Odd bits found;

They look like the arse end of my Dolomite's chassis legs, but with less holes...

Spot weld drills and super thin cutting discs are here.

Proper work starts in a week or so.

Might have gone buying twinkly bits before doing any dirty work;

Those odd bits look like the sort of strengthing trumpet you get behind the front wing joining A pillar to inner wing.  Looks like you're doing surprisingly well for parts on this one, I'd expected you to struggle much more than you are.  Have you put the wheels on yet?

How about now?

Posted

I'm banning myself from fitting the wheels until I've at least welded up the shitty bits.

I am going to have to order the carpet from Austrailia, but with some other parts missing, I am holding fire until I know for sure what I need.

Posted

What about now?  Have you tried them yet?  You could just prop them up next to the car...

Ok, just for @vulgalour here is a sneak peek:

I have found 2 potential parts cars on this continent so things are looking up!

This is going to be ace; I am J. Louse.

Had some old Koto 7" sealed beams a while back, tested them and they both burnt out in seconds so I reckon you're right in going for H7s.

I have posted a pic of this little cutie before but here goes again. I love it.

Don't suppose you need a radio for this? We've just taken one out of the Maxi that was made in the seventies by Clarion and is branded Datsun. No idea if it would be right for your car but it looks pretty good and it does work.

Tim, I'm off back to Chiang Mai in a couple months, where I occasionally see these in the wild, used as dalies...

Scrappies aren't over-run with 1200's but do gizza shout if you need some obscure part seeking out, though estate-specific bits may be a struggle. :)

Well that may well come in handy, would a Clairon spindle mount stereo without Datsun on it be of any interest in exchange? :D

I may well take you up on that, thanks Joe!

What the heck?! That's a new one to me, and yet another 2dr. The supposed rarity of mine is evaporating rapidly......

Been having a bit of a prod underneath RatSun today, as I have bought quite a few parts now, I figured I ought to check there is a car worth attaching them to under all the mess.

The cross member under the front valance needs attention;

Where the front of the floor meets the bulkhead has a seam, which is in a similar condtion both sides. This might be a tricky bit to repair as it takes in several odd shapes.

Fibregash repairs on some of the panels, the front wings being worst, along with this in the door;

Nothing else for it but to have a dig at that wing top to see if there is any metal left there...

Nope.

Also noticed that on the driver's door there are holes where a mirror may once have been mounted, is this a standardised spacing or am I going to have to autojumble it with a tape measure in hand?

I don't think they were fitted with door mirrors as standard, so it could be anything that was on there. Probably some generic accessory or BL parts bin item.

That being the case, I 'd just buy whatever you can find that covers up both holes, even if you have to drill a new one.

Yay, wheels!  That look pretty smart do they.

Shame about the rust.  It's a Datsun so TADTS applies.  Are the front wings bolted or welded onto these normally?  I can see in the photographs that yours are fibreglass-bonded on.

Posted

Luckily they are bolt on items, the only annoyance being the bolts go into the inner wing so if they break, I'll have to drill the remains out.

What I'm thinking is cutting the bulk of the wing off and then I'll be able to get to the backs of the bolts to clean the threads and apply heat where required.

With the wings off, the inner wing repair should be a lot easier.

I might take the NOS ones up to our local tame painter for a quote on having them sprayed.

OH HAI!

Me and Tayne got you some parts today! We hope you like them.

Minor rust, would fly through an MOT with a little bit of welding.

To top it all off, Tayne gave it a wide-arch conversion on the rear.

Thanks for an awesome effort guys, I really do appreciate it!

Did you manage to get the carpet out ok? ;)

I still reckon that one has better paint than mine!

Well most of it at least!

All thanks to @Tayne, @Supernaut and certainly not forgetting who was kind enough to let me know of this tetnus bleb's existence in the first place.

Amazing that one was found in all honesty. Great stuff.

What a belter this will be :)

Nice! I'm particularly impressed you managed to salvage anything off the rotten scrapper!

Good to see at least a few bits will live on though.
