Crowdfunding and donation - a thought

Having had the raffle thing so abruptly brought to our attention in a previous thread, is it not possible to get people to crowdfund previous work etc. to a car and ask for crowdfunders who have contributed the requisite amount to be entered into a tombola of volunteers to take over custodianship of the vehicle at the end of the crowdfunding period?

It's just a thought - I think it's a bit provocative to turn a username green because they're right.

I love this forum even when I'm pissed off with it for taking up so much of my time, I would hate to see it ruined by red tape. I for one wouldn't object to a raffle if at least £1 of each ticket qent to charity just to keep things above board.

The key is making profit, attempting to get a few quid back from the money pit that has blighted your local neighbouthood for months is exempt I understand.

Skizzer looked into proper 'crowdfunding' for the AS Base Sierra - afaik it attracts tax, unlike Murica.

Just read the OP in that thread about it and then had a bit of googling around, it is all very complex and in some cases it could be not legal if not done right. There is a whole load of legislation on it that I didn't realise.

Remember that even though we need an account to register and be approved to post (for the first 5? posts), everything we say is visible to everyone on the internet browsing. Any jobsworth friendly individual from the gambling commission, etc can come across the forum and start causing trouble if we're not careful. I'd hate for anyone to get in trouble on here for having a bit of innocent fun and getting rid of their shonky motor quickly + easily.

For making sure we're above board, I see different exemptions for them, such as e.g. under £500, not making a profit, etc. So looks like it isn't straight illegal. Just maybe we need something like a thread that the raffle holder can post to (or put in first thread on the raffle), that it's not being held for personal gain? I.e. You've spent more+equal to on the car and it's maintenance than you'll make from the roffle.

I hate red tape, but I don't want anyone here to have their wrists slapped, fined or worse ...

I'm sure this has all been covered in the past before, so I'd be useful to know what was figured out then.

Make raffle posts viewable by members only? Surely what you do amongst friends isn't the same as encouraging gambling amongst the masses?

He's not banned - that's yellow. Green just means he's got to validate his email address.

I haven't a clue what any of you are talking about?

But we don't do raffles, we do Roffles. I've never seen a ticket book involved in a roffle.

And any money sent is for birthdays anyway, don't see anything wrong with that

A seperate section of the forum visible to members only would mitigate some of the concerns....

Who gives a fuck? carry on regardless I say. If someone roffling their car off is committing some sort of crime, its a bollocks crime and can therefore be ignored.

Roffle is the word, stop using the other word as this is a public forum

Sounds like the best plan to me.

I think they get around it because it's a "skill" based game - guessing where the ball is etc

We could have a 'spot the ftp'competition. Would make a laguna entry tricky though...

If any coppers turn up, just "pop a cap in they ass" and forget about it.

They won't, my window got smashed and they could not care less. If they don't care about that i am sure a raffle is not even on there radar.

As long as none of us let slip that we are secretly developing a device that will neutralize all ecus making us kings of teh road we'll be alright.

Maybe they turned up, saw there was no window there and wrote it off as some kind of prank.

Apparently I've got 95 Windows in my study. They can get to fuck if they think they're all getting cleaned.

Do you mean windows 95?

I'm sure if the authorities did investigate they'd conclude that 58 out of 59 participants win, and so there'll be no case to answer.

They would look at an average roffle thread and wonder wtf people were doing, with an equal mix saying thank fuck and damn, and the winnar not quite as excited as they should be.

Then not bother doing anything as no one probably gives a shit.
