Yep this has the mechanical fuel pump but the previous owner had also fitted a back up electric pump, allegedly to help prime after sitting. The fact the electric pump is fitted before the mechanical and still goes through it makes me think it has been showing symptoms before.

AA have arrived and dropped me at Gretna services so now waiting on a van to try and fail to fix it before waiting on the big yellow taxi

That's a Renault 'B' truck for uninitiated. Details here:

https://fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault_Gamme_B

Looks like it's a camper now  started life as a box  van or utility truck - foreign plates?

They are RWD but use the FWD Master cab.

Least if you break down in a camper you can have a kip in comfort. Looks like you can do your laundry too...

Eek.  Best make sure the sump isn't absolutely brimmed with fuel then in case the diaphragm has failed in the mechanical pump...

As had evidently happened with a certain P6.  What came out of that sump was truly disgusting.

AA man arrived, diagnosed air getting into the system at the filter. Tightened up the jubilee clamp it started and he sent me on my way. Thirty miles further north and I am now awaiting a second recovery wagon 😞

Nightmare. Sorry to hear that.

How does it go when it's not FTP?

When going it is much better than I expected and also better on fuel as a bonus

Now crossing my fingers they don't pull the "no recovery for the same recurring fault" or however it's worded bollocks on you.

Possible silly suggestion: un-vented cap or blocked tank vent line causing it to pull a vacuum and starve itself of fuel?

Not a bad shout that squire. Very much doubt they would successfully pull a c***s trick like that.
Car restarting after it cools down is so "normal" could point to a million things is the issue. Overheating fuel pump. Dislodging crud on the pick while it's been off for a while. Ignition parts overheating.
I'm still on team fuel though. Good luck saabnut. We are all with you even if you are an unashamed CA.

Typically the AA did indeed try the recurring fault bollox. I made sure they were recording the conversation and told them just that. They were not for budging but a local agent did things I cannot put in a public place to protect them and the lorry is due here in 10 minutes for recovery home.

Fairly sure it is air getting into the system near the tank so should not be hard to diagnose.

Have another picture because I am bored!

As WVM techie, I used to roar up the Big Hill in my WV.... Boring 😵‍💫

Decided on a day when not [evva...] time constrained I'd do the 'old road' (basically criss crossing the railway) on the way up.

Well, different anyway 😉

Sad to hear of your Zero Motivation, a bummah 😯

That's a Revolution, check it's 'clean' first.

Sorry to hear about the ftp's @Saabnut, but it is a Sherpa.

The contractor in the wagon from Car a Truck at Lockerbie arrived, got everything loaded and we were off. I was expecting the usual relay palaver but they were willing to take it all the way so had it dropped at a friends so we can look at it at leisure and I could get to drink his beer 🍺

A long day but could have been much worse and the AA have not heard the last of this. I have always had good service from them in the past hence I have been a member for 24 years!

I don't think that'll cut much ice?

Good job on the collection - you have much more patience than me :-)

Shirley the second failure is entirely down to the original recovery guy failing to fix the issue? In which case it would be entirely on them.

Absolutely and they obviously saw it that way in the end.

The attending patrol before clearing the job off his screen should of (unless he was 100% certain he had found and permanently fixed the cause of the breakdown) added a note stating it was a temporary repair and if vehicle stops again reattendance / recovery may be required.

The patrol should of also given you a breakdown assistance report (email or paper) advising wether he carried out a permanent or temporary only repair.

RAC were bad but we didn't refuse a second call out on what was obviously a misdiagnosed initial breakdown 30 miles later up the road.

There is usually something in the T+C's about charging for repeat call outs to previous patrol diagnosed faults but that's surely for stuff that breaksdown again days later and has obviously not been in for repair and not for same day/out of hours breakdowns where getting to a garage/repairer is not possible.

Back home after a fun* day yesterday. The camper worked great as a camper last night.

In all honesty it was not thad bad, apart from the idiot in the AA call centre, everyone else was grand.

So why am I thinking of going back down next week for something completely different?

Talking to my friend where the Sherpa was dropped off the other day. It would appear the additional aftermarket electric fuel pump was the problem. Removing it from the system has seen the van running well again. Too early to be 100% certain, but looking hopeful.

So, on to other things! Since arriving home I have been offered lots of interesting chod. First, located in South Yorkshire is a Barkas B1000. I am tempted with this.

I have little knowledge of these and no idea of value (anyone?) but as said I am tempted. I have not seen, just have loads of photos.

Friday, I was offered these Imp engines and transaxles

theres a bemusing video game called "the long drive" that features these, thus you should buy one just for the memes as the kids say :)

I mean anything with a 2 stroke engine in it is surely worth buying, and you get the bonus fun of everyone looking around wonder where the Motorcycle or Saab is coming from, only to swing round into view on your east German truck thing and confuse the hell out of everyone

and ill tag @richykitchy and @tooSavvy for the Imp content

Just the remains of a very badly damaged donor car. If it had ID even the few straight bits would have a value.

Those Imps look like interesting projects. Is that a Californian or Stiletto in amongst?

Off topic, but was it you who bought Vulgalour's old Polo breadvan years back? I remember it was put back to standard-ish.
