Just thinking out loud here... as you no longer have a car (I assume the winner of the 106 Roffle decided to take the car on) does this now mean you have a driveway space at home where the R30 could live?

Inner city bedsit with no off-road parking I'm afraid :( obvs that was fine because the Pug was MOT'd and Taxed.......

Well an old codger with a pipe stopped by today, surveyed the wreckage and nodded approvingly!

"Young man....." He said, great clouds of St Bruno smoke billowing around his tweed jacket "Good on you! They were shit cars, but you've got to let it have it once in a while or you'd get depressed!"

And off he went

Don't know what he meant by it.......

Perhaps the 20TX nut did indeed get blasted by ISIS, but managed, like some heroic wing comander in WW2, to overcome his injuries just long enough to get his machinery back to blighty so that others might have the use of it!

You brave brave man, makes the coming restoration of my Tagora look like a walk in the park! At least I don't have any problems with running gear or brakes being mostly all Pug. Bit of an R30 fan myself, so crack on my man, this car deserves its resurrection as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, you cant rock up and make one post about the Holy Grail without providing pics!

The best first post ever.

Welcome to the forum!

I know brown R30TS backseats, they are cozy, can I have it for a small donation? :)

I think I've still got a set of dark blue leathery rear seats from my dad's old R30TS in the loft at home. They've been there since approx 1985, but they were nice when they went up there...

Ok everyone

I am sorry to say that the R30 now needs to go. I'd rather not go into details, but my mental health is not being helped by the stress of this millstone round my neck. For the sake of self preservation it needs to go.

Today I got to actually drive a R20 for the first time. Despite owning 2 x Renault 20, 1 x Renault 30, 1 x Renault Fuego, today was the first time ever that I managed to actually enjoy an hour of driving a Shitemobile. What has happened in the past is that I have flogged myself to death over many many months to restore a hopeless, rotten basket case, got nowhere close, and ended up selling the half finished product to satisfy the outstanding overdraft. All pain no pleasure.

After a frank discussion with Junkman and Conelrad today regarding it's true condition, I have decided to bow to the inevitable and move the car on. I want to enjoy at least a little driving as well as the mechanical tortures of Shite ownership.  I cannot see the R30 going back on the road for less than £1500. I have acquired an R20 TX in very nice condition now, and I hope to find the processes of Classic Maintenance more relaxing and enjoyable than "Flogging a dead Greyhound!" I have put the emails out to all the "Usual suspects" to see if anybody in R20/30 circles will take it on.

If anybody on here wants to come get it for a couple of Hundred (For god's sake just don't do it to yourself), do let me know. I have a huge amount of spare parts which will be included! I don't want to scrap the car, but I cannot go on with it any further. I have replaced all the brake lines, got it starting and running reliably, and tried to tackle the worst of the panel grot etc etc. It has been a contribution which I hope will give it a chance of survival in someone else's ownership. Whoever that is, it will not be me :)

Would it be okay to post a link over on another forum I'm active on that specialises in motors from this corner of the world?  Never know, someone might be interested!

GLWTS, Doubleyeller.  You have my total sympathy, having recently been in exactly the same position with my Rover 213.  At least I got to drive mine for a few months before it got laid up!  I hope this 20 serves you as well as my 820 is serving me.  Maybe we should get them together!

^ Bluntly put, but this is a very fair point.

I don’t need an apology, but for the record, the money we gave you was to help restore a rare car (that is presumably now going to be scrapped or at best broken) not to buy you a nicer one. And it was more than a couple of pints.

Very unimpressed.

Skizz, I think you need to add this to your barn (at a discounted price obvs).  It's not really good enough having only one big thirsty large-engined '70s hatchback in your fleet - a gentleman needs at least two.

(and no, the Elite doesn't count as a hatchback.)

That would be a very fair point if it were actually true. Let me just be clear, that money (every penny) WAS spent on the Renault 30. If anyone takes on the R30, they will benefit from it. More accurately the car will continue to benefit from it. Simply put, due to life circumstances I don't feel able to continue with this project. I don't see how the fact that the car's ownership alters makes a difference to the car. And who said anything about scrapping etc? That will be in the hands of the new owner.

Not one penny of it was spent on the Renault 20 I have obtained. That money came from elsewhere. I would prefer it if people could check their facts before making accusations.

If you want the Renault 30, by all means come and take it away. Can't say fairer than that.

Yeah sure, go for it.

Aw come on, Ben - he gave it a fair crack, and I think we all wanted to believe it could be a dream come true, and some of us donated towards the cause.

I really don't think anyone on here seriously considers doubleyeller of being trying to run some kind of a hinky pyramid scheme - we all banded together in the vain hope we could save this piece of shite history, surely one of the main raison d'etre of this forum ?

Sometimes life just happens and even with the best will in the world, and the kindest generosity from folks here doesn't always produce the intended results.

Kudos to doubleyeller for knowing when he's beat, and for being upfront about it. He's clearly gutted and donors will be too.

Just not meant to be. Nowt cynical, just the way it is....

- Doubleyeller sets out to rescue a car that has deteriorated massively during previous ownership.

- Due to a severe cash flow problem, a crowdfund is created.

- The fund dosh is consequently spent on the car. Every penny of it.

- Life gets in the way, thus further restoration cannot be carried out.

- Instead of carefully storing the car again in a soggy field for another good few years, which would finally see it off,

Doubleyeller fights like a lion to find someone to take it on, so that this won't happen.

- Doubleyeller gets a shitstorm.

Thank you for those kind words

Well I don't foresee a bad ending here particularly for the R30. A Renault 20TS owner has been in touch wanting to take the R30 on. Like I have said, it's not getting scrapped, but I have reached the end of my time with it. It is on someone else's drive, and his wife has been an absolute dear parking on the road for a whole year now. I now live 40 miles away from it, and am reliant on public transport to get me over there (the train station being about a mile and a half from the car.)  I also suffer from anxiety and depression which is bad at the moment. Life changes.

The fund was set up as a bit of fun. It will be remembered that it was a plea for small donations. It grew to something quite unimagined. When donations of larger amounts came through, I did make a point of messaging to ask was the donor sure etc. It's a bit sad to see it end with recriminations, especially the false accusations that I used it to buy another car. I would also point out that members on here have witnessed the work being done and furnished the forum with photos. I closed the fund as the generosity of donations had been staggering and I was slightly uncomfortable that I had started more than I really meant to.

The bottom line is, we have collectively improved the R30, and hopefully enough for a buyer to take it on. I'd just like to add that it's me who has spent Autumn and Winter outside freezing to death working on the 30. Since taking the car on I have got into University and I do not sensibly have time to work on the car any more without affecting my studies. Life changes and it's time to move her on. I am going to give the 20TS guy a call since he has actually been to see the car and is still interested...

I did try.

Shit happens

Can I just say that to see Carlos Fandango, a famous Irish shiteist lurking here is fabulous? I know his collection without knowing him from Irish sites; do I need a Conway Twitty interlude with him??!
