There's one of those Lonestars in the UK, owned by Neil Yates Recovery who have a liking for obscure Yank stuff. Haven't seen it myself but there's plenty of photos about and it really is a strange looking thing.

I've seen it close up. I may have been  tailgated by it on a 50mph stretch of the M25 whilst I'm Lane one... 😱

This got me looking at their facebook page where they have some really impressive vehicles decked out in all the gear, and then they proudly announce that their convoy van is a brand new ... drumroll ... Chinese LDV Maxus, in plain white.  Nice!

This is unusual -

ZIL-4972 6x6 with steerable rear wheels.

The Russians seem to be able to make 'normal control' lorries with a purposeful look and a certain restrain when it comes to bling. I approve.

Interesting that they are comparing it's size to Cortinas.

Came across this picture that was taken sometime in the 50's somewhere in Norway. And is this truck I am most interested in. Good quality vehicles had a long life here but is amazing when you think about it, This truck when the picture was taken was between 20 and 30 years old and still working. It had then gone through all these years on bad gravel roads probably often overloaded, 5 years of war with minimal maintenance and harsh conditions and is still in use. I find something like this impressive and fascinating and assume it is an American brand.

Also add this picture below which shows what the truck above has had to go through all these years. This is an American Gramm truck struggling through the spring thaw in the late 30's.

It is an Australian Iveco model. ACCO = Australian Constructed Cab Over. It was started by International and taken over by Iveco in the early 90's.

Pretty quiet round here of late but the first day of the new month produced this hen's-teeth rarity. HML suggests about 60 AWDs still on the road and TBH I'm surprised it's that many as you just don't see them anymore and there only seem to be one or two on the show scene.

The USAF were about again a couple of weeks ago. Rather less weird this time with a normal Euro curtainsider but still a big 6x4 unit with Hiab. They seem to have an odd mix of LHD and RHD stuff, which must be interesting for the drivers.

Our council has just converted from plastic rubbish bags to wheelie bins and they've bought brand new ACCOs to empty them.

Kind of nice to see a 40+ year old cab design available brand new - albeit pretty much only as a council utility appliance.

I've drove a couple of 1980's International fire engines a few years back that shared this cab, when they'd substitute our Iveco Eurocargo for various maladies. They were as slow, cumbersome and noisy as you'd imagine but I enjoyed the all metal, brown painted interiors.

I used to live near SHAPE https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supreme_Headquarters_Allied_Powers_Europe in Belgium and it was fascinating to see US Specification lorries- and cars for that matter- being driven around the local area!

That unit is knocking on a bit now, the driver looks a bit pensive with the steering wheel being on the opposite side of what he’s familiar with, not to mention driving on the left.

It’s what looks like uk unit and trailer (man TGA) but still holding yanky doodle number plates. How strange looking!
