-0-37624300-1514301331_thumb.jpg

i also plan (hope?) to get some of the body issues on this sorted out, and use and enjoy....
