Here or there????

Shall we stay on this, the older version of board or shall we persevere with the abortion that is the new version??

Having a fuckwit day so far, everywhere is plagued with them.

New server packed up cos someone imaged it incorrectly with a rootfs of only 20gb instead of 100gb giving this error after which it went on strike and needed to be reinstalled.

Just installing cpanel then will be using old version of Ipb

The filesystem “rootfsâ€, which is mounted at “/â€, has reached “critical†status because it is 92.95% full.

Which brings me to second bout of fuckwittery.

Invision support checked out Forum because of all the errors & informed me it was working perfectly.

When i pointed out the vatious bits that were patently not working i was told that it was a server issue & they couldnt help.

So...Old version it is.

We have only lost 20 days posts & i will put new version up somewhere so they can be copied over.

Maybe not today though..

Oh dear.  Bit of a disaster then!

Good to hear we should be back up and running soon.

Hello Dave,

Either old or new forum is fine with me.

This upgrade process has sounded like an absolute pain at every step. (I'm familiar with the scenario where I've tried to help someone out with computer issues and it becomes a complete nightmare).

Thank you for all your efforts.

ALL MODERN FORUMZ ARE SHIT

Highly appropriate that this has become the Laguna 2 of forum upgrades.

Nevertheless, all hard work is appreciated, Dave who isn't Dave.

Only just remembered about the .info version or else I'd be sulking all weekend and wanking myself silly  watching telly.

NO more downtime, my old chap can't take anymore.

I vote for whatever your happy with Mr Dave.

Since you're asking, I like the old one... However, it's your gaff, and the punters will ultimately respect what you decide.

As others have said, all the work in the background, which has clearly been mammoth, is very much appreciated.

Don't shoot the messenger here, but I'm voicing what a couple of members have mentioned along the way; is it not possible to share the workload with a couple of other admins? Maybe it's totally impossible, maybe it's happening already. Just thought I'd say it...

It's up to you obviously but I have to say I felt a warm feeling like coming home after a bad day when I got on here just now. It just works so well. Either way we all appreciate all the hard work.

Last night the new forum was being as buggy as hell, logged me out 3 times, and threads weren't updating on the 'menu' screens either, and every few seconds I got the same flippin notification popping up. Felt like hammering a ZX81 over the server

Posted

Does anyone know why....

Here when you're on mobile you have to switch to full site to either upload a pic or select a page if you've fallen behind with one of the faster moving threads, then when you switch back to mobile theme it goes blue... Why? It's done it for some time now... It didn't do it 'there'.

A random question as it just happened to me!

Doing upgrades like this is a thankless task and very frustrating when they go wrong, especially if the cause is outside your control. I have to deal with things like this in my day job and prefer to keep out of it when I leave the office. Thanks to Dave for all your hard work.

I prefer the old version of the forum. The new one kept sending my web browser annoying notifications which I couldn't stop even when I supposedly switched them off. The skin on the old one looks better to my eyes as well.

That's exactly the same issues I was having too 406, was doing my head in it pinging up every 15 seconds or so, even if I was browsing another site on another tab

It never worked for me so I'd stayed away; coincidentally checked back today and was delighted to be able to see everything

As it is seems fine to me :)

What a complete nightmare this is all becoming.

I'll second that.

This is becoming ridiculous. I think it's now what... 3 times this week the site has gone down?

I've only been here a few months but this website seems to go down more times than my missus. This is becoming daft. I do appreciate your efforts dave but I can't help but think you keep trying to fix what isn't broken... and then it's breaking because of it. Why do we need new themes when this one works?

Secondly why do we keep getting DNS errors... every week? Why do we then keep switching back to .info? Just change your A record for .com to point to the .info server and be done with it man. It's becoming quite grim to see this site offline continually.

This week each time i've tried to visit it has been offline more times than it's been online. While I can understand the odd server hiccup I think this is more than that - it's happened pretty much every week since i've been here.

Another advocate for the old forum here.

Thanks dave.

Old forum for me too, couldn't work the new one at all. I like to think of our web guy as a bloke in a shed with a brown coat, a pencil behind his ear and tape on his glasses. All this new fangled talk is scary.

The old site works far better for me, I can only imagine what a royal pain this changeover has become so whatever is easiest long term get my vote. As someone with no IT skills I can only thank those who do put themselves out.Your efforts are appreciated! :-)

Dave, you're doing a great job at personal expense for little or no reward and all in the name of improving the site and preserving it's future.

I, and very many others here appreciate it.

There are one or two ungrateful cunts however, they are a tiny minority, fuck 'em.
