I must say I'm glad I moved here after I learned English.

There is this little island next to a polyglott Continent that adopted its language as a common denominator,

yet people visiting to improve their English must be appalled by what they hear and read.

You can slag the septics as much as you like, but generally they are in better command of the English

language than the English are.

 

Coincidentally, Mr Conelrad and I had exactly this discussion the other day and just for comparison,

I suggested to read some German eBay ads to prove how terrible their German is.

I expected it to be on par with the drivel bordering illiteracy you sadly very commonly find on eBay UK

(and elsewhere) without really looking for it, but to my surprise, despite you could clearly distinguish

between elaborated and restricted code based on the education level the writers enjoyed*,

no comparably stammered together incapability could be found.

 

I sometimes wonder whether those people ever read a book or wrote a letter.

The conclusion that scares me most is that probably many of those people have never formed an

original thought in their life.

 

Why is it then, that exactly Shiters, of all people, appear to be able to communicate in impeccable

English? The standard on this forum is second to very little and I already have recommended this

forum to people interested in improving their English skills.

 

In fact, I do myself to an extend, deliberately using no spell checker. What you read from me is

the actual level I'm on. I'm a bit miffed that the only forum member who ever corrected me when

I made a mistake has been banned. I would appreciate if more people would point out my mistakes.
