Bulgaria Fest - Task complete

Maybe without the "smashing" end to that journey. That said, I can't imagine the Italian mafia are particularly interested in a Dacia bimbling along, so you should be fine!

Chances of this car passing an MOT are minimal. It has no rear seatbelts or foglight just for starters.

Clearly only two people who know about bringing 1989 Romanian Cars into the U.K., proceed as you were, you both doing just fine.

If the Caribinieri stop you, just remind them that it is a good job you are in a Dacia, cos if you had been in a R W B Mini, their flash Alfa wouldn't have stood a chance.......

My 89 Trabbi had no rear seat belts.

It used to pass the MOT because I removed the back seat before taking it for a test.

What he said...Seat belts are only needed if you have seats.

Just like working windscreen wipers are only needed if you have a windscreen.

They dropped the breathalyser kit requirement didn't they? Still need bulb set, first aid kit, fire extinguisher warning triangle etc and the high vis jacket has to be in the passenger compartment so you can put it on before leaving the vehicle.

That's a hi-viz for everyone in the car, but you only need one in the passenger compartment as the user of that is expected to go get the rest for everyone else out of the boot if required.

Doesn't it need an IVA as a personal import ?

Not within the EU. and not for a car with EU whole vehicle type approval.

On your way past WS12, collect the spare foglight I'll never need.  The Slug's the ideal place for it.

It used to be 6 months to re register

Now cos they changed the rules for the nova thing it's two weeks

PHAKT

Ins on vin when here - reg for nova - then if you get stopped here ( unlikely unless the cops hate beards)

[\doc brown] everything will be fine

I have been enjoying this foreign adventure and have nothing to add of any worth but I can't help thinking you both must be completely knackered. I would want to get home, get in my bed and not drive the bloody thing for at least a week!

Exactly this.

These guys have just about driven an objectively crap car from pretty much as far east as it is possible to get to as far west as its possible to get within the European continent and you all expect him to then straight away drive it from Wales to fuckin Aberdeen and back?

No social media updates for several hours, suggests to me they are trying hard to cross into France before the day is through.

I think it needs an MOT for reg as well as NOVA and insurance.

from ukmot site that lists requirements

'Rear seat belts were compulsory equipment from 1986 and became compulsory for them to be worn in 1991. However, it has never been a legal requirement for cars registered before those dates to be fitted with seat belts.'

so 90 and before if theyre not fitted theyre not tested

foglight is anything post 80 needed as you know

They've had another tug, nearly in france

The joke must be travelling faster than they can.

I am so glad I didn't get involved in this. On the Thursday they flew out I was kicking myself for bottling out of it but the getting pulled by the old bill everyday would of tipped me over the edge. Much respect for the guy's to actually do it and it acts as a warning to the rest of us not to comit to such a silly caper. Hopefully once they are in France the French police will let them be and things will get easier. As fun as the A and B roads are they do get very tiring after a few hours and you just want to get on the motorway and get home.

All part of the experience! I would have loved to do this, and if it had been 8-10 years ago I would have jumped at it. Now with a family, I couldn't devote two weeks to a jolly. That said, if you've "allocated" the time, then a bimble across Europe on minor roads sounds wonderful. After all, one motorway looks much like the next. It's one of the truly miserable bits about business travel. You get to see motorways, airports, offices and equipment sites. And they all look the same the world over.

I think the killer here is that it's a Romanian registered car. Were it registered elsewhere I suspect the journey would be far less punctuated with blue flashing lights. Sounds like Serbia might be a good destination for the next extravaganza.

FFS! So nearly made it through a country without being stopped. 400km into the day and two hours from the border, inevitable.

While waiting for the checks, we washed the car and merrily ignored the men with guns. Oh and I booked us a cosy apartment in Chamonix, which was only half an hour away. Only, it was actually 2.5 hours away! Cue a hasty drive through utterly spectacular scenery. We paid 45 Euros to drive the 11km Mont Blanc tunnel and arrived in a strange land.

Catsinthewelder is informed of the been prices here. Like everywhere else we've been, we don't really fit in.

Pant levels are critical. Cats bought some trendy pants at a market, but I went cheapskate and washes some at the apartment. With washing up liquid. Hmmm, apple fresh.

580km covered today, over 800 to a ferry port. This is just ridiculous.

Liked, not for the pull but for you rocking around smelling like a plate.

Posted

I am seriously bloody impressed with you two.

Have you gone back-to-front and inside-out?  Then - and only then - is it critical.

That car will need parking on a Welsh hilltop for a week with the doors wide open just to air it out!

Compulsory equipment from 1986.

Isn't this fine vehicle 1989?

The 1991 date relates to when they started enforcing the wearing of them when fitted.
