Mr Bo11, I do like your ebay links - another one I have punted a bid on (probably wont get it for sub £350 - but hey lets take a chance). Its currently £1.20.Guaranteed to stay gold and at its standard ride height if i take it on. I wonder how impossible it would be to get the trim rings for the front wheels?

That Golf is a gem, unmessed with and as close as you can get to beige in a late '80s car 8) The 1.8 goes a bit too, the Mk2 Golf is still pretty light with a big engine to haul it around. If I hadn't just got my Polo, I'd be all over that like a cheap suit

That is indeed very nice, wonder what nice spec items these GLs had over the base and CL models tho? Apart from the velour it just seems bog standard inside.Got the brown dash though which is uber-rare :)

VW weren't much for equipment in those days. I think, over the CL, the GL had plastic sort-of trim rings (the rear wheel still has it, see the six "notches" around the rim?), four-spoke steering wheel, and maybe a rev counter. PAS as standard only with the "big bumpers"?Never tried a 1.8, but have driven two 1.6s (in Golf and Jetta flavours), and they were not fast at all - but did feel bulletproof. Pretty much indestructible if kept rust-free.

I like th Golf too, bit like the VW equivalent of my Escort and I thought that was a late model to have a beige/brown interior in 84!

'tis nice that Golf. The 1.8 isn't too bad tbh, in fact a late 1.8 GL, preferably in black would be a pretty decent thing and if looked after nigh on indestructable.

I had a 1984 1.8 Passat, it didn't really feel fast but it would pull strongly upto 90ish, where the 1.6 would run out of steam at around 70. As you say, doesn't really feel fast or exciting but they do alright for covering the ground.High gearing means good economy too, I rarely got less than 40mpg from the Passat taking only the slightest care

I had a 1.6 Carb'ed Golf Mk2 which was fugging rapid... it was the Driver spec so had a half-GTI kit (arches and grille but no spoilers) without the GTI motor but it was still quick enough to be fun.G512MHD, you rocked.

This is making my willy go hard.

Not sure about the chequered roof, but I still would. With the 1301cc engine I reckon it'd go pretty well too.

Argh! Why oh why did people think glass pop-up sunroofs were a good idea? Rare car though.

The 89 Passat I had was this colour, and it's listed as a metallic biege.

I hate glass pop-up roofs with unbridled passion. Really, truly despise the fucking things. I'm even slightly disgruntled about the Volvo having an electric glass roof, the blind is always closed.

I adore the fact that any Mk2 RS2000 with a glass roof is worth about £1500 less than one without. That'll teach 'em.

What is it with old guys and aftermarket accessories?

Has he bolted Lada Riva lights to the back of that too? Cross-shite proliferation...

Certainly glad my Laurel didn't get inflicted with a sunroof, not nice things as you say.

Shame the seller of this couldn't even take the washing down...

WHAT ON EARTH!

'just washed' look, with suds still on the deck, washing on the line (least it wasn't massive beige y-fronts or nora batty control girdles), and the usual 'extra' featured lurking by the gate in one shot.

All you needed to complete the set was to smear vaseline on the camera lens and only get half the car in each shot.

SORT IT OUT REG_BO11OX.

Hey it's better than his first attempt.
