Just like working windscreen wipers are only needed if you have a windscreen.

They dropped the breathalyser kit requirement didn't they? Still need bulb set, first aid kit, fire extinguisher warning triangle etc and the high vis jacket has to be in the passenger compartment so you can put it on before leaving the vehicle.

 

That's a hi-viz for everyone in the car, but you only need one in the passenger compartment as the user of that is expected to go get the rest for everyone else out of the boot if required.

so 90 and before if theyre not fitted theyre not tested

I am so glad I didn't get involved in this. On the Thursday they flew out I was kicking myself for bottling out of it but the getting pulled by the old bill everyday would of tipped me over the edge. Much respect for the guy's to actually do it and it acts as a warning to the rest of us not to comit to such a silly caper. Hopefully once they are in France the French police will let them be and things will get easier. As fun as the A and B roads are they do get very tiring after a few hours and you just want to get on the motorway and get home.

All part of the experience! I would have loved to do this, and if it had been 8-10 years ago I would have jumped at it. Now with a family, I couldn't devote two weeks to a jolly. That said, if you've "allocated" the time, then a bimble across Europe on minor roads sounds wonderful. After all, one motorway looks much like the next. It's one of the truly miserable bits about business travel. You get to see motorways, airports, offices and equipment sites. And they all look the same the world over.

 

I think the killer here is that it's a Romanian registered car. Were it registered elsewhere I suspect the journey would be far less punctuated with blue flashing lights. Sounds like Serbia might be a good destination for the next extravaganza.
