I actually find brake cleaner is better than easy start. Doesn’t seem as harsh and cause as much diesel knock if you get a bit carried away

Is it true ( old wives tale) that a diesel started on it gets addicted and won’t start otherwise? I can’t see how, but I’ve heard this from several sources*

Posted

I’ve heard that too but doubt it. Maybe if you started on it every time for ages.

Past caring now, might just ring the scrappers tomorrow

Hope you manage to sort the LDV and restore our faith* in the brand. I've always wanted an ex rm LDV pilot with the crew seats for use as a non scene taxed poor persons vw t4 family alternative.

Allegedly buggers the piston rings leading to lack of compression and the need for more easy start.

Sore loss money wise if you bridge it though.

Can you not take a couple of pictures of it & stick it back on bumtree as spares or repairs? £500 or something? I think you would get someone with it, especially as come January...many "new" businesses start up......New years resolutions & all that...

Worth a try.

Maybe glow plugs or glow plug relay gone. Plenty of reports of that online. I'd try easy start of you can. Failing that, yeah something with a propellant in.

Cheltenham and Gloucester both have Holts cold start and easy start in store at Halfords according to the online checker.

No we used it for years on a diesel Fergy tractor as it was easier than spending ages cranking but even after all that time of it being used it would still go without.

It's just easier than fannying about flattening batteries and yes it is possible to gas up a Diesel engine and they don't dry out either :(

Anyway as stated earlier spin it over whilst squirting anything flammable up the air intake.

If it's the transit engine the fuel filter will be the prime suspect for letting air in.

It's called borewashing apparently.

Wuss. You've obviously lost your shite mojo in that their London.

Bypassing the glow plug relay is bound to be a less radical and far less costly option ;-)

No, it just lets you keep on using it making the starting fault get worse instead of repairing it.

I know an idiot who gave a preserved bus way too much easy start and it wnt bonkers, and snapped the crank. Leyland 0.600 cranks are pretty hard to find as well. Hate the stuff

Right. Hooked it up to the mighty Duster with jump leads and cycled the glow plugs 4 times. (Was armed with some hairspray in case it was going to keep fighting me)

Started up with a bit of clag.

Took it out for a drive - still slow as fuck and now the EML is on. Definitely in limp mode.

Going to go and try to find my Delphi kit tomorrow.

Do those have ye olde mechanical diesel pump ? If so, has the previous owner messed with the fuelling ?

Cheltenham didn’t have it when I was there earlier. Must be kept out the back.

Yup, we always kept the Easy-Start behind the parts desk, not on the shelf. Far too easy a target for thieving toerag gluesniffers. Other stuff on the shelf was equally potent, but they recognised the Easy-Start can.

One of the engineers I work with calls this stuff rod bender as it is really harsh when it starts a diesel engine, so if that's true I suppose it could break a crank. Don't they have the equivalent in Oz called 'start yer bastard!!'.

Nationwide have got nothing in, but Yorkshire Bank had a can of Start Ya Bastard! on the shelf.

Hired a van years ago, the limiter was a bolt screwed and welded into the floor under the accelerator.

That made a fun journey down the Ford rd. and over the Runcorn bridge into a head wind.

Stuck with it at least until I get the V5 now I’ve taxed it. Going to go and try to find my code reader today

Fuel pressure regulator seems to be a common bork item according to google
