Would agree- our maxxus had a quarter of a million miles on it and still cruised at well above the ton... got my last 3 points in it... even loaded with a Jag, you could forget yourself and have 3 figures on the speedo. 2.5 VM engine innit. Dash is horribe, cupholders are shite, speakers are shite, where the radio is, is shite handbrakes are shite, Daewoo steering wheel is shite but **** me they drive well when good. Genuine parts are bloody cheap too.post-62-0-05944000-1512675663_thumb.jpg

Midi's are fantastic  :-D

omg column change not been in one of those for years (uncle dave had one then a nissan vanette then a combovan :D )

Would the engine fit into a Range Rover ? :D

Yes, in the back, but you'd probably get oil all over the carpet.

Code readers don't really talk to the Maxxus. OBD will work..not much else.

I think between threads that start "I'm in this city, I need to buy something today" and random fibreglass tat, I've just remembered why I joined Autoshite all those years ago. Nicely bought! Hope you can adjust the limiter with a suitable precision instrument/BFOH.

Also, make your money back with some Royal Mail stickers and go round all the post boxes with a crowbar scooping up £20 notes in cards from grandma.

Engine also used in LXT taxi, Jeep liberty and Chrysler Voyager. If your Delphi doesn't have LDV, I'd try those cars and see if it detects it.

Has it got the ghosting of the original Royal Mail livery on it? On Ex rm vans it usually sticks out a mile and I'm strange but I wouldn't mop it as it would get rid of that link to its ragged to death past.

My yellow MM1000 'post office telephones' van showed sticker text >> petrol soaked rag had that away ;)

When Arthur_foxhake turned my xantia down, it flew through the mot but then ran not very well until I turned it back up, kept stalling when I dipped he clutch to change down a gear.

Turn stuff up and see what happens? Good old fashioned service? Or hold it in 3rd and see if it'll do 80,that'll decide it

I thought these were fairly oldschool, how would the limiter work?

When I did work experience from school at a haulage firm, one of the first things I learned was which fuse to take out when you were late to the MOT appointment. All a bit more complex than that now, but I'm wondering if these would be as easy to defeat.

Or is it a bit of string around the speedo and under the brake? If the needle goes past 75 it tugs on the string and puts the brakes on? :)

I reckon the limiter will be in the ECU. Delphi might talk to these and you might be able to adjust the limiter, but often you can only go lower.

the limiter is probably a bit of wood glued to the back of the accelerator

^ I always feel wuvvum is our autoshite commercial vehicles specialist.

Except when it comes to Ivecos obvs - Billy's your man for those.

Slowness.

Temp gauge doesn’t work but the heaters do get warm.

Just thought, those could be connected. Temp sender died, ECU throwing EDC warning light on, ECU over fuelling (cause assuming really cold) and maybe even in limp.

ECU off a non limited version as a last resort?

These must be stacked sky high in the scrappers these days, there was a section for them back in Aberdeen in 2011!!!

99% of them were sold to either Royal Mail or to extra tight local councils and schools as minibuses so I would wager the majority are limited.

Plus with it being a modern there will be fuckery with keys and immo boxes and whatnot.

There is an outside chance it can be changed in diagnostics eg Delphi as mentioned, otherwise it's a remap job.

Minibuses would be limited to 62. I'm struggling to see what the issue is with a van that has a limiter set beyond the speed limit myself...

What revs is it when it's doing 75mph? I'm wondering if it's actually limiting to 3k rpm because of limp mode. Or that a boost leak (or knackered engine) means it doesn't have enough spare power available to get above the wind resistance and drag.

Snap. These things will be too damn noisey to drive that fast anyway.

What's it for? :-)

I've been wondering that. Makes for an entertaining thread if nothing else!

A general dislike of electronic interference in one's driving?

Must say if I had a van that should do 100 but only did 75 I would find that upsetting even though I wouldn't wanna drive it over 65ish

Maxus you say. Here is one I snapped (and was briefly a passenger in) at the Swindon Royal Mail sorting office. I was there picking up a 67-plate Peugeot Partner RM van.

Royal Mail still seem to have a fair few of these hanging around their yards, usually in a state of disrepair (flat tyres/mould growing around the parking spot/very sun faded RM-related bumf in the dash etc...)

Birmingham City Clowncil had a couple of them in thier fleet when I worked there a couple of years ago. Never drove it properly myself as I always got given bloody Transit Connects or Fiesta Vans, plus the Maxus eventually got bashed by another inexperienced driver. I really want to try one out properly.
