Bulgaria Fest - Task complete

After so initial discussions over beer it looks like this plan may come together.

The concept is to fly out to Bulgaria, buy some suitably decadent eastern bloc cars and meander back through Europe.

The Plus version is to drive the chod to Knockhill and run it at a trackday.

For me I can't really fit it into this year (aka missus says no) but can do it for my 40th next year 2018.

Bucketeer has been helping* by sending me messages of moskvitches at a very reasonable price

I know this is well in advance and probably too far away for most people, but anyone else interested?

Would likely be spring time so that the snow has melted.

Sounds like some yeses then.

Sort of half plan without even thinking things through/checking weather forecasts etc- would be first week in may to coincide with bank holiday.

Do Moskvitches use imperial or metric tools? :-)

Hello, I'm new here but that sounds like a superb idea. At the very least I'd like to meet the convoy coming off the boat/train at Dover/Folkestone.

Weather'll be grand in May. The pleasant middle of -25C winter and +40C summer.

There's the opportunity to have a sort of Euro Shitefest round mine after arrival/purchase and a chance to remedy any faults before the trip back. I have most of a national park to myself so plenty of nature, space, beds, booze and bears.

We could also stage a hillclimb on the 5km or so of track up my mountain.

I can act as translator and perform other such duties, maybe even inspect potential purchases in advance.

If anyone needs any more convincing, how could you turn down the opportunity to own an absolute eyegasm of a motor like this -

How are you with Bulgarian motorbicycles ?

Posted

I quite like the idea of shite roulette.

Those that want to pay an entry fee. This goes into a shite buying pot. Bucketeer buys as many cars as tickets and then we have a draw on the weekend to discover which one we have won.

Whitsun - beginning or end of May?

Can I just cheer you on from the sidelines and try and encourage you to buy something awful?

Not going to offer some Lev's so you can open Comrade Cavcraft for all your Eastern Bloc needs with none of the decadence of a corsa.

All cars come free with Capitalist Cab Cover - the premium* western warranty.

Eastern motoring with Western values. What's not to love.

For anyone interested in this adventure, here is a taste of the rancid old shunters currently available in Bulgaria for less than Marco Van Hairnet's suggested budget of 1000 Leva or about £460. Most of these are well below that limit.

That red bike is ace - looks like someone from the Peoples Ministry of Transport smuggled a very poor photocopy of a Moto Morini Dart or Ducati Paso into an Eastern European agricultural machine co-operative and told them to get on with it.

Crikey, it's going to need a few of us to bring that lot back. But imagine the lotto draw...

I'll definitely be turning up for this, if only to see the proud new owner of the bulldozer setting off to drive it back to Blighty :-D

This is insane.

It's also totally exciting.

I'd so love to be part of it but I know I won't be able to.

Over the top, chaps, give 'em hell for me!
