Straight from the LAPD Website.

Shite ambulance liar drives like a helmet and gets told to not be a helmet any more please.

VIDEO: Watch a careless driver who fitted car with blue lights and sirens to turn his car into an ambulance.

Shaun Scandle, 31, has been handed a fine of more than £1,000 following the incident on September 9.

We were called by staff at the Tyne Tunnel who were concerned at the speed the vehicle was travelling through the rush hour traffic.

Officers made enquiries with the North East Ambulance Service who said they had no record of one of their vehicles being in the area at the time.

An investigation was launched and, following close partnership work between the police, NEAS and tunnel operator TT2 Limited, Scandle was identified as the driver.

Officers visited Scandle and found his white Renault Megane had been covered in livery to make it look like a rapid response vehicle.

They also discovered he ran a business called Hadrian Medical Services offering first aid at events across the North East for which he used the vehicle.

On this occasion he had been providing first aid for the Tour of Britain cycle race and had been travelling to Blyth to attend a medical incident he had been called to.

Scandle, of Priestpopple, Hexham, was summonsed to court for careless driving and last week he changed his plea to guilty to escape a lengthy driving ban.

Now we have released footage of the moment he switched on his sirens to pass through traffic at the tunnel.

He should have got a hundred yours in jail.

How is having a fake emergency response ambulance just 'careless'?

Companies House says the guy's a nightclub owner.  What an utter twat.

Posted

He's just lucky he didn't have an illegally spaced numberplate. That's when they really throw the book at you.

Posted

I remember seeing some twat in a fake ambulance on road wars or something, his was a dismal Mk4 Astravan though and he turned out to be a fantasist, not even a power trip St Johns Ambulance man.

Agree that careless driving seems a bit odd, although a quick google suggests that impersonating an ambulance may not actually be a crime? I thought using blue lights was but maybe careless driving is the highest penalty they could get to stick.

Posted

Criminal damage maybe as he drives into the fucking barrier pole? Maybe you'd have to prove the damage though. Poles from the North East might be too rock and laugh in the face of Megane attacks.

Posted

TBH that looks like the typical standard of driving for round there. Seen worse, etc.

Legend, that's just under 3 mins of footage of a working Megane, record surely

According to Norfolk plod it is an offence:

Blue lights - Under the Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations 1989, it states "except for emergency vehicles it is an offence to fit a blue warning beacon or special warning lamp or device resembling such whether working or not"

so I R DISAPPOINT that they didn't charge the fuckwit with this too, along with anything else they could think of.

At least it was a fake; just imagine if you'd had a medical emergency and a Megane turned up. You'd have to hope the hospital was no more than 500yds away.

Good news sir. The ambulance is here. Bad news sir, it's a Megane and it won't start. We have sent for a Laguna from the next county, and a priest.

They charged him, and let off the MK4 Fiesta in the tunnel that had one brake light not working? There's no justice in the world.

He was from Northumberland.  Thats not even.

Apparently Renault are using the footage to prove that their cars can move and use their electrical equipment at the same time to disprove the theory that ownership of a Renault means one or the other but not both at the same time.

Looking at the fact that it accelerated as well I would venture that it wasn't an automatic.

To be fair the risks taken by the motor cyclists are "impressive"

Strangely, when I was down in Haverfordwest today I saw a liveried up, blue lighted, P Reg. Land Rover Discovery, the spare wheel cover said something about West Wales Emergency Response Ambulance and had a logo not unlike (but not exactly the same as) the St. Johns.

The age and colour (dark blue) did make me wonder if it was completely legit

What a wanker. That said, if that appeared in my rear view mirror I would be inclined to move out of the way. The livery did look pretty realistic.

I have seen lots of private ambulances at events so they can't be illegal,

It said he was on the way to a cycle event accident and if he is a volunteer at such events then good for him.

I don't think private ambulances are allowed to do fast response though as when I've seen them used they take injured to nearest meeting point and swap to the real boys.

He wasn't volunteering, he had a business providing first aid at events. They also said he was on his way to blyth to attend a medical incident, which he seems to be doing by traveling south through the tunnel, away from blyth. So fuck knows what was actually happening.

There's a few of these pretenders near me that are security vehicles, but have liveries and a single roof rack and a pair of Ring xenon lights mounted to it.

I once did it, and was stopped by a policeman on his beat, but I was 4, and had a 'Police' sign made from a cereal box taped to the front of my bicycle. I can't remember if I was charged in court or not, but I think the policeman let me off.

We were doing a job in a small side street one day last week that involved blocking the road with a lorry for 5 minutes.

All the drivers were fine when I explained and turned around and went out the other way.

All except one old bag who gave me a load of abuse and said "This is an emergency vehicle, you shouldn't block my path Rah, Rah Rah. ..."

The emergency vehicle she was driving?

A tatty Volvo C70 with a First Aid Responder sticker on the bonnet.

Dreamer.

I do like the tunnel staff member's look of "WTF" when the Migraine smashes through the barrier.

Attending a migraine in a migraine. Watch his careless driving as any component could fail at anytime!

One of them failed to use his mirrors, but mostly that's just a bit of filtering. For real fear you should see how fast people (not me I hasten to add) do that on the M25
