Hi, It's an auto so it's a ZF HP22 4 speed with mechanical speedo output. much sought after for fitting in Rover P5b's, P6b's and Triumph Stags otherwise an electronic speedo is needed if fitting BMW, Jaguar or Volvo tail housings. The bellhousing will keep the gearbox upright and avoid the modification of its sump pan if using Range Rover or BMW, Jag or Volvo versions.

I took carbs of a P plate disco 1 that had no sign that efi had ever grace the engine bay before, Lode Lane clearly didnt want to let their SUs go !

Actually if it is heading for frag what are the wheels tyres and front calipers like? I'm assuming this would have 4 pots and vented discs and they make a nice upgrade to a transit.

If I had the space I'd totally bag that for a conversion to a motorhome...make a change from the diesels that struggle to reach 50 on any vague incline or headwind!

Sure it would be a bit thirsty...but for the get up and go (and noise once the exhaust was suitably configured) would totally be worth it.  Auto would be nice for that sort of use as well I'd think.

Yes the Auto box is why he bought it. He has one already but it's unproven, he's had this thing driving out and about for a few days and everything is bob on.

It just makes me sad that a fully MOT'd Van will end up in the scrap skip. He did say the wheels and calipers and anything else saleable will be punted on ebay.

I asked on the way out of the office what the absolute death would be and he said £800 so shitters discount applies. £800. It will be around until the first week in Jan so if anyone is genuinely interested there is some time.

Are 135bhp RV8s really worth that much? I thought an old RV8 and autobox would be worth 2-300 quid? Manual boxes were worth a lot but Rimmers are reproducing the bellhousing now.

I once bought a 3.0 mk2 Transit because I thought it would be a laugh, it was for about half a day.

It also was ex-Police , LWB crew cab with a full bulkhead and lift up tailgate, with its lusty* Essex and manual overdrive ( mk4 Zodiac?) box , it was the ultimate Transit. But only if you're comparing it to knackered V4s, Kents and de tuned Pintos, compared to a Di it was shit, not much faster and just about managed 10 mpg.

This thing would have the added misery of being a Fat Sherpa with all that entails and of course the auto and high roof to keep mpg in single figures.

My Transit got sold to bloke who was going to rip the V6 out and put a 2 litre Pinto in it for use as a rally service barge.

£800 isn’t too bad a price, and I understand he may want to sack it off if he doesn’t get his price, but I’d be surprised if he could get close to that if he weighed it in and took a few bits off.

should be on EFI from L reg-ish onwards (upgrade to 300Tdi era) owned a G reg 3 door V8 and loved it...great fun round islands with No ARB's and squishy RR suspension..Many grins :D

I had one of these in full ex ambulance flavour, which ended up moving all my mate's earthly possessions to Spain, and being abandoned and stripped at his Finca!

As I recall it wasn't horrendous on the juice, and not exactly a flying machine either - I could swear I was getting close to 20mpg, but I'm not a heavy-footed driver as a rule :?

Honestly wish I had kept it, but I get bored easily, would love this one, but all the usual excuses apply, unless a straight swap for a Kia Sedona was on the cards :-P

Looking at the MOT history, no corrosion fails in the past and what seems a credible 40k miles from new. Love it!

Were the bonnet vents ( metro items?) parts bin factory items on a v8 or a later Barry addition?

Factory I believe.  The replacement bonnet on the 400 diesel I co-own with Craig-the-Princess has them and I have assumed it came from a V8.

Oh just buy it, you know you want to

The days of picking up a Rover V8 lump for £150 are long gone.

You would need balls of steel to drive that fast - I would imagine 90 mph in that is like trying to stay on the back of a shot giraffe.

That's ace! Though the windscreen wipers are the wrong way around, so I'm out.

Are they ?

Are they ?

..... looks like standard '4 holes/2 rubber bungs' & set side for Export.

Wipers are UK OK, to me?

The arms are the wrong way round..

Absolutely but you can pick up a V8 disco complete for £300-400 if you have time to wait and look around.

The arms are different left/right, idea being to minimise the blind spot to the driver's right I imagine.

... something I really wish Van Hool would have done when they brought the first Alizee coaches over here with the "car style" wipers.  They left a bloody massive uncleared patch by the windscreen pillar on the driver's side, but went nearly all the way to the pillar on the nearside.  On the plus side, at least you could see in the nearside mirror!

Really wish I had the space and money for this... it's an odd spec and more importantly not rotten LDV.  Massive potential blank canvas to do stuff with, and the bonus of trivially cheap parts if they're still like when I last did any work on one a few years back.

To be honest the only complaint I had about the last LDV I drove was that it was painfully noisy and needed about double the horsepower to pass as underpowered rather than dangerous.  That was an utterly clapped out council one though!  So no doubt had been specced with the smallest engine available, and it had 300k plus on the clock.

I think someone at The Met. around this time had a bonnet vent fixation.

All of the 2.0 Twin Cam auto , area response Sierras had 4x4 Sapphire Cossie bonnets, which always looked like overkill to me.

I can assure you these things are far from fast. One couldn't keep up with my Cortina 2.0S back in 1990.
