NEC Classic Car Show - November

I am welching out, I have decided I just can't stomach the £50 cost for me and my dad to go to this, I'm just too skint!!! FFS man.

Just have a look at an event report from last year, or go and stare at one of your old motors under an orange streetlight.

Then sit in traffic for two hours and pay your dad £37 to go to the chippy.

You're destroying my theory/imagination that you are the secret millionaire of this forum.

Booked in for the Saturday!

But why have we not had an Autoshite stand there? I reckon the punters would love our brand of oddball obscurity...

I had been considering heading over to this, but between having just been over to the US for the wedding of my brother in law, and last weekend being up at a convention in Edinburgh I just reckon I need to try to watch the pennies until the new year!  Plus I really want to get the Estelle ready for an MOT so I can get it moved on.

Maybe next year - at least I won't have just had an international trip denting the bank account then!

I'll be there bright and early for the doors opening at 10am in the morning. Probably call for an all you can eat brekkie at Harvester in Coleshill to fill me up for the day. Really looking forward to it.

Decided to give it miss now, for the first year ever

When tinny Peugeots are selling for the price of a yacht at Poole, I'll feel poor and sad

I will miss not seeing the gorgeous Mike Brewer

Useful tip for anyone travelling by car. NEC car park is a rip-off £12 per day :o Birmingham International train station which is only a short walk away from the NEC is I think only £5 per day and you can pre-book. if you are coming from the North,  you could get off the M6 at junction 8 and  park for free at Tamebridge Parkway,( but get there early if Saturday as it fills up quickly,) and about £8 return to Birmingham International, change at New Street. This will save on wear and tear and fuel, and you can read all your new brochures on the way back :)

Still think we should do the Restoration show. " Here someone can be seen expertly applying ducktape to a mk2 Mondeo bumper"

last year I parked in Resorts world multistory, 5 minute walk to the NEC, we were there before the shops opened and left late afternoon and it was £2

BUT I've just read they've changed this policy so now you need to spend £20 in the shops to validate the ticket , I'd probably still do that and look at it as a 50% discount on the stuff I bought rather than handing over £12 to park a mile from the venue

That would be excellent

My mate is into fast fords, has a Mk2 escort with a zetec engine in it, it spins the wheels in 3rd, there was a ford he didn't recognise on a stand, it was a Mk2 cortina but not standard

some guy walked up with a brummie accent

Iyts a Crayyyford mayte

I just laughed and said it's nice but you'd be mad to pay XXX for it, can't remember how much but over 30k , he just started detailing all the work that'd been done on it, it'd been polished to a inch of it's life then it dawned on me it was his car, oops

The thought of seeing a stand next to it with demonstrations of duct tape application every 15 minutes would be fantastic

Me and 17-Coffees will be leaving Aberdeen sometime soon* and will be staying in Preston. We'll be there tomorrow!

*whenever he turns up

I was going to say to look out for a beige Mondeo bombing down the motorway, but a beige Mondeo has the wonderful ability to blend into the scenery.

They could alternate between duct tape and 1001 uses for cable ties

Think I am going Saturday as now I live 2 train stops away from the NEC I don't really have an excuse not to go

I live a bus ride and 7 stops away from the NEC, the excuse I've got for not going; Can't afford it and I'm busy with other stuff.

Its better than the 600 mile round trip I would have had

Just got back and it was a great day out. Loads of great cars from across the spectrum and fantastically knowledgeable people to chat with. Great to see some rare cars like the Lancia 037 that I haven't seen there before. Ladies in Lycra on the Lancaster insurance stand were also easy on the eye.

To say it was preview day it did seem quite busy so it look so like the exclusivity of t Friday is disappearing.

There does seem to be more and more trade stands there each year though.

I'll be making the 50 minute or so trip north and north-west tomorrow aiming to get there for 10:30 or 11. I'm going to bend over and take the parking charge; I've budgeted for it sadly.

Depending on where I park I should make it to the show either by 10:40, 11:10 or 14:00.
