FoTU 2024 - Completed it, M9

Sent the Cadillac through the car wash, filled the tank and dropped one of these AC Delco cooling system sealing tablets into the reservoir, that's hopefully all the prep work it'll need to get down to Grimsthorpe tomorrow night. I have a feeling that the (hopefully) dodgy oil pressure switch will drive me crazy on the way down, once it thinks the pressure is low it eventually just plays the warning chime over and over. I might have to unplug the driver door speaker...

Just shy of 400 miles in the Toledo yesterday to visit friends just outside that there London. Earplugs make a big difference! Got about 60 miles to go back up north today for the assemblage of the Scottish Triumphs before the show tomorrow. My prep was significantly less than @captain_70sand @MrsJuular consisting of an oil change and not looking at anything else in case I spotted something I didn't have time to fix. A bold strategy that thus far is paying off 😂IMG_20240725_102101532_HDR.jpg.a8e2c6c59b0b8b91a1cae3d5e152dd86.jpg

I’m telling myself a used dirty Granada is more of a show piece than a clean tatty Granada. The perfect logic to avoid washing it tonight.

After the (very reasonable and appropriate) grumblings about the cost increase for this year, I'm marginally surprised at how many people are going.

Last year I went, but everyone completely ignored my car as it was so utterly ordinary and boring that no-one was interested.   Does that mean I fufilled the brief and have won FoTU?

I got directed to the normal car carpark at first last year, apparently a tatty 1994 toyota corolla is too unexceptional to even be recognised as part of the show which I think must be an achievement of some sorts.

I'm personally skipping the show this year in favour of going to Rustival, it was great to experience it last year but with all its shortcomings and double the ticket price I'm not sure it's worth it this time round when there's more alternatives. Local shows seem to have really opened up to anything pre 2000 idea nowdays too, even if the people at the entrance need to triple take to confirm that my car has an L at the start of the reg (guess that's a credit to toyota's designs looking modern?)

My dad bought our tickets so no grumblings from me 👌

I've sort of started my journey, driving to dad's later this afternoon then we're not far away at all. Zero car prep from me, I don't even need fuel (and won't be in the Xsara anyway)

People don't understand pre-01 plates properly any more, I've had people think the Golf is '83 plate'.

You’re right, but a friend am I go and split the cost. Tbh the smith and sniff recording helps me feel less bitter about the price, as we’ve been to one before and it was good. I can understand why people don’t go though, especially with the cost of fuel and such. I take a picnic so as not to have my pants taken down by food vendors, and end up dehydrated when I baulk at the cost of drinks.

If anyone wants to go but hasn't got a ticket I've got 4 spare seats in my car.   Setting off early from Shropshire then heading back early afternoon.

The Cadillac made it to the pub 20mins down from Grimsthorpe, no problems at all surprisingly!

Also in good company now, apparently the place is booked out because of Fotu tomorrow.

Looking forward to seeing the Cadillac @Schaefft.

I'm booked into the modern parking with my Lotus. Last year they decided I should go with the show cars (or misread my ticket) and let me on the field. With the different set-up this year, I don't imagine that will happen.

I think the biggest shame with Fotu usually is that the owners are never around when you wanna have a chat about the car, happy to give you a tour should we get chance! It's a lot more scratched up than comes across in the photos!

aye, there's so much to see people are usually away from the cars most of the day.

That's right. It's not like your stereotypical 'Classic' car show with an elderly couple sat behind their MGB all day. I did manage a decent look at your Corona in 2022, helped that you were pretty much behind me in the queue to get in! Thanks for the offer, we'll see how the day goes.

It is quite nice when you're displaying at a show like Cholmondley where you have a club stand and all gather together as AS.

On the other hand FotU is one of the best shows to wander round as there is row after row of chod in a random order.

On the bright side the AS crowd usually stay to the end and half the other cars have wandered off by 2pm so you can probably shuffle all the AS cars together by mid afternoon.

Not me though as a, I'm taking the modern Focus and b, I'm going early as I have tickets to see Madness.

We're not planning on being there mega early, and I don't know how long dad will last for. It'll be a day of walking a bit then sitting down somewhere

It's a bit last minute but I've had my plans canceled today so could do it, would be happy to buy a ticket!

@Skcat  Ticket is for the car so we can both go in on it.  Whereabouts are you?

I was trying my luck to try and scores ticket to get a car in! Failing that I'm fairly happy to park near by and just walk in! 👍 I'm only around a hour away.

@Skcat My ticket is for an unexceptional car so we could meet outside, dump my Focus somewhere and take yours in so long as you can give me a lift back to it at 2.30 ish?

Not amazing at keeping to any kind of schedule (evedently). Don't want to mess anyone about so will stick to my plan, I appreciate the offer! Might see you there!
