So what is your garage like?

Here's mine:

Just a longer and slightly wider concrete sectional, but it's been insulated and boarded out- apart from the ceiling which is the next job.

The Corolla is the long term resident, so all other work is done on the driveway.

The garage is a mess, too many projects on the go; four cars, house and furniture restoration.

My actual garage is now a bedroom

This is my mancave, it was built before i moved in and was one of the reasons i bought the house. It's as large as you can get without planning permission.

Mind you bigger the garage, the bigger the amount of tat you have!

My garage is full of new shed waiting to be built and the assorted crap that was in the old shed that we tore down.

Currently have this garage at the house.

This lockup which (hopefully) has the Imp in it. Not sure what ever happened to the DAF after we sold it :(

I miss this garage though. Loads of room. If we move, I want something this sort of size.

I have some rented spaces.

Space for six in here

And this one which now has a couple of land rovers, a quad, loads of spares and the maestro in it as well as two P6s belonging to Tam.

I have a bigger farm shed that can take ten cars but I'm going to sack it off as soon as I finish building my new one.

It currently has the omega, land cruiser, one of the trailers and a load of tat in it.

There's a thread about the new one on the open forum. http://autoshite.com/topic/28280-amateur-house-building/?do=findComment&comment=1232674

I moved house three months ago and, for the first time, now have a garage of my very own.

Previous owners didn't use it for cars, so they'd let the bushes grow across the doors.  No problem, thought I.

Arses.

After cutting the shrubs back, this was as far as the doors would open;  the block edging of the drive was partially in front of the doors!  Caused a bit of consternation on the day after moving day as my Beetle was still in a garage that now didn't belong to us.  Still, not a problem that couldn't be solved with a chisel and a big hammer.

^^^ Nice! Are both garages yours or just the one?

Spent the last week sorting out the garage, which has been a dumping ground for the past 15 months since me & the missus moved into the new gaff.

It's LNA ready now*

Wow man, that takes me back...

Yeah I know it's a bit weird (well, I am an Autoshiter who likes Rover 800s after all) but as a kid when we lived in our own house before the fucking bank took it off us, our house had an internal attached garage. I always thought (as a kid, and still do) that a car belongs in a garage like its own comfy little bedroom, I've always hated the idea of leaving a car outside (which, these days I have no choice) our garage was always a bit messy so as a 7-year old or whatever age I was then I got around and tidied the garage so Ma could park her then Mk3 Fiesta in it so it'd be all safe and tucked away from elements at night. Our garage looked like yours hence why it took me back.

My Dad always parked our cars in the garage except his Rover Sterling which was a bit too long. It did once spend the night in the garage (with the door not fully closed) after I "broke" the window switch playing with the electric windows (actually, they were notoriously shit anyway as I later found out when I owned my first Mk1 800) I think his workbench in the garage didn't make it easy for him to park the Rover in there anyway.

Both mine, although the one on the right is deceptively narrow. The internal space is no wider than the doors. A smol car would fit (just), but as there's not much space lengthways that would leave no room for tools, bicycles and all the other miscellaneous junk.

For a short period in the past it's been used as a detached bedsit, so it has good power and lighting, is partly plasterboarded and has fitted carpet on the side where the Beetle is. Luxury!

Currently full to the brim with assorted tat

Its just about possible to get a car in there when its empty but was built in the 60s and clearly designed for 60s cars like minis or Hillman imps. Getting in and out of a modern - even a small hatchback is bloody difficult when parked in there.

Wow man, that takes me back...

I can definitely relate - Despite growing up in a street in which you could easily park at the bottom of your path, I recall my dad always put his car in the garage at the end of the day, even though it was a succession of shitters he owned in the 1980's. (Datsun 110A / Marina / Visa Club/ Mk1 Disastra etc).

My folks have since moved house, and their new garage is too small to routinely fit a modern car in. (I've stashed cars in there over the winter, but had to take all the contents out, park the car, and then put everything back in a Jenga-style fashion.

That looks very inviting, I wonder if I could get my LNA in there 1st!

We could treble the number of LNA's on the road in Ireland if you did!

There's an old workshop right next to our house that used to be a garage so when it came up for rent a couple of years ago me and a couple of mates jumped at it.

It really is true that the bigger the space you have, the more tat you accumulate. I bloody love this place, it really does keep me sane*.

I just sold the Triumph last night but the space was filled 12 hours later with a Suzuki.

I haven't managed to get the doors open yet, previous owners screwed them shut and all my tools are elsewhere.

Once upon a time my garage looked spacious and my 5 looked lost;

House043-1_zps50c69d16.jpg

Now it looks more like this, and I have to move house. I am not looking forward to packing and moving all this, and I don't even know if the new place will have a garage. I am currently blessed with a two car drive, plus long car port, another car-long space in front of the garage and the garage itself. I bet I'll be lucky to have a shed next time.

It is a bit cramped but it does have light, power and is pleasantly warm and dry thanks to being integral to the house. Badly needs a storage shelf though as the lucky bags dotted everywhere take ages to root through when looking for things.

Still sodding tiny. Still full of shite. Now has a pug hidden in it. There is a large pile of wheels at the end that the spotlight bracket touches and just allows the door to close. I want a real garage.
