Excellent work, I've been following progress on YouTube!

I suspect I'll have to make a similar structure to keep my doors aligned as my Vauxhall Cresta has similarly decayed A posts...

Good luck!  I found very little in the way of tutorials on YouTube or anywhere else on how to replace door posts, especially not making them from scratch, so it doesn't seem to be a very common activity.   I don't know for sure if this will work until I actually refit the door, but it seems like it should and it hasn't been that difficult really.  And hey, WCPGW?

Did @holbeck ever purchase the silver one?

He did buy it, but I'm not sure whether he still has it.

Hello.

Yes, I  had the Silver one for several years.  Did various bits of work on it, even went to France chasing parts for it, but ultimately it was too much of a project for me.

I advertised it on the Talbot Matra FB page,  and was  inundated with  interest, including from a  colossus of YouTube.

Ultimately this all came to nothing.

Eventually, a guy with collection of Talbot Horizon's made me a decent offer. And I got my garage back. Sadly.

Apologies to Skizz for the thread hijack.

Does that mean I won our world’s slowest race? 😉

(Actually you’re almost certainly the winner in this scenario, come to think of it.)

If it’s the colossus of YouTube that I’m thinking of, I had a similar conversation there too. I gather he’s recently found another that meets his ‘light project’ needs.

I concede the race!

As for YouTube, something like " overdue retard performance" seemed to want me to donate the Rancho to his channel.

And I did want at least some actual money.

My Yugo shall need this job doing on the drivers side also… so it can’t be that uncommon!

Absolutely stellar work… I wish I could weld… but I know no matter how hard I try I would be too slapdash to craft things to that level of excellence!

What tedious gufftraps. This is noble work and the Turbot Mattress Rancid is exactly as rusty as I'd expect it to be.

Great to see the update on here. The calm approach on the YouTube videos gives the impression of anyone can do this especially with the this is how I did it.

Brilliant work and I certainly hope you continue the updates on here as well.

Thanks 😊

I genuinely do think more or less anyone could do this. I’ve only just started really, having only done a few bits of Honda previously.

It’s mostly just hammering, and if you do it wrong then you just hammer some more to make it right.

There are some YouTube channels showing beautiful craftsmanship and for a long time I thought it wasn’t even worth attempting. I remember an episode of Retropower or whatever that said you need 30 years’ experience to use an English wheel.  But that’s so wrong: you really don’t need that level of skill for this kind of work.

That said, you’ve clearly got a skill above the average man. I’ve learned loads from you via WhatsApp and YouTube. I’m looking forward to you reviving a Bugatti type 57c next

Want a cutoff? Just weld it back in
Logistics to get it there might be a problem though.

Fantastic work there Skizzer, definitely far beyond anything I'd be capable of even if I did have the facilities.

Great to see you back @Skizzer👍

Great progress on the Rancho, your fabrication skills are a work of art! Really nicely done.
Im guessing this project is just to warm up for tackling the Granada…🤣

I'll be dragging the Rancho's sorry arse to the Restoration Show at the NEC in about 10 days' time, so if you're at the show then do come along and say hello.  We'll be on the Matra Victims Support Enthusiasts' Club stand.

Have a pic from yesterday, when I started moving things around so I can get the poor car on to a trailer next week.

Otherwise I don't have much of a progress update because there hasn't really been any for the last couple of months, due to health and work getting in the way.  (Sadly the work hasn't generated any income yet, which is worrying.)  Hopefully I'll get more done later this month and in April.

I have always wondered whether the circular air inlets (outlets?) in the C pillar of a Rancho were shared with the Mk1 Polo:

We had the Polo when I was a lad. Always coveted the Rancho (and had the same Matchbox model as everyone else in this thread).
