Zelandeth
That looks great in that photo. Great colour for it. Never seen one of that model up close, be curious to see one to compare to the Ladas and Skoda's I've owned.

HMC
The mediocre golf mk4 has been a very steady and reliable old tub. The only niggle it has is it seems easy to stall/cut out for 5 minutes after a cold start; easy enough to drive around that. By new car standards it's 175/80 r14 tyres are comically small and high profiled, but that does help it to ride nicely no doubt. What's the obsession with ultra low profile tyres on family hatches these days? Genuinely puzzled. Back to the mediocre golf. It's tyres were a mixed budget set that had seen better days. I may take the family to Germany in this in January, so in compliance with German winter driving laws I've got a set of new tyres. Rather than go for winter tyres and face messing about getting another set of wheels and summer tyres, I went for a set of all season kumho covers all round. They carry the appropriate markings and approval for winter use if we do venture back to the country of its birth in the new year. I disgraced the local MB dealers with it today collecting a few bits for the w202 c class. Parking next to a demonstrator that the golf is worth 0.4% of seemed to cause a few of the car sales people a bit of worry. Maybe they thought I was responsible for the golf's crunched bumper and front wings? Coprolalia and oldcars
richardthestag
legendary stuff My Aunt owned one in the early 1980s, for some reason it ended up on my parents driveway for quite some time. Dad was amused by it, the neighbours didnt warm to its cold start charms. regularly smoked the entire street out. Went well though. Only issue Fatha thestag seems to recall was the bizarre freewheel mechanism, you had to accelerate before braking if you wanted engine braking. And you would want engine braking. Sold it to a Wartburg fanatic. must have some photos of it around someplace. will try dig them out HMC
spartacus
I really wish I could get on with the shape of these, as all models seem to be insanely cheap. They don't have a particularly good rep but I'm sure a well looked after example is as good as any other car of the era. It may have already been suggested but cleaning the throttle body can cure many poor running issues.
HMC
^ I know what you mean about the looks of these golf mk4s- they look a bit lardy to me and even after a few weeks I can't decide if I like the shape. egg
HMC
Semi tempted by a local Mazda rx8 here- it's cheap and hot start issue reported. Avoid like the plague or worth a punt? The Reverend Bluejeans
For £395 it would be daft not to buy it. They can be rubbish, but.....£395. Lose that spoiler though.
